This is the Anonymous that I back fully, when they enact this kind of social justice. Because fuck cowards hiding behind LITERAL masks making threats of violence toward others.
  2. It's bad enough that GamerGate unironically attributes themselves to historical moments but come on Gor! Edit - Tegan is pretty much spot on with the breeding info. And all the info. Pokemon is very much one of those games that has a face presentation and pick-up-ability to the most carefree, casual (ugh) of players. But if you sit down and even just ask of one mechanic, "So how does this REALLY work," yeah, Beppo's Hole. I'm not quite as dedicated to the series myself but I still love it. Pokemon Blue (1st gen), Emerald (special edition of 3rd gen), and Y (6th/most recent gen) have all been the biggest ones for me. I tried played the 4th and 5th gen, but not having people around made it not fun and I quickly sold them back to Gamestop. I think it's a series that you can skip some generations (which are spaced out by a couple / few years each anyway) and just come back to after a long time and be caught up in it again. Staying 100% up to date is going to make it feel like a chore probably.
  3. I lost my shit laughing part way through this episode and woke my poor ol' grandmother up. Whoops.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Please tell me Total Biscuit is a Tory, that would make shit perfect.
  5. Feminism

If they're using the term "SJW" then I can't consider them good.
  6. Feminism

So I'm a bit behind on some of the details but what the hell is "KotakuInAction"?
  7. Ferguson

I really hope it isn't necessary. I also hope the jury decides Mike Brown was murdered in cold blood and that the cop is a fucking jackoff. That's a thing you can be found guilty of right? Being a jackoff?
  8. So in the way of things people in the industry say that are kinda awesome and maybe uncalled for, Sony's (of America) CEO & President said the following: I guess it's earned? Anyway I've been slacking in keeping up with business news. There is an article at Gamasutra about a talk that will be given at GDC, focusing on developing games as a service. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/230342/Development_realities_of_games_as_a_service_revealed_at_GDC.php Which is a freaky thing because the other day I was arguing with people lamenting WoW's connection problems that it's a service they're paying for that will have problems now and again, not a ripoff from the grocery store or something. I said it without thinking about what that implies and looking back I feel kinda gross.
  9. Valkyria Chronicles

Okay wow, so I tried this a bit over the last couple days and I'm impressed, it really is a good port. I forgot to buy a replacement controller so I've been mouse + keyboarding it, which kinda gets goofy when it comes to menu navigating. And the audio mix seems super weird (menu sounds and music are loud and clear, but in-game sounds like speech and gunfire are muted as hell). But other than that it's still good.
  10. Valkyria Chronicles

You monster, these are people, not just names on a sheet!
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

IntelGaming has reversed its pull from Gamasutra, and on top of that, has a tweet (or series of?) where they'll donate x amount of dollars per retweet to Girls Who Code.
  12. I just asked Danielle this via Twitter but want to put it here to drum up support (or scorn): Can we change her Thumbs nickname to Super Mari-endeau?
  13. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It's one thing to consider it important, and another to build your life around it purposefully narrow in scope. Not to say that you are, but I'm saying that's what GamerGate has claimed over and over when it comes to what being a "gamer" is. Only they take it to the "no true Scotsman" level. At most, I'd really ask you to consider the toxicity attached to "gamer," both prior to and after GamerGate. Because even before GamerGate the term had some stigma, but now it's just poisoned to a point of no antidote in the world having an effect on it. Video games have defined my childhood, less my adolescence, but then again in my adulthood. It's very much an important part of who I am and where I've been. But when I'm asked to describe myself, it's hardly the first thing nor only thing I talk about. I prefer to consider myself an enthusiast. It's not a matter of caring what people will think of me because I play video games and discuss them a lot and read about them a lot; it's about the attached issues of being a 'gamer' giving misconceptions of who I am.
  14. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Actually yeah, pretty much that. And I would also say that investment into a medium / pursuit doesn't have to be absolute or expert-knowledge in level. It's fine for people to play just mobile games and say they play video games (because they do and are). A lot of 'arguments' I've seen from GamerGate are about the "gamer" culture being claimed by those who aren't 'gamers,' or that they're ruining video games, etc. And it's like, how is it being ruined? By more diverse products / inclusion? Chris has said in past episode of IT (and this is years ago) that the video games people grew up loving aren't going away as a result of these newere kinds of games existing.
  15. I was going to say the episode banner being Knuckles was a little alarming in a way, but then I saw the image Moosferatu posted and thought, "Welp."
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

