Hanging it up. I'm putting the image on a thumb drive and taking it to work so I can make it into a poster.

Also this happened and just kinda put a punctuation point on the whole thing. I forgot to mention that the Oakland PD is like the LAPD in that they're super trigger-happy.

Today in Oakland a protest blockaded the entrance to the Oakland Police Department. On the net this is represented by the hashtag #shutdownOPD And frankly I approve; I really hope that part of their demand is that Jean Quan steps down as mayor, as she's one of the biggest voices in the country in favor of militarizing the police and allowing the status quo to continue. The OPD needs to be disarmed, along with that.

Wait are you sure that Braid isn't the story of Donnie?

Are you suggesting that Boshi is a contender for the Ultimate Lifeform?

Three months into my new job at this point, one month away from turning 30. It's kinda been messing with my head, reaching this milestone. I'm realizing, surrounded by a lot of younger people at my job (by significant margin), that I need to step up on the responsibility and lead, even if I'm not officially a leader on the job. I've been eating a ton of shit that I used to refuse to put up with, but it seems easier to handle just with the arbitrary decision that I'm older now and should just deal with it. It's a pretty rapid turn-around. So I guess I'm pleased with myself? I've been coaching people to having more balanced work ethics on the job; the people who lack in aggression (not to be mistaken with hostility) are being nudged to have some more and how to do it, and the people who have too much aggression are being coached into taking a breather. And it's working; younger folks actually listening to me. I never speak like an authoritative person (even though I think it in a lot of cases). I think it helps that I'm in that bridging area between young and middle-aged. I dunno. This is how I'm viewing the whole concept of getting older and what it means. I'm sure the next year will have a lot more to it. All I know is I'm ten years out from getting my butt examined annually by a doctor. I hope the tech improves before then.

What in the hell is "Metalgate" and why is there still a brazen lack of respect for history when it comes to naming shit? This better be a Hideo Kojima joke.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

So uh, there's some bad news revolving around Sony. The short of it is that they knew their IT security was shit and they weren't lifting a finger to fix it, nor did they have any plan if things went to hell (the big hack that happened a while ago). http://gizmodo.com/sony-execs-knew-about-extensive-it-flaws-two-months-bef-1670203774 -
I think what I liked best about this episode was finding out how much my childhood had some parallels to Jake, Danielle, and Patrick. Just through all the tangents that sprang up.

GamerGate is funny and shitty in that their statements are hysterical and they have no idea what words in the English language mean, but are shitty when they harass people and generally do shitty things and make the lives of others hard.

Or watching Doug.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the Polytechnique massacre. In 1989 in Montreal, a guy walked onto the campus armed (legally) and declared to a classroom that feminists ruined his life. He murdered all the women in the class and made his way through the school, killing a few more, wounding others, before he killed himself. Some men regard him as a hero, but y'know, they're fucking crazy. Everyone else mourns the loss off the victims:

It wasn't until a friend mentioned GGers sending a friend of hers mutilated dog pictures (what the fuck) that I saw anything about this in like a week or so, it feels. Though the Brad Wardell thing was quickly found too. He's always been kind of a d-bag and is just doubling down on it. I mean, it's one thing that he says something to be an asshole but now he's trying to back out of it. Cowardly assholes are far more annoying.

Jesus jumped up Christ what is wrong with that guy?

I was at work and an English man (like from the UK, now living here) told me the jury's decision. His sentiment was the same as mine; what the fuck, fuck those people, that cop murdered Mike Brown. As for surreal shit going on with this, Also the highway in Oakland is shut down from what I hear because it's flooded with people who are demonstrating / pissed the fuck off. I'm gonna be wearing a badge tomorrow at work declaring my solidarity with them (in well-mannered language of course). Edit - I forget if I mentioned it here, but my step-sister, nephews, and nieces are all black. And it terrifies me that they can be murdered without justice (hell even with justice) just because they're black. I mean goddamn it, it's 2015 almost, fuck this goddamn country's racial culture.

Oh god, and there it is. So I was somehow managing to do okayish in TWOM. I had a couple of beds made so people could rotate sleeping properly, found some books, had a rain water collector. I even had a workshop made so I could make lockpicks and knives. The one thing we were lacking was food. I had found some to last a few days but the place I was going to for supplies didn't have anymore, so I had to go elsewhere. The supermarket should have some. Pavle, you're up. He goes to the store, and at the entrance he looks through to see a soldier who found a woman scavenger. He offered to get her food in exchange for a not so subtle favor request. She declined and he got rough with her. I told Pavle to go beat the soldier's ass. He got a good surprise hit in, but then the soldier deflected every attempt after that, and now my guy is dead.

I just had a chance to poke at This War of Mine. On my first scavaging outing I didn't realize it would bring up a screen of "here's your stuff you can take with you," I thought I was looting already. So I filled the bag, then it put me on the place I was at and I sighed, having wasted the whole night 'cause I can't carry anymore. That sucked. I have a feeling this game is going to stress me out in the same fashion Cart Life did. The more human things are, the more anxious I get about playing and eventually failing.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Henroid replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
It's definitely tied to the Kickstarter. A lot of video game enthusiasts (called "gamers" now I guess) are conservative, so when new shit like crowd-funding or Early Access happen, they flip their shit. -
Don't forget, The Free Young Capitalists are in on this bullshit, and officially declare that you only count as being transgender if you've actually gone through the transition process in full. Also, https://twitter.com/TFYCapitalists/status/536183137962041344

Just some quick beats here, sorry for the lack of links but I've gotta make this quick for IRL stuffs. - Double Fine lost a contract for a game, due to the publisher pulling it unexpectedly, so they had to lay off 12 employees. All the currently-known games are unaffected. - Valve is trying to tighten up its Early Access guidelines due to the (unfair) scrutiny from fans, but also to prevent or better deal with abandoned projects (an actual problem). - Gamestop posted a .7% drop in earnings year over year, resulting in an 11% drop in stock price, demonstrating that the stock market is fucking dumb. -

Are paid-for games also labeled with a "Get" button? That will tell us everything we need to know about the intent of this change. -
GamerGate sadly lives on in World of Warcraft. Every General chat channel eventually gets hijacked by someone talking about feminism being bullshit, etc. I hate being told to leave the channel, because it is otherwise fun and helpful.

In case anyone missed it, Mike Cernovich is doing his thing again, documented on the archive. It should be noted his attitude is "I HAVE NO REGRETS" but deletes tweets like these the moment he starts catching heat for it. https://archive.today/PK0Vh

I see what you did there.
