  1. Movie/TV recommendations

Can anyone recommend/warn me away from Boston Legal? I've only occasionally heard anything about it, but I am vaguely curious. Is it any different to any other legal drama, what are its strengths and weaknesses, and so on? Any information would be good as finding decent critic reviews of TV series, particularly from a few years ago, is proving difficult.
  2. Books, books, books...

Probably rather obvious/clichéd at the moment, but Watchmen remains possibly the single best comic issue/graphic novel I've seen. Neil Gaiman's the Sandman series is almost certainly the best series I've seen. I refused to read the last volume for several months because I didn't want it to end.
  3. Magicka

I played a little local co-op yesterday with the demo (gamepads work as extra controllers, although I think they take a little more getting used to) and it just made me want the game even more. For those curious, elements are selected by way of the right thumbstick, each of the four main directions contains two elements, and by then shifting to one of the four secondary directions (for example, from right to down-right) you can pick which one you want. I imagine with enough practice this could be fairly smooth, though probably still not as quick as with a keyboard.
  4. The Wire

I somehow ended up trailing off the Wire half way through season four and I've never gotten back into it. I feel like I'm doing myself a disservice by not finishing the series, as there's only one and a half seasons left (though perhaps I should rewatch the first half of season four to really know what's going on) but it's strangely daunting. I actually have the DVD box sets of the seasons just sitting there, taunting me. One day I'll finish the fight.
  5. Magicka

I played the demo, it was pretty fun, but it got quite hectic at times so I can see how using the wrong spell would happen. I did accidentally throw down healing landmines at one point. That said, I'm still not convinced I can actually afford to buy the game. I just wish I could now. So objectively, I'm worse off!
  6. Magicka

I am downloading the demo currently, I have no idea if I'll have the money for the game itself but if there is any multiplayer in the demo I'd be happy to try it with people. Edit: The demo does not have online multiplayer, and it keeps randomly crashing on me.
  7. Internet Comics

    What comic is that, Orvidos?
  8. Portal 2

That's actually exactly what I plan to do, I have a friend of mine who loves Portal but hates thumbsticks. Local co-op without splitscreen or a need for him to learn to use a thumbstick? Yes please.
  9. Portal 2

I've no idea if it's part of a deal between Sony and Valve, but it undoubtedly would have been much harder to do this for the Xbox 360 anyway. I think this is all coming from the fact that the PS3 version of Portal 2 has full Steamworks and so forth and I think Valve gets to control the patching of it. Valve was always complaining that patching their games on the 360 was too difficult and took too long and they weren't allowed to do as much free stuff as they wanted and so on and so on, that's why the 360 versions of TF2, L4D, etc. are all so antiquated compared to the PC versions. So in summary I don't know if Sony had to pay or if they just had to make the smart decision to let Valve have free reign and open technical control, but either way I get the feeling the PS3 sales of Portal 2 just got a substantial bump.
  10. Portal 2

Holy crap. This is basically how I wish every game in the world was sold. When I buy something I want to own it everywhere I possibly can and have it work everywhere it can and with everyone it can. I really hope this goes well and becomes a standard, at the least for Valve games.
  11. Swarm

Honestly one of the things that makes me happiest about it is that I didn't hear anything about it until two days ago, and it's going to be coming out (hopefully) very soon. I find managing the hype I allow myself to feel in regards to upcoming games is what I end up doing most when checking out coverage these days, so not really having to do so is nice. That said I am rather jonesing for this game now, so I'm beginning to get impatient with certification processes.
  12. Nifty browser games (inc. Flash)

That is pretty awesome, Thompson. Though I got to a group phase with pressing numbers in the right orders and you had to wait for the other members to do theirs before it got to your number, and one of our guys was just afk or something so we never got anywhere.
  13. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

Yeah, despite my minor role in this blight I did quite enjoy it. It's cool to be involved in this sort of game with people who actually cooperate. From a roleplay perspective I think I did all right at least, the staunch dwarves sitting in their impenetrable castles, rebuffing all attempts at entry.
  14. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

Haha, that's awesome, thanks. I noticed the reinforcement symbol on that army and was thinking "well I did send some guys to reinforce them but surely it didn't take THAT long..." Since some of you guys are now heading towards my kingdom I feel more secure pushing out in some other directions, I'm moving some forces about now and attacking a couple of places. One of the territories CaptainFish suggested capturing has just vomited forth a large army of undead towards me, so I'm going to let that break against my fortifications while I sneak around behind them with another army to take the now lightly defended enemy territory. Hopefully my defenders don't take too many casualties, they are only squishy fae. By the way I still have a few orange and red coins floating around that I can't really use if anyone wants them. The only colours that are currently useful to me are yellow and purple. Edit: No longer have any reds as I traded them with Captain Fish, many thanks to brkl for extra currency.
  15. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

I feel like I should probably be trying to push out somewhere, but there are just so many zombies several territories deep on every side that I'm too scared to press anywhere in case they just then flow over me. Does anyone have any suggestions (I'm yellow) for which direction it might be sensible to attack in?
  16. Dawn of War 2

Isn't it actually three players? I'm sure I remember doing it and being weirded out by the fact that it was three players because almost nothing is three player co-op. Edit: I just noticed I'm several posts too late to this objection because I totally didn't notice that the thread had gained another page.
  17. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

I'm not certainly exactly how it works with two armies if they arrive at the same time, but yes you can move through other players' territory as long as it's on the no war setting. I think we're on no war setting?
  18. Dawn of War 2

I may be interested in trying it out, but I can't necessarily commit to sticking with it. I've played only a little of both modes, and found Last Stand entertaining because the co-op in that game is entertaining in general. I don't know how much I'd get into competitive, as the only competitive multiplayer RTS I've spent any amount of time with for years has been StarCraft II.
  19. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

I made the mistake of zooming out a bit more than usual and oh man, there are just... so many zombies. I was too frightened to look further so I don't know how things are shaking down in other parts of the map, but around me there is just a sea of broken lands overflowing with undeath.
  20. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

That's... somehow poetic. Though terrifying, of course. I'm still pretty much just trying to reinforce and fortify. I expect most of my fae troops to be pushed back or killed in fairly short order, I'm likely going to end up just relying on my hardy defending dwarves to keep me alive long enough for me to hopefully develop some kind of economy.
  21. Civilization World

I've signed up too, I'll let you guys know if I actually get in.
  22. (IGN.com)

For the sake of accurateness, and because I'm a bit of a Ninja Theory fanboy, it was not Ninja Theory that was involved in Other M, it was Team Ninja. Ninja Theory are the awesome Enslaved/Heavenly Sword dudes, while Team Ninja are Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive.
  23. Neptune's Pride Co-op, Sort Of

I am just SURROUNDED by undead at the moment, I've already had to retreat from one territory and narrowly defend another. I can see where the worrying comes in in this game. I'm building so many fortifications whenever I get the chance that my kingdom will end up looking like a Minecraft server, giant structures linked by skyways to avoid the zombies on the ground.
  24. Games of 2011

As Patters said, there are some microtransactions models that are doing all right. The WoW buy a box and then pay a subscription model does seem like it's a pretty dicey proposition for a lot of games at the moment, many of them do seem to just get swept away beneath the tide of WoW. Then again, you don't have to be as successful as WoW to be profitable, so if some of the games have reasonable budgets they might still get away with it. Publishers chase success, though, so as long as WoW sits there raking in a bazillion dollars every year they will try to do the same, even if they know they don't really have a chance.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

Aha, thanks for giving me the title. It's also cool that the frontman of the band is actually called Eugene.