This discussion about "gamer" is actually what Leigh Alexander's article was meant to be about. I agree with her that the label is dumb and outdated. I really would rather encourage people to think of themselves as being more than just this one thing. I've tried talking to GGers about it; most don't get what I'm saying, a couple did but didn't agree, and only one said I had a point. This extends beyond just video games though. A lot of subcultures are crap in that people try to identify with just one and go to full extremes, to the point of not wanting to invest time in other pursuits because it will ruin their identity. As far as extreme behavior goes that's akin to the GG shit, the closest example is music, particularly when it comes to metal and punk (whether it be actual punk or modern day 'punk').
  17. Valkyria Chronicles

I'm glad the PC / Steam version is selling well, but it doesn't teach Sega the lesson that Valkyria Chronicles was acclaimed, just that they have another avenue to make money (re-releasing stuff). VC gave me hope that Sega from the early and mid 90s had returned, because it's pretty damn great at every level / aspect of its design and creation imo. But then they put the sequel out on the PSP, and on top of that, changed a lot of the themes and tone. And in part 3 they swung the pendulum back too far in the other direction to try and correct that error. Also, still on the PSP. Edit - Also I just realized I'm working for a living and can buy it so I did. Cheaper than getting another PS3 and seeking out a copy.
  18. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Here's the positive portrayal of nerds: Steve Jobs. Or Felicia Day. Chris Hardwick. Junior Mints. In other words, folks that do shit with themselves, having careers, impacting the world, not basing themselves ENTIRELY on their nerdy enthusiasms, etc. It's funny to me that people on the net call people 'fake nerds' or 'fake gamers' because those individuals aren't talking about just video games 100% of the time; maybe they box, or bar hop, are music enthusiasts, etc. This whole "gamer" identity bullshit is exactly that, and fuck people for willfully limiting themselves and their potential.
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I'd link just the image but the text of the tweet itself helps sell it: https://twitter.com/danthat/status/532570729544683520
  20. Honestly it could be squatting on the trademark so that nobody else can use it. Right now Microsoft is losing the nostalgia and trendy wars in the business.
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I'd been saying GamerGate has been accomplishing one thing (destroying language) but I'm wrong. It has accomplished two things. The second is destroying history and historical references.
  22. Life

They all agree with my view of his work ethic, just not as strongly. I think they're more used to him than I am. Which is fine. Tonight though he got a reaction from me. I arrived and found he was in my department, having been the one working there for the day shift. So when I enter the lab I found that everything was a mess and several pieces of equipment were broken, one of which he broke RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME when I asked for a demonstration of how to do something (since he's not an actual lab employee). I asked him to leave the lab at that point and he refused to go, so I ended up yelling at him in front of customers. Not that I was embarrassed or ashamed of that. He literally cost the company money, and me a bunch of time.
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I'm fascinated by the concept that the internet somehow belongs to one group.
  24. Life

You know how every job has "that one guy"? I discovered that guy really early on with this job I just recently got. Now for the most part, while his antics have disrupted work, in general I've been able to shrug it off. Tonight, he literally sat on the floor, laughing while we were wrapping up one last project before leaving. He refused to help. I was so goddamn livid. I bought a bunch of food on impulse, sushi included, to chill out. It is working.
  25. Forgot to note, there's no deathmatch mode. Though who knows, maybe demand can change that around. For now though it's not part of the game design. Of course, that has people all mad.
