  1. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

Argh! I've got two of those heavily infested blighted lands right outside my doorstop. I was just going to deal with one of them, but now I'll have to conserve my shaman usage for defense. Ugh. I wish this game had documention in like a wiki or something. Does anyone know what the regular zombie regeneration rate is? I feel like it's crucial to know if the force you send out is going to double your enemy or be outnumbered by the time you arrive.

If you stop them early enough I should be able to catch up to burn 80 percent of them with my shaman unit. That centaur base has to go.

What about the part where at the end of games she stood there in a bikini as a reward?
  4. The Legend of Kyrandia

Hand of Fate is definitely my favorite of the trilogy. Love the fantastic locations, the player character and the sense of humour. There's also less interactive fiction style huge maps that you just wander looking for items to drop.
  5. Cave Story

Cave Story is definitely a great game. In terms of the WiiWare/DsiWare version, there were some issues with the new music that replaced the original chiptunes. I'm not sure if those things have been patched yet, but you can totally choose the original music in the options anyway. It includes an easy and hard mode for extra playability. It's my favorite metroidvania by far.
  6. General Video Game Deals Thread

I'm actually not sure whether the dlc stuff is worth it. I still haven't played my vanilla copy on steam.

I just finished up Bully: Scholarship Edition on the PC. That game is weird. One one hand it does a fairly decent job of creating a idealized high school environment, complete with all the extreme clichés (Greasers? When was the last time that was relevant?). The rockstar formula works really well in a small setting. Things like having to go to your house to save are a lot nicer when it's a short bike ride away, and you don't have to worry about getting killed for accidentally running over a pedestrian. All the classes give you something tangible and rewarding to do in your off-time to give a sense of realism to the world. This is something I felt the phone stuff from GTA4 failed to do. The missions range from high school movie pranks to more extreme stuff like storming a chemical factory or sneaking into an asylum. The stuff on the latter end of the spectrum just comes off as strange, especially in the sense of what a 15 year old kid could accomplish. This is where the other hand falls. A lot of the rest of this game feels like River City Ransom. You basically go around beating up all the thugs over and over again until they fall in line. The combat isn't terrible, but it's a lot less interesting than pulling pranks, having bike races or doing regular kid stuff. I feel like they chose a protagonist (Jimmy Hopkins) that is too mature and missed out on hilariously awkward teen stuff. I do like Jimmy's moral compass, and the way his mission choices sometimes follow it, even though most have the reluctant accomplice feel of most Rockstar leads. The ending goes way too far in the violent direction with a final encounter that feels like it came out of a Batman movie. All in all I liked it, and hope Rockstar decides to do another game with a smaller space like this one, and rely more heavily on their ability to create unique mission types outside of just pummeling everyone in sight.

I don't think I've ever seen this before, but at least now I know what it means. I can give them a quote if they're hurting for one. I'll even highlight the part to remove. "Their dumb acronym doesn't stand for anything."
  9. Giant Bomb GOTYcasts

I've been listening, they're kinda bad on spoilers though. Day two totally spoiled Minerva's Den and all of Shadow Broker (even though I skipped the section where they talk about it at length). It's still really interesting to hear them discuss the highs and lows of these best of show games.
  10. DeathSpank

I gotta say, I love the layout of the controller set up page. It may use the xbox controller buttons, but it places them in a way that it's so easy to set up any dual stick controller with ease. It's something a lot more games should do, especially when they make use of the diamond shape for button layouts in game. Like Assassin's Creed's buttons for the different contextual actions or weapons, for example.

Oh man, just 2 more people and we can start. I'm so stoked to fight these zombies!

I've been playing some Killing Floor, that game is pretty fun, but I guess it'll become different enough once I level up the perks more. I also started a new game plus of Mass Effect that I intend to play chaste, to avoid the inevitable and undeserved cheating backlash from choosing Tali in 2. I'm already enjoying all the different abilities I have to throw around. Anyhoo, I beat Metro 2033. I liked the stealth focused sections, although they did tend to be hard and poorly checkpointed. I did have some great moments where I was sneaking around to throw a knife at the last patrolling guard, only to have it bounce off a mask, helmet or ammo covered arm. It was a nice touch, despite any frustrations it might have caused. Once stealth devolved into combat however, there was a weird system where if you shot at a dude from the dark, he would return fire before you even hit him. This seemed regardless of the type of weapon. The monsters tended to clip through your body when attacking, which was super awkward to try and shoot them. I feel like too much of the game had you accompanied with companions that would do all the work. I didn't see the necessity of the silent protagonist either. My least favorite parts would probably be the Library section and the ending chunk. I ended up killing all the enemies in the library, because navigating was too awkward otherwise. This obviously wasn't the intended strategy so I used up most of my ammo. Then before the ending there is no person to buy ammo off of, so I went in with only a few dirty rounds, and a bunch of military rounds that I was used to saving. I wish someone had just said to use them, because they are useless as currency after the Library. I still enjoyed it though.
  13. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

