  1. PbtA games are actually known for being very good Play by Post games on forums and the like. I am involved in one right now on Tavern Keeper. The campaign is too young and my experience of PbtA too limited for me to give a full verdict, but I'm enjoying it so far. Just another option that may work for a community spread across timezones!
  2. World of Warcraft

I actually have been, but on the EU servers. Dunno whether anyone else is playing there.
  3. This video was almost exquisitely engineered to hit me in my week spots - it's effectively the Iron Giant with nature instead of children, and god knows that's a trade I'm always willing to make.
  4. Life

I'm sorry, Mawd, that sounds like a terrible feeling. The anticipation of grief and pain is almost as shitty as the grief and pain itself. Hopefully your mother will continue to be around for a while yet, and if/when the worst happens I hope your boyfriend and his family are there for you. You never know, maybe it will even bring you closer to some of your own family - these things do happen sometimes. Until then, I hope you can find some way to process the feelings so that it doesn't make you ill and interfere with your life. Did you feel better for having that frank conversation with her? Do you think you'd feel better if you continued to get that honesty? Of course she must be trying to protect you from this, but if being left in the dark is actually just increasing your dread perhaps things need to change.

Oh, yeah, I was absolutely not saying not to get tested. Definitely do! Peace of mind is worth it. Presumably you can be tested for free at work? Also, I'm curious, do they vaccinate you against Hep B there? Over here basically anyone working in a healthcare environment gets that one.
  6. Life

Yeah, even with an infected source the rate of transmission is pretty low, in my understanding. And chances are it's not even an infected source you're dealing with. So as much as I know it's hard not to do so, try not to worry about it.
  7. Quadrilateral Cowboy: Dad Baud

Am I just too sensitive to this or did Chris write in "Far Cry" to the trailer script? Game looks great! When I am back home and not only equipped with a tablet I intend to dive in.
  8. I kinda hope they end up making it less angular. It looks a bit too aggressive for my liking. But then again that may just be because my leaning has always been towards the philosophical and diplomatic elements of the shows and not the fights.
  9. The threat of Big Dog

Robot skeleton. What could go wrong?
  10. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I also finished the main storyline today! I definitely felt closer to my adoptive daughter by the end than I had expected to.
  11. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Isle of Mists is a point of no return for some quests but not nearly all. If you've done all the side quests up to around the same level (low-mid 20s) you will probably not fail any of them, but make a manual save before you start it and you should see whether any of them get failed. It definitely does eventually let you back into the open world to keep doing side quests and contracts, and it is not the end of the main quest as I had originally assumed. That said, it is a fairly long chain and you'll probably gain a few levels as you do it, so if you don't want to be overlevelled for all the side content you should probably get all of the stuff up to the mid 20s out of the way anyway.
  12. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Actually having now tried holding start to get to the map on the DualShock 4 and have it not work, I think there's some kind of weird divide here. If you're using a PlayStation controller, you can get quick access to the inventory but not the map, if you're using an Xbox controller you can get quick access to the map but not the inventory. What the what?
  13. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Meanwhile holding back/touchpad takes you straight to your inventory, FYI.
  14. Game of Thrones (TV show)

I'm broadly in agreement with him. The show won't ever be what it was again - as he points out, the first few seasons were the result of being able to cherry pick scenes and plots from a vast, detailed book series that was excellently written and constructed in the first half. It has to change somehow, and the change is either to be like the more recent books, which (again as he points out) are meandering and actually rather boring, or to become something new and gather some energy and momentum again. I'm pleased we're getting the latter, even if it does come with a loss of some of the detail and care the earlier seasons were graced with.
  15. UK Thumbs

I pray Teebs is right about that, but as some of the response comments to them suggest, the EU may not allow the UK that possibility. That said, I also think it's not in the EU's best interests to kick Britain out the door because of the precedent it sets for other countries that have occasionally grumbled about a referendum for themselves. If this week has taught us anything, though, it's that just because it may not be the best idea doesn't mean it won't happen.
  16. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Is it worth doing the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine stuff before finishing the main quest if I haven't done so already, or should I essentially play the content in release order?
  17. General Video Game Deals Thread

Yeah I snapped Doom up because I've been hearing such good things and 40% is a huge discount for something so new.
  18. Life

I probably won't go too heavy into it in this thread (we have a UK politics thread somewhere, right?) but, yeah, now that the results are in I'm honestly pretty worried. I'm starting a Medicine degree in September, and two of the institutions that will be hit hardest by this are universities and the National Health Service. I'm genuinely not sure what the future holds for us. The only silver lining is that since the value of the British Pound has dropped precipitously, now might be the time to pull all my savings out of Germany while the conversion rate is so good. I might finally be able to get the laser eye surgery I've been wanting for a decade.
  19. Given they replaced Patrick with Austin, I'm hopeful that they understand that it benefits them to have that chair filled by someone with chops as a writer who also is interested in aspects of the industry and society at large that the rest of them don't really cover.
  20. Really? That's interesting, because it's totally doable on PC if you're the group leader. When you leave a group there's just a checkbox for "leave as group". Odd that there isn't some kind of UI element for that on console.
  21. Are you playing on a console? On the PC I'm not sure I've ever had it take longer than a minute, and it usually takes less than 30 seconds. For those on consoles, it may improve if and when the PS4 and Xbox One get cross-platform multiplayer. Blizzard has seemed open to this idea, but obviously it requires some cooperation from the manufacturers too.
  22. I suppose I don't really understand quitting in the middle of a game because I'm used to playing LOMAs, in which even if you're having a bad game you have to stick it out for another 20-40 minutes. I'm not saying that's a good thing, and one of the reasons I enjoy Heroes of the Storm is because going down with the ship generally takes 15 minutes rather than 45 (although I do still sometimes play Dota and do that too), but it does definitely make the idea of playing out the last 4 minutes of a bad Overwatch match not seem particularly troubling.
  23. The threat of Big Dog

I don't know, aren't we all a little bit of a boy on the floor?
  24. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Trying to get myself to jump back into this now that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are out, as I've heard good things about both of these. Also I never actually finished the original main quest. It's just hard to get back into a game that you spent 70 hours in a year ago and have now forgotten a lot of the intricacies of!
  25. "Cars sucks." - A Pixar Thread

Cars definitely didn't help, but I think there's a broader force at work here (well, beyond the fact that all voluntary endeavours lose focus after a while). For me at least the earlier Pixar films are what I think of when I think of the company, and as the company and I get older we both see less originality and novelty in the new stuff. A few examples: Brave - In principle I love archery, redheads and mystical Celt lands. So why can't I remember a damn thing about that film? I didn't even know there was a film called the Good Dinosaur until I just looked back at the list of Pixar films. Monsters University - I also saw that, I also can't remember anything about it other than a vague feeling of squandering the worldbuilding of the first. Cars 2 - I don't feel like I need to add anything here. So although we're not all the way into "late game" Pixar yet, seeing it on the horizon saps my enthusiasm to continue.
