  1. And the thing is, most video games have that sort of thing going on. Especially when it comes to games promising a lot of hours to completion. I'm hesitant to say it's "okay," but we run into this problem where fans will defend the mundane or unimportant parts of a game's path / structure. As big as MGS5 is, I really doubt the game is 100% built on unique scenarios and breaking revelations throughout. There's gonna be shit to slog through and to expect or perceive otherwise is naive. Edit - Like at least with Mega Man games you're dealing with heavily themed stages. But those games are relatively short. Imagine if a Mega Man game tried to get stretched out to 20+ hours.
  2. This is only vaguely business related, but Jonathan Blow spoke about why he decided on The Witness would be a timed-exclusive in Sony's favor. http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/09/17/jonathan-blow-on-why-the-witness-is-a-sony-console-exclusive In short, it's because Sony was willing to communicate with indie devs about hardware specs and Microsoft was not. In fact Microsoft specifically mentioned they had "no plans" to go into tech specs with indie devs. MS is really, really bad with their indie dev relations sometimes. As an aside The Witness is coming out in January, I think on the PC as well.
  3. Nick is essentially saying that there's artificial filler content in the game that is poorly implemented, to the point that scripts are repeating when they aren't valid or are nonsensical. Or, that's how I'm hearing it.
  4. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Just an update on ME, things were going fine but the performance error came up again all of a sudden. It appears to be random in triggering. So... Fuck. I really want to play this game. I'm into it. The writing behind all the characters is many levels above other video games. There's something to love and something to hate about all of them (Ashley is a necessity to my team being a combat expert, but goddamn it her racism is awful) (also because she goes "technically it's not racism!" NO FUCK YOU ASHLEY JUST SHOOT THINGS).
  5. I loved Jake's "Fuck off" while describing what Mario Maker declares itself to be. Him saying stuff like that is why he's my secret favorite of the hosts. Edit - I feel like this episode is the true return of Nick Breckon when he goes into the stupid shit of MGS5, regarding Quiet. Welcome back Nick, we missed you!
  6. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Okay, it seems - for the time being at least - that I fixed the error. Dunno if it'll last or if it's actually fixed at all. I just did my first non-Citadel content piece. This game is hard as hell, my goodness. My team members' AI is kinda klutzy. Also the Mako is like the worst thing about the game easily. Still, having my fun. Seeing the value of sniper rifles.

Getting awfully close to giving up on Mass Effect. Yeah I haven't played the series yet, but it went on sale one day last week and I got 1 and 2 for real cheap. There's nothing wrong with the game as far as it being a video game goes. It's fun, I'm intrigued by the characters. At worst the storyline is too hyperbolic and eager to be all "SAVE THE GALAXY." Poor Captain Andersen sounds like he has a bad case of PTSD, and some of Shepard's lines sound like she's right there with him. No, my problem with the game is that the PC port has a lot of issues running on a modern system. There's lots of old computer games I play that run just fine on my current machine, but Mass Effect - which isn't that old at all - just has incredible issues. First I had to overcome the problems with getting the game to run as it was crashing on startup. It took installing legacy drivers to get it to work this much, but now I'm running into a problem where the game's performance tanks. It can be after a few minutes, it can be after and hour, but eventually it starts to load slowly, have really bad framerate issues, and even my command inputs need to be repeated before they apply. My patience for fixing computers, for as much as I've known my whole life, has just been dying off rapidly lately and I have a very strong "don't have time for this bullshit" reaction going on. This is easily the worst PC port of a video game since Final Fantasy 7. And yes I know how scathing an insult that is but I stand by it.
  8. Well at least it is someone that has been with the company a long time, kinda helps him to keep it going in the direction it has been. I mean, for the most part. I don't think Nintendo has made all the right moves over the last ten years but whatever.
  9. I was actually confused for a while by clips of MGS5 I've been watching, because the way the camera moves almost feels like it is someone's perspective. And then when I heard about the character creation thing I thought that maybe the camera view is secretly supposed to be the character you made, and it was going to be some bombast reveal. You are the pervert all along. HIDEO

I haven't heard anything about this guy in a while.

