How does someone obtain these games? Do I really have to get a physical copy on eBay?

Idle Forums Game Club 2 - Shadow of the Colossus edition
TurboPubx-16 replied to Sno's topic in Video Gaming
It is no exaggeration for me to say that the original release had the worst frame rate of any console game I've ever played, frequently when the game was trying to pull off its most crucial gameplay moments. It was like someone was showing me a flipbook made out of a stack of sandpaper. Maybe the game only hit a low of ten fps, but when you are inputting control commands everything seems slower, especially when it's the third time you've fallen off a Colossus because the game can't keep up. -

If Shadow of the Colusess was at a low, but consistent frame rate, I think it would have worked out pretty well. But the original release went anywhere from thirty frames (staring at the ground) to four frames (falling off a monster, ten thousand hairs bruseling, dust particles going everywhere). -

I won't be playing through the game again but I hope it's ok for me to throw in my two cents. The horse is the best thing in Shadow of the Colussus (once you figure out how to mount him). He is a horse, not a car. If you constantly give him instructions he will do stupid things. If you gently push him in a direction he will do everything on his own. I remember riding down a narrow path with cliff walls on either side. As the path winded left and right I didn't need to steer him, I just told him to go forward and he steered himself. He has eyes, after all. He knows not to run straight into a wall. Here's a little story about the first time I popped this game in with a group if friends: Just some general comments: -
That picture is so much better sans text.

You should contact the developer; they have been helping people with bugs since release day, even people who admitted to pirating the game.

I don't know if I'll ever beat this game. I want to enter the final mission with a decent group of troops but Squadies are too weak to survive missions at this point. I'm also loosing my Colonels to some pretty ridiculous stuff: I'm twenty hours into the game and an ethereal just showed me a new area of effect attack that wiped out three of my troops. I think I played ten hours of this game without loosing a single dude, now with the highest possible gear my guys are hitting targets less often and getting shot up more easily. One big change from the early game to the late game are snipers: in my early game I had great results with squad sight, but now the levels are designed in such a way that I can never get a sniper in position. I lost both my Colonel snipers and after that none of them have been able to rank up. I wish I could dip the camera down at will to the snipers view point, just to see the twig that the game thinks is blocking his line of sight. Edit: I started using a flying plasma SHIV and that solved all of my problems. I got to the final boss,

People were right when they said the ending would be a kick in the balls.

I am so glad ladders aren't in games anymore.

Anyone else feeling more like themselves after taking a break from Hotline Miami? This game took control of a certain part of my brain for about half a week, and boy was it strange. I found myself struggling with the fact that I was interacting with this thing that I would not dare speak of in real life. This game was a real trip!

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

Are we talking about the Timothy Zahn books? Those are the only extended universe thing I ever got into, and really the only "soft" sci-fi books I've ever read. They were pretty awesome reads when I was twelve years old, can't speak for them now. I do remember being psyched to get my hands on the last two books in that story, but then I couldn't narrow it down which one I was supposed to read first. I chose poorly. Or maybe it was for the best, because I remember that third book wrapping things up very nicely. The premise of the extra two seemed to be pretty dumb: Anyway, back to gaming industry news, there's a new development in the Eurogamer vs MCV thing: http://www.neogaf.co...ad.php?t=498090. The fact of the matter is, publishers don't need to bribe people like Wainwright, she seems to genuinely enjoy writing fluff pieces about video games. -
Steam started the Halloween sale this week. I've decided to take Tanukitsune's advice and get the regretfully named ( )Zombie Shooter 2 for a cool $2.50. I also got Dead Space 2 because that first game was better than alright. That's money that would have been spent outside if going outside was at all reasonable thing to do right now. I mean, today a lady in my city died from DEBRIS. Like, random shit getting picked up by the wind just knocked the life out of her. I am staying inside and playing video games.

Thank you! It looks like one of your post made to the Idle Thumbs Blog (blog.idlethumbs.net).

The next couple days are going to be great for horror games for those of us on the east side of North America. That is, if you're not playing real-life horror. Since there was a thread for this I decided to finally play it. I am grateful that it is short, since I love short games, but also because I did have a lot of fun for ten minutes when I'd like to suggest that people check out Lone Survivor, a similar experience that I think has better writing and just a lot more going on in general.

If you kicked down my door, bounced a brick off my bedroom wall so it hit me in the head, sat on top of me with a raised golf club, and asked me what my favourite song from Hotline Miami was, I think I'd choose that one. His/her name is Sun Araw? I kept reading it as Samus Aran, doh! There's an easy way to get A+ on every level: I used it once and it felt like cheating. It taught me something pretty useful though: executions are key to getting high scores. Alert guys to your presence, get them on their backs, and then get sadistic as possible. I just ran through five chapters and got A+'s on all of them without too much effort. After dying hundreds of times just to get through the game the first time, there's nothing like beating a level on the first attempt and getting a great score too. I love how the guards have a bit of unpredictability to them. Every once and a while a couple of guards will totally deviate from their normal path and what ensues is always hilarious. I also love how the weapons are randomized. It encourages me to be aware of what's at my feet, not be totally focused on the next dude. Quite a few times I've meant to stand over a guy and beat him with a baseball bat, only to realize that I was actually holding a sawn-off shotgun and now the dude is my hostage. I play so quickly that I'll undoubtedly unload both shells into a wall before I've realize what's going on. Finally, after getting all the puzzle pieces and all but two of the masks, I've come to really appreciate all the details in the levels. There are a ton of unique or twice-seen pieces of art in the game. One great example is a room full of stuffed animal heads that drive you crazy if you're looking for masks.

Since they kept talking about I thought it was likely that at least one dude in Crawford It's funny to me how a lot of people (not here especially) are calling episode four weaker than the rest, and yet it still has half-a-dozen incredible moments in it. I never want to touch a shovel again.

Hey all, I'm a music teacher so I thought I'd weigh in. The advice given that cheaper instruments will hinder your growth is true for most people. A bad guitar can give you bad technique, bad ears, and problems with your wrist. I'm about to recommend some inexpensive guitars and trash some other ones, but please keep in mind that in order for me to fairly evaluate a guitar I would have to put my hands on it. Like ThunderPeel says, you really need to put your hands on the guitar you ultimately buy. This is an incredibly important piece of advice for a beginner guitar player, second only to "practice makes perfect." This is because no two guitars are alike, not even two made in the same factory with identical specifications. Any guitar that costs less than $1000 new is made in Asia, and a lot of music shops these days are no longer checking their imports to make sure they're not totally warped from the trip. You can demand a free adjustment but they will probably tell you that they already did it. This is where is it is crucial to bring a friend who can look it over and see if they're lying or not. The Yamaha PAC-10 (also called the Pacfica) and the Peavey Raptor are great guitars for their price. They are easy to adjust and sound great when plugged into a decent amp. Stay away far from anything from First Act and in particular don't get an Epiphone Les Paul II Special. I have a perfectly justified personal vendetta against them due to the problems they have given me. For those interested on getting your guitar to be the best it can be, here's a link to my guitar tech's Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/davey4557. Here's a of him fixing one of my guitars, and here's a of me demoing it afterwards. As you can see, a decent guitar with a great setup makes a ton of noise with almost no effort. On that guitar I just have to touch the strings to get a sound out of it; most cheap guitars require you to press down with effort and that's where finger pain comes from.

I've hit a wall trying to beat my A ranking on chapter three. Higher scores definitely correlate to higher letter grades, but I don't grasp the causal links between the former and the latter. In the moment it seems like executions net a lot more points, but when the level is over I end up with less points then I do when I just run around slashing everybody with a knife. When I get spotted a lot it seems to penalize my letter grade, but being ghost isn't rewarding me the way I expect it to. Killing a guy gets you 400 points when they don't see you, and 600 when they do; shouldn't it be the other way around? I just had a run where I wasn't exposed a single time, threw lots of different weapons and killed everyone on both floors over three combos strings, and I got a B+. I already admitted that I was being silly; if you didn't take my more aggressive comments as sarcastic in nature I guess I'll have to add more emoticons next time.
-
That wasn't the thing I was going to say to get me banned. That was me trying to express how much I disliked that music but also at the same time express how silly it was to be upset about it. But seriously guys, if you think Hotline Miami's filthy beats and pyschedelic synths should be put in the same category as that then I don't know what to say. Unless someone happens to post some more of it after I've played more Hotline Miami. Then I might have a lot really fucking terrible things to say about you cunts.

I'm also missing three-or-so masks but I think I'll just wait for a video guide to find them. Looking for the puzzles pieces already had me spamming right-click so at this point I just want to start attacking the ranking system. The aggression in this game must be rubbing off on me because I am seriously considering getting banned from this forum to tell people how I feel about the music in Awesomenauts and its presence in this thread. Hidden for the easily offended:

The update is here! Flexibility is fixed. Steam achievements are also working for me too, so now it looks like I've beaten the game and only died 22 times . Just collected all of the puzzles pieces and got what I assume is the final ending. It sucked. I honestly wish I never saw it. I am never the person to say something like this, but I would really like an expansion pack with more levels. A few people have suggested that the developers add a random level generator; if they could pull that off I would play this game forever.

Even though I found those sections to be frustrating I really appreciated the change of pace. It helps that after a failure you're right back in the game a la Super Meat Boy. Beat the game (again):
