It's fun to see people react to that with "I used to respect Colbert" and such. They're clearly not interested in a debate or hearing another side out, etc; they just want to shut down a feminist voice and anyone that enables it is an enemy. It's sad and pathetic. I mean, they are. Anita being on Colbert is goddamn amazing-awesome and I'm looking forward to it.

So the largest paper in print and one of the largest late night television shows have covered bullying / harassment / delivery of threats on the net. All we need is a day-time / morning show and we're set on Goobergate having no recourse for whatever it wants to demand, beyond being criminal in its actions.

Idle Thumbs 182: I Am Suspicious of Myself

That Koko discussion was a total blindside, but in a good way. Now I'm actually concerned about what Koko will find out and how. Edit - Things I'm super curious about now: How far does Koko's desire for knowledge and/or understanding run? If she's presented with a brief or vague piece of information about something changing in her life or around her, how much does she question it? Does she care? Does she know she can ask questions? I've never really learned much about her beyond her being able to communicate via sign language but now I want to know more about the person she is. -
$15k a month to hear hate-driven shit is fucking astounding. But y'know, if Sarah Palin can do it, I guess this douchebag can too.

Man, a lot of NFL games have been ending in spectacular ways today. The Bengals vs. Ravens? Lions vs. Falcons? Vikings vs. Buccaneers? Seahawks vs. Panthers? Amaaaaaazing finishes in all of them, all close games. Watching my Raiders play the Browns, and the Raiders are doing some really goofy shit offensively. Including using their starting QB as a RECEIVER in one play. What the hell. And if anyone here pays very close attention to the NFL, the Raiders got Schaub this season, who was a meme because of how bad he was last year on the Texans. The Raiders attempted a fourth down conversion using him, and he dropped the ball right on the snap and then threw it haphazardly for an interception. SCHAUB.

It's John Riccitiello! The legend continues. Microsoft is already tipping its hand in its plans for Minecraft: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/228606/The_first_inklings_of_what_Microsoft_will_do_with_Minecraft.php The PS4 has outsold the XB1 by about 40% world-wide. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/228599/Report_PlayStation_4_has_outsold_Xbox_One_by_over_40_worldwide.php There's also a blog post saying that bundles may be a bad thing to get involved in. http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/RichardHillWhittall/20141023/228442/Bundles__Approach_with_your_Eyes_Open.php -
To anyone keeping up with this stuff, if you see shit about how Occupy Wall Street "supports" GamerGate, it doesn't; Justine Tunney, one of its supporters (falsely) who hijacked the Twitter feed long, long ago and has since become a crazy nut who believes a servant class should exist in society, is using the account to give the appearance. Everyone knows she runs the account and it's not a secret, but she actually tried to pass it off yesterday as, "Oh good OWS supports GamerGate." And it's like, "You fuck, you literally make those tweets."

Oh okay, now I know why these things have been showing up in my twitter feed. I approve.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

Sounds like I'm getting a Blackberry then! -
He deleted the tweet about it - not because he became aware of it being wrong or because he was getting shamed for it. Because someone reminded him it'd blow the point of hiring a PI to stalk someone if that someone is aware someone is watching them. What a piece of shit.

GamerGate is the Kremlin of video games.

Alright thumbs folks, it's time for me to modernize. Next week probably I'll be getting a smart phone. My first one actually, because I saw it as a gross excess up to this point. I know jack all about the platforms for the most part and have some nit-picky criteria to be met for me to make a decision. - No Apple. I've never been one of those Apple-hating types, but I don't want to be locked down to their platform in this instance. And in case there's cross-platform stuff I might want to do in the future with my Windows based computers, I don't want to run into compatibility issues or whatever. Also I'm an old man and may as well not introduce another platform in my life. - I don't want to actually touch my touch screen. I need a case for the phone that has a secure holster for a stylus. Hands touch gross things and I don't want to smudge the screen. - I'm actually really minimalist and won't need a super-duper horse-power piece of hardware. - Are mini-keyboards a thing on these? As in not part of the touch screen? -
These are basically the students in school who thought that having a good education meant being able to repeat the words you heard / read, rather than actually understanding those words and being able to explain it in your own way. They can't argue for shit, and because of that it often gives the impression of them not arguing in good faith. And then they get frustrated and spout insulting shit, either with vulgarities or trying to take some sort of intellectual high-ground of "I'm not wasting anymore time with you." Ultimately I'm sad that these people have so little going on in their lives, so little involvement in the world around them, that this is the thing they get up to and think they're fighting some massive injustice on. The last eight years were an eye-opener to my mother being a paranoid twit, beyond help at this point, and I see it reflected in these people that I would otherwise get along with because we have a shared interest; playing games.

What the hell is the process for getting a lawyer disbarred? Because the guy already abused his office once already to engage in the harassment of Zoe Quinn, and in the tweet line about him hiring a private detective to stalk her, he mentioned how he has access to more resources to further engage in that harassment. I know the process of disbarment isn't an overnight affair, but I know injunctions can be filed to prevent a lawyer from practicing until it is resolved.

Man I miss hearing Nick on this podcast. When he's jazzed up about something (for better or worse) the vibe he brings is amazing.

Hey guys guess who's the new CEO at Unity? -
I lost internet for a day and a half. I figured I'd catch up on things and... eh, I'll pass up on GG shit because I figure it hasn't changed all that much.

I just saw a tweet that had an amazing point to make about GooberGate. - Anita Sarkeesian is accused of not playing games, either enough or at all, and therefore she's not allowed to have opinions. - Adam Baldwin flat out said he doesn't play (or maybe it was he plays very, very little), but is allowed to brand and be the face for a movement.

NPD data for September is in! So! It's that magical time again where we see numbers meaning things or being twisted to mean things. Software is down year over year, hardware is up. Software performed as predictably as possible; Destiny, Madden, FIFA, and Smash Bros topped the chart (in that order). Though if I remember right, Smash Bros. only has two days of sales data included so the October numbers for it will be better. What's more interesting is what's going on with the hardware numbers (especially when pitted against the software). PS4 sales apparently tripled what they did in August. According to one source, that makes it 550k for the month of September but the source doesn't explicitly say it's sales volume (it could be shipping I suppose). The 3DS lost 40% year of year, but again, Smash Bros and the holidays could turn that around. The Wii U has a near 50% bump over the month of August; not that results in super huge numbers but they could use it (Bayonetta and Smash Bros Prime should help it a lot more). Microsoft numbers don't appear to be available, which is bad news if you're a shareholder I guess (but I mean, popular-reception wise the XB1 is doing at least okay in sales). They do have a PR statement just talking about how the holiday season will be rad, bundles-wise, but that's just fluff talk. Here's the NeoGAF link for links for data and such: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=913741 OH! Almost forgot. PS+ subscribers have nearly doubled since Destiny launched. -
I just want to note that my post about what the guy would say wasn't me actually defending him. I was trying to point out how ridiculous his comments to date have been and will be. (I've had an off day today, maybe I just misunderstood the tone of people's replies to me.)

If I had the guess, the owner would say something about not being responsible for his users, and then gibberish about free speech and "deal with it."

I've had to give up on being a fan of that site a long time ago. And yet the community contained in its forums is so dear to me.

As long as those kind of tools are optional, I wouldn't mind them existing. Though personally speaking, I'm not bothered by that stuff unless the program is somehow invasive / malware-esque in its operation (that stupid Panda thing you're forced to install for a lot of F2P games), or SUPER bloated in resource use (iTunes, Chrome). I can otherwise ignore buttons in my tray next to the clock. -
Ah yes, going back to the well of publishers punishing the press when they don't score the game well. ETHICS!

And then this popped up into my Twitter feed, and again, it's too perfect how Goobergate continually trips over its own feet. https://twitter.com/untimelygamer/status/522568071241019393
