  1. Movie/TV recommendations

On Sports Night: loving it just like I used to when I caught an episode or two. Something I didn't remember is that the first season has a laugh track! It was positively sickening in the Pilot, but luckily it is getting quieter and less frequent as the season progresses. Apparently season two does not have one at all. Which brings me to the other thing that sucks; there are only two seasons. Why does Aaron Sorkin keep doing TV shows I really enjoy that are then cancelled after one or two seasons?

Oh I used to see that on occasionally and enjoy it, I don't know why I didn't think of that. It's actually pretty similar to Studio 60, if I remember correctly, which I loved. Also I watched the (long) pilot episode of Eureka. I think this could work, but I'll have to watch some more to see if it's worth continuing.

Burned through Community now. Stuck for something else I can watch in any mood. I have some heavy films and TV episodes sitting around waiting to be watched, but at the moment I'm mostly just wanting comedy or something vaguely light-hearted at least. Too much grimdark in all the other forms of entertainment I enjoy.
  4. We Dare

It's sad that they didn't even try for sexy in the end. The game was already going to be a failure, did it have to be a cowardly failure too?
  5. Books, books, books...

I actually mostly agree with you, so my original post wasn't very well written. I think I'm talking almost exclusively about the Colour of Magic and the Light Fantastic. Their basic concepts are entertaining but I found them very difficult to actually get through and enjoy when I originally read them. Perhaps it would be different now, but I think the books that came after, such as Eric, Mort and Pyramids, were leaps and bounds better.
  6. Books, books, books...

They're all right. Good in terms of game tie-in books, average in terms of sci-fi in general. If you like the universe you'll probably enjoy them but I can't honestly tell you to run out and grab them immediately.
  7. Life

    I... wait, what?
  8. Darkspore

Tried to play the beta yesterday but kept getting network connection failed messages, I'll try again today and see if it'll actually work. Is there any decent possibility for Thumbs multiplayer?
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

The way I've often heard it described is like an inverted bell curve. I don't recall exactly how I felt about it, but this is a popular opinion. Basically the first few seasons (two or three, can't recall exactly) in which Aaron Sorkin was heading up production are considered great, and then after he left there's a dip in the middle few seasons (four and five, I think, possibly three) and then the last couple of seasons they seemed to find their direction again and were strong. Again I don't necessarily remember being that disappointed with the middle, but it could have just been the momentum of watching them in quick succession that carried me through. The early and late seasons are definitely good.

Yes! I know! A year or so ago I rewatched the entirety of the West Wing, and I enjoyed it so much that it went from watching an episode when I was eating or taking a break from work but didn't want to play games to my main source of entertainment. I almost totally stopped playing games because any time I wanted to relax I'd just watch more of the West Wing. Edit: I also felt similarly about another Aaron Sorkin show, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. But I understand that many people don't, and if you start watching it you have to prepare in advance for the fact that there's only one season.
  11. Crysis 2: Oh Shit.

Great, works for me. I'm happy if I'm "tricked" into thinking something looks good, and I have no interested in doing anything BUT run past when it comes to random boxes. As much as I am still a major PC gamer, I really hate this side of it.
  12. Shogun 2: Total War

I started out with the Shimazu, the other easy starting game clan. They're actually very good for the tactic Squid is going for, early samurai-heavy armies. They get cheap samurai katana units more or less instantly if you research the right stuff.

Sacrifice is one of my favourite games ever.
  14. GIRP, from the creator of QWOP

    Infuriating.
  15. GDC 11 Panels available for free now

There are Supernatural books? Are they any good?
  16. V The Elder Scrolls

Sweet, you should record and upload sometime.
  17. My First Indie Game

Sounds cool to me, let us know when it's out!
  18. Shogun 2: Total War

Loving the posts, I used to write and read battle reports for tabletop wargaming (specifically Warhammer and 40k) and this reminds me of how much I enjoyed seeing people's stories play out. Like Nappi, it's also made me excited about Shogun 2, and I'm seriously considering trying to get it, despite its somewhat lacklustre performance on my machine. The desire is mainly due to the fact that I really, really want to do a cooperative campaign with some Thumbs. Co-op campaign multiplayer is something I've always wanted from Total War.
  19. Happy Birthday!

    Woo, OssK! Congrats!
  20. Dreams!

Actually despite being what you might call a "skeptic" myself, I've had a couple of dreams before now that have come up with details of real life that I would only learn later. I don't know how or why that's happened, and that doesn't particularly bother me. There's so much stuff we don't understand about the brain yet that I'm not going to worry over this rare and minor unexplainable phenomenon.
  21. Swarm

Almost all of what I know of Swarm, an upcoming XBLA and PSN game, comes from this Giant Bomb Quick Look. I am a sucker for animation, AI and physics in games, and this game seems to be almost nothing BUT those three things with a charming and funny (though slightly sadistic) theme. I can't wait for this to show up, and since it's apparently in certification already I really hope Microsoft and Sony get a move on. You can also check out the official site but it doesn't seem to have much more info.
  22. Swarm

Swarm is out on XBLA and PSN now! It may or may not be out on both in all regions, but if it's not it should be soon. Cool story; I bought the game on XBLA, loaded it up, was half way through the first level, my 360 red ringed! I've since been using the "towel trick" to try to play bits and pieces of it, but I might actually just start shouting for money back from Microsoft. I'm pissed off enough now that this, my fifth or possibly even sixth 360 to red ring, is the last straw. I foresee a fight over repairs, XBLA refunds, etc. in my future. I'm sure it's a story they've heard a million times, but eh, this is bullshit and everyone knows it.
  23. Dragon Age II

That's a shame. I've been thinking all the way through how different things could possibly be with other decisions, and have actually been making choices in such a way that I should have at least one other main path to follow. It'd be really disappointing to discover that the story will end up retreading mostly the same ground no matter what.
  24. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

I definitely recommend finishing the main story of AC2 before playing AC:B as AC:B literally picks up exactly where AC2 left off.
  25. Frozen Synapse

Still sort of keeping an eye on this. Still really don't have any money. Still curious as to whether anyone is playing it after a decent length of time?
