Diamond Dan... It has SHINIES in it!

Recommended Posts

I got this in one of the many indie bundles over at Steam and the best way to describe this game is... Mr. Drilller with traps?

The goal of Diamond Dan is to reach the bottom of a temple find a map to the next temple and exit through a door on that same level. You only walk on the outside of the temple and that part reminds me a bit of Castellian, except this temple is always square.

The blocks are nearly constantly shifting and in a random pattern too, so if die and you expect that block to crush you, it will probably be another one, but the moving blocks that can crush you are just the beginning of the traps!

There are pit traps that open if you spend too much time on them, crumbling block that fall if you wall over or UNDER them, spike traps, wall traps, flame traps, spear traps....

But Dan isn't defenseless against these traps he can push in any direction, but he has a stamina bar that decreases with each push, so you have to be careful unless you want to end up tired right at the moment a block decides to crush you... You can also play as Ann, who has a pickaxe, the pickaxe also has a stamina bar and can only hit left and right, but it DESTROY BLOCKS, even trap ones if you're quick enough!

The game is VERY QUICK paced, if you stop for a moment you'll probably be crushed or hit by a trap, but sometimes you'll find out that there is no clear path down and you'll have to wait for the blocks to move and hope they form a path instead of crushing you...

What did I forget... Oh, yeah! The DIAMONDS! One of the walls tiles looks like a face and will drop gems, gold or keys, the gems and gold exist only for points and you'll find bigger and better gems in harder levels. The keys open doorways which act as checkpoints and treasure chests, so it's up to you whether you'd rather have money or a checkpoint, although sometimes you'll have more than enough keys for everything!

I don't know why the game is called Diamond Dan if you only collect diamonds on the final level... I guess the alliteration just sounded better?

Anyway, I loved this game and you can get it as part of the Indie Puzzle Pack, which is weird because while using your brain helps, it's more of a quick reflexes game to me?:erm:
