You know what's funny about that? I can't operate that way. I've spent the last month (especially the last two weeks) trying to arm all my coworkers with the tools they need to defend themselves from bullshit on the job, as well as just bettering their work ethic (though most of them are already excellent with that). I mean, nothing insubordinate, I'm just trying to teach the younger generation (GROSS I AM OLD) that they can stand up for themselves on the job without being out of line or drastic. They don't have to play into the whole "willingness to get fucked in the ass" thing that the American workforce did since the 80s that lead to our current situation. I feel like I'm leaving them behind in a way, and feel terrible about it. Especially since the assistant manager is also leaving, a month after me pretty much, and she's trying to accomplish the same thing I am.

Okay so I wasn't fired. Also, my transfer and raise have been secured. So moving to Vegas is now at 100%. I'm stoked and relieved. The hard part is enduring my boss' insufferable crap for the next three weeks.

My job operates on a clock upon which we enter a code to punch in, out, and to enter lunch breaks. When trying to punch out for the night, which is after midnight, it informed me that my ID is "invalid." I've probably been secretly shitcanned from the job without any warning it was coming, on top of my requiring this employment (a transfer) for the move I have scheduled in exactly one month.
  4. This is bad and you should feel bad. But it's also so likely to happen.
  5. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

It's not an elevator, not necessarily at least. It's like a magic teleportation fountain. The Chozo didn't place a seal to prevent Metroid Prime from coming out. The seal the Chozo placed had to do with the Phazon meteor that crashed on the planet. The Space Pirates already had access to the crater by some means, because there's logs detailing how Metroid Prime was their main experiment on the planet. Stuff about how the project was getting out of control, how Prime was assimilating their tech into its body, etc. So while Samus went to the planet's surface to pursue Ridley, while on site she learns about the pirates' plans to use Phazon in varying ways, least of all Metroid Prime.
  6. Maximum Axiom Verge Urge

The aesthetic has a very Contra looking vibe to it. And this is a Metroidvania style game? That'll be interesting enough.
  7. Today is the day Playstation Home closes down. I bring you this tweet from the internet: "Playstation Home died as it lived, in beta."
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

He might have been under orders or a watchful eye to do so. It's hard to go, "WELL ACTUALLY" in the presence of someone actually there. That's part of what makes TB a frustrating piece of crap; he will gladly behave this way on his own or surrounded by allies, but surrounded by other people he will surrender immediately, temporarily.
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    What the actual fuck.
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Sorry to treat this thread at the GG thread continually but I can't help but bring this kinda shit up. TotalBiscuit apparently made some pretty transphobic statement or joke or something, while ironically getting politics into video games. I haven't found the exact statement yet. But he got GG whipped up into a frenzy of hating on trans people now, and is also saying "character assassination" as his defense for being called out on being transphobic. Edit - Also this is being pointed out. https://twitter.com/stillgray/status/582250293108191232
  11. The Wii U Zelda title has been delayed. Nobody is really surprised I think but I do think it's gonna have an impact on Wii U sales performance.
  12. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

We can call them Metroid Gears.
  13. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

The thing that Zero Mission's stealth portion made evident is that Samus is worthy of titles that aren't limited to platformer action games. Whether in the suit or her jumpsuit or even as an agent for the Galactic Federation, Samus can have a lot of different video game genres that will be legit. All that needs to remain is the consistent theme of exploration and mystery into the unknown. And maybe bring back the characterization of the Space Pirates from Prime 1 because damn that was hot stuff.
  14. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Never underestimate the effort people will go through to generate inorganic force of numbers.
  15. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

The boss fights aren't that interesting. Half of them are "shoot the floaty thing, jump over it to avoid the counter-attack." The game needed more instances of avoiding the SA-X. Either by stealth or just fucking running and being a boss at platforming.
  16. Recently completed video games

Almost forgot, about a month ago I finished this game Castle in the Darkness. Indie game on Steam, sorta has a Metroidvania vibe to it, but is generally just a fun, difficult adventure platformer. There's definitely instances of avoiding instant-death by the pixel in the game, but thankfully that's near the end of the game (I was really worried the game was going to devolve into that nonsense on the long-term). I haven't done the 100% completion task yet, which is... Look I said the game is difficult, but it feels like it is in a legit manner. I just need to take the time to do it.
  17. Cities: Skylines

This is almost a screenshot of Plague, Inc.
  18. Jake with hair on his head is weird, I barely recognize him. Edit - I can't think of any way to say that without it sounding really mean, I'm sorry Jake you're my secret favorite on the podcast.
  19. Blizzard is suing a company that ripped off one of their games, and that company is suing another one claiming the 3rd company stole from the 2nd. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/239626/Blizzard_sues_a_studio_thats_suing_a_studio.php
  20. Cities: Skylines

I didn't go through Dallas often but I remember being overwhelmed by the amount of... well, THAT present in the city. It's surrounded by highway clusterfuck.
  21. Cities: Skylines

Holy mother of god how do people even conceive these ideas?
  22. I do have to admit that hearing about the smoking was the most off-putting thing I've heard on any episode of Idle Thumbs. Not enough to get up in arms about but it felt awkward for some reason.
  23. Okay so this isn't video games really but I did want to share the news with folks: Gen Con LLC, the company that owns and operates Gen Con, is threatening to move the convention from Indiana unless the governor does something about the shitty "religious freedom" bill passed in the state that will allow businesses to Jim Crow it up against same-sex couples. Should be noted that Gen Con is the biggest thing, annually, to come to Indiana, bringing in tons of money. http://www.polygon.com/2015/3/24/8285287/gen-con-threatens-the-governor-it-will-leave-the-state-over-indianas

I appreciate hearing the dumb things about GamerGate because it is a testament to how fast (and thoroughly) information can spread. Whatever charges GG brings up, by comparison, it's easy to dig up info of how they orchestrate or distort things. At this point, when we're a year out from this shit having started, I really doubt you're gonna hear about any notable / established developers of any scale suddenly jumping up to go, "Why yes I support them." Then again, with everything we know about smoking and the shit it causes people still do that. Mark Kern is my favorite to rubberneck / observe because he's being elevated by GG, but his career was literally dormant for a decade, and his most notable work was under the umbrella of Blizzard.
