  1. Prince of Persia 3: The Clunky Ass

I think Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is actually set in between the Sands of Time and Warrior Within, so you could always play that next instead of WW. You will have to play it eventually, though.
  2. Idle Trenched

I'm not sure it's even available on the UK marketplace yet, it's been nearly a week now and I still haven't seen it show up on the website.

For those of you talking about the Wild Hunt, I decided to watch it myself the other day with some friends. I actually found it more interesting than I thought I would. From the brief "horror with LARPers" description I chose to pick up, I expect much more of a slasher film in the woods. The truth was actually somewhat more troubling. The realism with which the characters and their actions were portrayed actually made the climax much more disturbing to me than if it had been just a bunch of nutters in a forest killing each other. The fact that not many people were actually seriously hurt and that they were all hurt in pretty believable ways - the escalation of small problems and opposed personalities - made it much more affecting for me. Admittedly I had other reasons to be particularly sensitive to the possibilities in the film at the time, but nevertheless I think it's a film that does quite a lot with not very much. Edit: I just realised that I heard about the Wild Hunt from other people, so disregard the "for those of you talking about..." line. It is an indie film from Canada and I'd be very interested in hearing opinions from some Idle Thumbs about it, since it was surprisingly powerful for me.
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, for reference I adore Firefly. So things that have western elements in can absolutely be enjoyed by me (I also enjoyed Red Dead Redemption, although not always for the same reasons as others I think), but if Deadwood is just a good western, then it might not be for me. It's the difficult to define difference between something that is a good example of its genre, and something that is good and happens to be within a genre.

Is anyone willing to offer a prediction as to whether I'll enjoy Deadwood, despite not being a fan of westerns in general? It's not just that the setting doesn't do anything for me, it actually acts as a (pretty mild) turn off. Nevertheless, I keep hearing Deadwood is worth watching. Any opinions?
  6. Iron Brigade

I'm seriously considering buying it with some of the money I don't have once it finally hits Europe. Do we have a Trenched posse ready for some multiplayer at all?
  7. Project Zomboid

I had a similar problem when I tried to put out my flaming wife with a pillow. Luckily I burned to death soon after so I didn't have to live with the guilt.
  8. Life

That might be one of the best insults I've ever heard, whether it was intended that way or not.
  9. Iron Brigade

I was just coming in to ask if anyone knew if it wasn't on XBLA in EU for a specific reason. Is it actually delayed or has it just not shown up yet?
  10. E3 2K11

It doesn't seem like "Great job, Jeremy!" is going anywhere any time soon.
  11. A question about programming languages (sort of)

Yes. But Visual Studio Express only contains certain modules, such as C++ and C#, so it may not be right if he wants to go down the Java-based path. That said, C# does actually borrow some ideas from Java and it's (relative to some older languages) fairly easily learned.
  12. Wherein half-remembered games are identified

Raff's Acorn game reminds me of my own lost Acorn educational game memory. It was just identified on the computer as "Romans" and unsurprisingly involved the ancient Roman empire. You would have to complete various minigames regarding things that happened in Roman life, for example I remember one of them was performing the traditional ablutions in the correct order - putting oil on the body and scraping it off with a special Roman scraping thing, and so on.
  13. Eric Chahi's Project Dust

As far as I know it's download only.
  14. Child of Eden

I haven't played it but I've watched a couple of people play it using the Kinect. It's definitely an audio-visual treat, I could imagine that if you put a small child in front of it while someone else played it they'd be mesmerised. The gameplay seems well suited to the Kinect if you want to just want to enjoy the experience, but not if you really want to go for the high score. Since unlocking later levels requires you to go for the high score, it is sadly probably not a game that is realistically playable for the average Kinect user beyond the first few levels. It makes for kind of a bizarre civil war between how this game has been positioned by Microsoft and what the developers actually probably wanted it to be.
  15. Tabletop RPGs

I've signed up for the site, this is my profile there: http://www.pbpmap.com/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=5370 I don't know if you need that to send me the map link or if you're going to do it through here, but either way should work. My character is up on Obsidian Portal, though I may update it somewhere else if I have to change things often and get sick of its (slightly irritating) system. I have everything for my character set up to start a prologue, I think.
  16. Eric Chahi's Project Dust

It annoys me that the two games in Summer of Arcade that I'm interested in, Bastion and From Dust, are the last two on the list to be released. Even though I might not even get these games on the 360, they probably won't be released before then on any other platforms.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

I'm most of the way through season two of the Sopranos myself right now, and I've been enjoying it more than I thought I would. Not every episode is amazing, but taken as a whole it's surprisingly funny and insightful. I've heard it loses a bit of the bizarre humanity that makes it so charming later on, but for now I'm happy with it. As for the Wire... I got half way through season four and then stopped watching for a reason I can no longer remember, and for a while now I've been considering either trying to finish, or restarting season four, or restarting the entire series. I'm still not sure what I should do.
  18. Tabletop RPGs

Invisible Castle and Orokos are the most regularly used dice rollers for PBP games that I've seen. I understand Myth-Weavers has a dice rolling system, but I've never used it so can't comment.
  19. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

I haven't played the full version, but I've played the demo and it was rather disappointing. Five years ago this game could have come out and been acceptable, given its history. At this point, it's not retro enough to be particularly nostalgically enjoyable, but it's retro enough that the UI, gameplay conceits, graphics and humour are all irritating. I'm glad that it's finally out so we can put this thing to rest, but I don't really want to play it for any great length of time. From a business standpoint, I don't think 2K and Gearbox will take a loss, but I am fairly sure that the project considered as a whole will (I don't see how it couldn't at this point). They may or may not get away with making a sequel, but it sure isn't an impressive revival of a strong franchise by any means.
  20. E3 2K11

I think we should use the Steam chat room more often. I may start dropping in occasionally to see if someone's there, particularly while E3 is still going on and there's still news every day.
  21. E3 2K11

    5PM our time.
  22. The Witcher

The 1.1 and 1.2 patches have actually fixed a lot of stuff already, and more are coming.
  23. The Witcher 2

The game menu now loads at a markedly accelerated pace. A number of game balance fixes have been introduced in the Prologue. Lock on targets is not lost when the distance to targets increases. A number of fixes have been made in blocking functionality during combat. Also, player character responsiveness in combat has been improved, and Geralt can attack more than one target during normal combat. All these. Important. No resolution ratio fix though!
  24. Life

Have you tried looking for some sort of support phone number? It may help you much more than using web forms. Not everyone has live chat functionality but most companies do have some kind of number you can call and things often move quicker that way.
  25. Game of Thrones (TV show)

It's good. The script is very faithful to the book, and the performances do it justice. A particular favourite of mine is Tyrion, who I loved in the books and is as good or better in the series. The child actors are all surprisingly decent as well. As for Viserys, in the series he isn't portrayed as being especially complicated. Fairly standard power-grabbing jealous brother, for the most part. There are one or two instances in which a bit of the insecurity due to the vast lineage he is supposedly meant to be returning to glory show through, but not much more. I don't recall whether the book went into more detail or not, it's been a while. The acting is good, though, there were never times I felt like the character wasn't coming off right.
