Dorking out here, not real spoilers, just dorky crap: Regarding the Forget Me Now, you are basically describing the perfect set up with that item and I am incredibly jealous. Fuck you! Good job! Fuck you! I deal with the Guillotine because it is a damage-up. It is awkward and dumb but since it's a damage-up I am forced to take it.

Has anyone seen my D20?

Feel free to ask for tips! And don't feel bad if you have to look at a wiki. I got Guppy, Lord of the Flies, max luck + Triple Tooth Shot (all tears are teeth)-slowing-poison-horror-splash damage tears with big flies today. It started with Cain and Infestation. I usually don't like the items that only proc when you take damage, but combined with the Portable Bloodbank, Portable Slot machine and the Fanny Pack I started to generate unlimited amounts of everything. The game goes nuts once you max out your luck. Picked up the D6 and took it to the Chest, and that's when things got really crazy.

Oh, that video reminds me: if you've been playing for a while bit still haven't unlocked the Cellar, it's probably because you always kill the big guy in Gemini first and the little guy second.
-
Today I got Taurus again, but it activated upon entering every room. That's five seconds of unicorn that starts immediately, per room. Is this a bug? This must be a bug.
-
Bjorn, your tip about the Starter Deck a few pages back has been very useful. Today I got The Knife and hoofed it to the boss rush, where I picked up Taurus. Taurus gives you the Unicorn Horn effect after you've dealt a bit of damage to a room. While you're in Unicorn mode you still hold your knife out. That was easily the fastest ??? fight I've ever had. Also, I used the Credit Card for the first time tonight. I implore people to finish all of the challenges, even though they can be tough and annoying. The items you unlock from completing them are some of the very best.
-
I tried the boss rush for the first time last night. All I really had was the Guillitine and the Knife but the bosses kept dropping red hearts so it was no problem. Of course, I only decided to start Sanic'ing at around sixteen minutes so I sacrificed a lot to make it to the rush and eventually died on the womb. I think I'll enjoy doing more races to Mom's Foot in the future to offset runs like tonight's, where I was at one hour fifteen minutes entering the fight. I was very close to losing because I amassed eleven heart containers. I was Maggie and after seeing just the Headless Baby in the first devil deal I went all holy for almost nothing. The Scapular saved me a couple of times but other than that I just got soul hearts and eternal hearts, which I couldn't use. It was my fault, I see dog food and spoiled milk and I just start shoving it in my mouth before I can think. Bjorn, I think the only way a sane person would ever get True Platinum God would be to use cheat engine. I think I'll probably download a save file or something in the future because I want to play with all of the item unlocks eventually. I've started watching Twitch again (after being pretty sure that I had experienced all of the big reveals for myself) and you'll find people like Bananasauras Rex (the Eggplant run guy) reset over and over until he has a chance to collect the items for a "breaking run," which basically means having the ability to reroll items enough times to see every item. Even after getting to an angel room with over fifty rerolls he still didn't get the last item he needed, Sacred Heart. This is not to mention all of the Isaac Pros who have serious PTSD from trying to beat everything with the Lost. So if what you need to do is use cheat engine to start with Dead Cat, or whatever then by all means go for it. I think it would be a good idea for the developers to add secondary ways to unlock these items, y'know, if I what if I want is to play Rebirth for a couple of hundred hours, but not spend that time resetting to get the only items that will allow me to win.

I use the face buttons when I have tears, and I use the right analog stick when I have a charged attack. I'll switch back and forth for Lil Brim and other special cases like that.

I got through Family Man with Guppy and Ghost Baby. At Depths 1 I had probably the minimum speed a character can have (because of that stupid Yellow hypo needle) and was on the last of my nine lives, figuratively and literally. A few lucky things happened and I pivitod into something relatively powerful for a character with no tears. My mouth isn't gagged, why can't I use Brimstone? And why doesn't flying help at all for the Cursed! challenge? What pain! Just a couple of challenges left to go, Wakka Wakka and Beans!

Blue Baby was good today. I'm sorry Ninja

I'm going to mark this as a super spoiler. I would never want this to be spoiled for me. I'm not even going to tell you the consequences of the actions that are depicted in this screen shot.

I finished that place with Maggie first, and again last night with Lazarus with Quad Knife Guppy. This time

This is why the best mysteries in video games are those that can never be solved, such as, "Is half-breed Priscilla the love child of Princess Gwynevere and Seath the Scaleless?" or "Will Clementine retain her humanity despite the evils of a zombie apocolypse?" or "THE PRESIDENT HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED BY NINJAS. ARE YOU A BAD ENOUGH DUDE TO RESCUE THE PRESIDENT?"

Thanks for posting that Bjorn, I was going to make a similar post but I didn't want to spoiler myself on the whole thing. I'm glad to hear that it was some Fez-level of thing that I'm not interested in doing necessarily. The upside to Ed and Nicalis's disappointment ( ) is that they more or less announced that they are working on an expansion. I'm glad to hear that you're hooked, ariskany_evan. I was thinking about doing a as brief-as-possible guide for the first two floors for new players, here's a go at it:

After 28 hours, which is probably the most I've gamed in a week since I was 12, I reached:

Yeah, I quit this game. Valley spoilers: Somehow the game went from, everything I want to do is supported in this game and the communication is excellent, to, nothing I want to do in this game is supported and I can't tell if that's because of a lack of contingencies in the design or if it's bugs. Yeah, the game lacks a narrative thrust. Or rather, it doesn't thrust hard enough to ever be satisfying (see sexual references earlier in the thread). There comes a point in an RPG where I must care about at least a couple of characters, and if that doesn't happen then I'm done. Who killed Ace? Well, who was Ace anyway? Why should I care? Having to constantly reload the game because every system in the game demands it means I'd never see this game to the finish. Reloading a boss fight multiple times to get a victory with non-disasterous side-effects? Try that for everything. The worst is reloading because you see a dialogue option, decide you'll chose it after another one, oh shit where did that dialogue option go? The game also encourages you to stock up on skill points and only apply them in when you are in need. My characters went from know-nothings to experts in their fields in a matter of clicks, or wait, maybe if I reload the game they could be like this... Having played many games lately that deal with permadeath and other extreme difficulty things very well I can say that this old-school way of doing things is over for me. Here's an example: in Baldur's Gate you would find one-time use spell scrolls and if you passed a skill check then you could write that spell to your book permanently, but if you fail the spell check then the scroll is destroyed. I don't know anyone who wouldn't save scum that shit. There's only one or two Fireball scrolls in the first half the game, are you really going to risk destroying them? Wasteland 2 has a similar thing with gun attachments: you can remove an attachment and put them it on another gun. In my mind every tiny thing I can do to increase my abilities in combat is another tiny bit of a chance that I won't loose a party member and have to reload. The game is already hard right now, for all I know the end-game of Wasteland 2 is fighting Gundams or Aliens or something. So I am going to save scum that shit. And before I know it I'm save scumming everything: someone died; there was a bug; I walked across the map for what turned out to be no reason, faster to reload than walk back; I spent skill points on something that turned out to be useless; an NPC committed suicide-by-raider; a trade for a quest item was a big rip-off; a boss blew up and killed the entire party (this happens a lot!).

Soy Milk is such crap! It is the new Chocolate Milk. Maybe since I've changed to a controller with Rebirth, or because they've rebalanced it, Chocolate Milk is OK for me now. I beat The Purist with Gumpy Brim. This time, for real guys, I actually picked up all of the Guppy items. I forgot the Hair Ball last time, which now counts towards becoming Guppy. I have a theory about the Guppy pieces: Guppy's Tail or The Left Hand?

I think the new music fits the tone very well, and one wailing guitar lick aside I like it. Nothing will beat Danny B's music so it's good that they didn't try to imitate it. The way the game looks matches up with the way the game sounds and that's an important thing to me. I got my first victory in the Cathedral. I was Judas with the Dead Cat and a Knife and the entire time I was begging the game to give me the Paw. I had the Goat's Head but the Devil wasn't dealing cat pieces. I was so happy to find a Paw in a gold chest in the womb. When you keep repeating the name of an item in your head non-stop it feels so good to pick it up . It took a while but I've found some items that I don't like:

Are you serious when you say you have 2000 hours in L4D? Please take screen shot of your Steam . -
Yes! The Book of Belial is incredible, but twice now I've switched it out for Krampus's Head. I just finished a Judas run, slaying Satan on my last heart because of this one fucking room in the womb where there were spikes popping out of the floor and five wallmasters who piece by piece took away all the soul and black hearts I had amassed. My jaw was wide open as I watched a run get away from me because of those fucking wallmasters! Who all respawned every time I failed! My dear controller, you were nearly destroyed today. ;_; Edit: Yes! This is why Rebirth exists. There were so many synergies that were unrealized in the original game because they couldn't update it anymore. But I am saddened that you didn't include a screen shot! Check out all of these knives:

Got Guppy with Brimstone for the first time and beat Satan, unlocking Mom's Knife! I unlocked the first "everything is harder" and everything is definitely harder. For every screenshot I post here of a win there are three or four runs that go nowhere, and I expect that discrepancy to get wider. For example, in the run before this one there were zero keys and every tinted rock I blew up had a gold chest inside . Still no Cathedral for me. Maybe I need to start snubbing devil deals....
-
Keep slaying mom's heart and you'll unlock those floors eventually. If I find an emperor or sun card I always save it for the last floor so I don't have to clear out every room. Tech 1 and 2 were really risky to take in the original game because of how much they degraded your damage. If you can't build your damage back up or get Guppy then they are not suitable past the womb in my opinion, but they are great items for new players just trying to reach mom's heart. My first win on original BoI was Tech 1 and Poly, that's when I fell in love with the game. @undermind09: I hate that poo boss so much.

Idle Thumbs 183: The Anonymouses

Here are some reasons that The Binding of Isaac Rebirth exists, and why I am over the moon . The original game ran in Flash, so it would always run like crap on a lot of people's machines, including mine. Any time there were a lot of things on screen the game would slow down a lot. From the moment I started moving Isaac around in Rebirth with my controller I was in love. I cannot overstate how much better this game feels, it's like comparing Bubsy on Genesis to Super Meat Boy. Okay, maybe that's a bit of an overstatement . Another problem with Flash: they could not compile the game past the last version of Wrath of the Lamb (the original game's last expansion). I mean, they literally could not fit anymore code into the game without breaking everything. That meant no more updates and a lot of unfixed bugs. Now they can add as much as they want, for example, all those synergies that you imagined in your head but were never brought to fruition. And I don't have to exit the game and load it back up every time I start a new run, one example of a thousand things that grated on me about the original game. Levels are generated differently, the item pools have changed, there are more floors and more bosses, etc. As someone who played the original for 100 hours, got all the achievements, unlocked everything, and watched another hundred hours of people playing the game on Twitch, and was still learning new things about the game up until Rebirth was released, I can tell you that the game was figured out. To take a phrase from the RTS world, the meta got boring. Rebirth is like Brood War, it's like those Civ expansions that make you realize how crappy Civ IV and V were on release. It's like Tony Hawk 2. Binding of Isaac has a huge community. On the Wednesday night after Rebirth's release, more people were watching Rebirth on Twitch than they were watching the new Call of Duty game. BoI was this little Flash project made in a few months that somehow turned into a really big deal to a lot of people, and since Wrath of the Lamb this army of people have been screaming for someway for this game to reach its full potential. So that's why it exists . One more thing: if you think the old game looks better than Rebirth then you are fucking crazy . Chris, I feel like you previously said that you never played Wrath of the Lamb, is that right? -
Yep, it's three items to become Guppy, I was just wondering if getting all five had any special benefits. Speed runners go for Guppy because it is fast as hell. The flies' damage is based off your tears damage, so Poly Guppy or Brim Guppy are top tier builds. The flies have a chance to spawn every time you deal damage so a high year rate and followers are ideal. Speed runners are also masters at dodging, so Nine Lives with the Paw is more than enough to finish any run. Edit: I also didn't initially understand why the pros adored Guppy. One day something just clicked and I got it. There's a learning curve to finding the pieces, picking them up in the correct order, which space bar item to keep, how to recover from having just one heart per life. I could yammer on for hours over Guppy. Edit 2: Sorry Bjorn, shty wzrd doesn't work for me. Maybe because we have different things unlocked?