That's the same article I read. I'm shocked that the league let's this crap continue. Disrupting communication is kinda messed up. There was another scandal going on regarding the Patriots recording the other team's communications. Defenders of the Patriots say "it's the same thing you see on TV" but the way things read, the Patriots had their own cameras set up to record things. And the TV broadcasts tend to cut away or not include that stuff on purpose. So I dunno. Not the biggest fan of the Patriots at this point. Already wasn't but still. Anyway in other NFL stuffs, most of today's games are done and not a single one of my picks ended up winning. The new QB for the Titans had himself a hell of a game; one of the three times in the NFL's history where a brand new QB throws 4 touchdowns in his opening game, and his overall stats / rating were incredible. That kid can play ball.
  12. Getting away from the TV show theme stuff I nominate Kirby music for the helicopter sequences.
  13. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Holy goddamn shit what. That is the meltdown of all meltdowns.
  14. Bah! Pandering, the both of you!
  15. A friend just linked this to me and it really helps to figure out how ridiculous MGS gets with its... well. Just watch.
  16. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

This game, more than any, has a lot of writing to support the various paths and the player jumping between them at any given point. It's not perfect, far from it, and some of it is clumsily handled, but it's a pretty remarkable feat for a game to have achieved. It shows that it can be done, certainly, but it's a matter of how much effort it takes vs. cost. There's so many different factions and people that influence the ending.
  17. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

    While we're at it,
  18. Also for TV show theme songs, they kinda only work in this regard if they have that jingle feel. Family Matters: Edit - Also Coach:
  19. This just swung by my Twitter desk, RE: MGS5. This isn't plot spoilery necessarily but it's still a scene so I'll tuck it behind a spoiler tag. I promise it's amazing though (it's a parody thing).
  20. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Well, I guess I was rushing to the end of the game without really putting much thought into it. By level 20 I maxed Speech and was nearing maxing a couple other things. And my Companions were NOT insignificant. I kinda just wanted to see where an allegiance with House would lead. His story and missions start out intriguing enough, but by the end they felt like routine errands and the pay-off wasn't as significant as I thought. Turns out it was just a rich business dude being a rich business dude who lured me in with sweet talk about helping "all of mankind." I wanted something more... tangible. Immediate. I did like the way they rolled out the ending, giving you the low-down on every group you encountered. There was a bit of inconsistency here and there, nothing major. I did like that my quick drive-by of the Fiends actually yielded an end-note, without having any associated missions to speak of. But hey, those guys were dicks. I'll end up doing another playthrough soon enough, this time a little more... immersive. I was trying to pull it off for my first-run of the game but in the end my fears regarding learning how things work caused me to take advantage of the game being a program with scripting issues here and there. Definitely gonna side with the NCR. And gotta reconcile when and how to turn on House. I ended up not using my Suite as often as I thought I would. Stored a lot of stuff but ended up not using a ton of it. Hmm.

First NFL game of the season went down, Steelers ended up losing to the Patriots. I'd have regular disappointment, but turns out some crazy shit went down. During the first half of the game, the Steelers' headsets (used to coordinate the team) were getting their frequency bombarded with the Patriots radio broadcast. In the wake of the game the Patriots claim they were having problems too and overplayed their, "Couldn't communicate with Tom Brady" card considering they dominated the first half. Seriously, that team is suspicious as shit at this point.
  22. Pokemon GO

What they haven't announced is that like previous Pokemon generations this will have two versions; Pokemon Go and Pokemon Went.
  23. Square announces it's releasing Final Fantasy 5, one of my favorites and few in the series I like at all, on Steam. YAY! ... Oh it's a port of the iOS port, nevermind. I'll never understand how companies just don't know how to identify which of their works are critically acclaimed. The GBA port (technically a 'remake') of FF5 is the highly regarded version. But it got passed up on somehow.
  24. Pokemon GO

Remember all those times in Pokemon games where you're walking down the road, minding your own business, and them some eight-year-old runs up to you forcing a battle while going, "Bug pokemon are neat!" and then you metaphorically bootstomp that eight-year-old into the ground? Pokemon Go is going to bring that experience to real life. It'll be hilarious and awkward. I can't wait.
  25. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

    Well there is Frost Walrus.