Well if that's the commitment I'd love to join in a Thumbs Fantasy Zombie romp. My nick is Captain Fish.
  14. Steam Trezer Hunt

Yep, according to valve, days start at 10 am PST/PDT, or about 1 o'clock eastern. Edit: Derp, wait I see it totally says from 12 AM to 11:59 PM, I'm wrong. I guess they just failed to implement it properly, because mine won't activate either. The treasure hunt link isn't even on the front page anymore.
  15. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

What's the time commitment like? Do you need to jump in at all hours of the day, or is one quick log in every day good enough? Your story where you could actually increase your time resource really intrigued me, but I would hate to ruin a co-op game by not being able to act at midnight or whatever.
  16. Video Games, and why I might be done with them

This is a huge bummer. I hope there's some way to make gaming feasible. I don't know anything about epilepsy (excepting David B's graphic novel of the same name), but have you tried changing your gaming set up? I mean things like distance from screen, brightness, room lighting vs screen lighting. Like you said, a lot of things require computer screens, and it's a big shame if there aren't ways to use them that mitigate the chance of a seizure.
  17. V The Elder Scrolls

You won't be playing this game with a sword in your hand! Elder Scrolls: Ride
  18. Bulletstorm Might Be the Next Serious Sam

Story and character video. Prepare yourself for douchiness. It's douchiness you can relate to though. The gameplay is definitely the draw here, but outside of that, it's like they want me to hate it.
  19. Steam Trezer Hunt

I wish the hats for this contest didn't look so dumb. I'll probably never use them, and I have like one random hat.
  20. Mass Effect 3

Your point still stands, but I think it was a bit more than that. HUGE DORK MOMENT According to the Mass Effect Wiki, The collectors got away with a third of the population of Horizon, which was 654,930 people. So at least 200 000 people were captured from that colony alone. Freedom's Progress's population of 912,810 was also entirely abducted. And those are not the only colonies involved. The death count is more on the order of hundreds of thousands. HUGE DORK MOMENT OVER! Ugh, I feel so dirty.
  21. Mass Effect 3

I also thought that having the reapers invade would be the end of it. All those spaceships barely took out one in the first game. I'm wondering if this game will have large gaps of time Fable style, or if it will be set far after 2. Some of the stuff that would effect your reinforcements like the Tuchanka situation, or the Krogan population, or the possible Quarian war don't seem like they're the kind of thing you can show up and just deal with in a couple hours like most quests. Even the time scale for the Reapers to show up from over in Scary Dark Space, without their special Mass Relay, is probably pretty significant.

Just finished up Underworld. I enjoyed it. The character speed is much faster, although some animations are kinda funny. The world employed a more naturalistic design, with lots of discovery to figure out where to go. I got stuck a couple times, but that made solving it that much more enjoyable. I think there are way too many hidden pickups in this game, like 30-50 per level, and even in areas where you're just supposed to ride your motorcycle through. You're constantly having to stop, get off, kick an urn, pick up the thing, and get on your bike. It breaks the flow and makes finding them too commonplace. They should've stuck with the Anniversary model of a few extras with more involved ways to get them. Story is still kinda bad, and although there are emotional moments, none of them have a long term impact. It's more an issue of writing than the character herself though. There was one point in a cutscene I really enjoyed. Minor spoilers I guess. You meet up with a Lara doppleganger (LD) at one point, and Real Lara (RL) attempts to kill her. Everytime RL lines up a shot the game utilises the same red glow, slow down, and video filters as the quicktime events in the previous two games (there are none in Underworld, although there are a few points time slows down and you have to do an in-world action). Then there's a quick cut and LD is dodging and/or countering RL. I had a laugh thinking that from LD's perspective, she is hitting x to not die, while RL plays the role of a hapless NPC. Videos: , Anniversary Example ( ).
  23. Mass Effect 2

Oh, my comment was referring to how I ninja edited out my Mass Effect 3 post. I should've just deleted it... I agree that the game is very RPG lite, especially compared to the first. Don't like the lack of powers, don't like the ammo system, don't like losing ammo and weapon mods. I don't mind the choice stuff that much, but to each his own.
  24. Mass Effect 3

We're just talking about 3 in this thread. I'm not sure how I feel about Earth being a focus. ME has gone from being about the threat of organic genocide, to specifically about hunting down the human race. I guess it might be revenge for what Shepard did, but it does reinforce the "HEERO OF THE UNIVEEERSE!" aspect that is a bit less interesting than the systems of their setting.
  25. Mass Effect 2

    This never happened.
