  1. Recently completed video games

Finished the main campaign of Dawn of War 2 today. I started playing a day or two ago and got completely hooked. The game's is really good. I much prefer having to micro-manage a couple of squads, giving them different traits/abilities and gear, as opposed the base-building etc in normal RTS games. Last Stand mode is really awesome as well, although I'm finding it tough to get that far with random groups so far. Hopefully have the Chaos Rising expansion done in the next day or two as well.
  2. Grand Thumb Auto reunion?

Yesterday was the first time I'd played GTA in months. As you could probably tell, I'd forgotten the controls...
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

Richard Ayoade brought back Dean Learner for 'Man to Man with Dean Learner' which was a comedy chat show. Plus both Ayoade and Matthew Holness appeared/were involved in Armando Iannucci's 'Time Trumpet', which I loved although it's based on British politics/tv/celebrity culture so not sure how well it'd go down to any non-Brits. UjhBf4vlTw0 I love this clip!

  5. Books, books, books...

The "twist" in the film isn't really the twist in the book, and the two stories differ. The book has sections occuring in a comtemporary setting involving descendants of both Angier and Borden, whilst the story of the two magicians is told through diaries. Angiers trick is revealed about halfway through the book although you don't learn the true extend of things until the very end (more than is revealed in the film). Personally, I'd still recommend reading it but can understand your reservations having already seen the film. Other books by him I'd recommend are The Extremes or The Affirmation, although I'd probably lean slightly more towards The Extremes.
  6. Books, books, books...

If you're going down the Sci-Fi route, I'd recommend anything by Christopher Priest. I've loved everything I've read by the guy so far, but The Prestige is a definite favourite. As with most things, it's much better than the film adaptation.

  8. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Definitely check out a track called 'Die Slow' by the same group then, if you've not already. The albums worth a listen to but a bit more obscure, and 2 tracks off their first album were remixed/sampled for tracks on Crystal Castles first album. Speaking of which: KC7deDfftqs One of the best DFA 1979 tracks.

Does anyone else think Richard Hammond is completely different since his car accident/coma/brain damage stuff? I realise this is a slightly dumb question... Prior to the accident I used to quite like the guy. Since the accident however, I can't stand him and am unable to watch anything that he presents. The only Top Gear presenter I don't mind is James May, but that's down to the other tv shows he's done rather than Top Gear.
  11. Real ID on Blizzard Forums

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/10543100.stm - BBC News article regarding it. I personally don't really like that idea and it'd stop me from posting on the forums. I'm a bit paranoid though and hate to knowingly post my name on the internet. I know a few girl gamers that don't like the move either as it means they'll get highlighted as being girls should they post anything, and could ultimately lead to trouble for them. At the end of the day, it all just depends on what level of anonymity you feel appropriate for forums etc. Blizzard do seem to be heading down the Facebook route with it though which causes me some concern.

I hear that the Twilight series of books are a really great read too...

  14. Summer Steam Sale

I bought: Bioshock 2 Trine Far Cry 2 Thief: Deadly Shadows The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom Borderlands Freedom Force / Freedom Force vs The Third Reich Civ 3: Complete Pack (I've never played Civ so didn't want to pay more for Civ 4 incase I hate the game) THQ Complete Pack -- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, Full Spectrum Warrior, Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers, Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Immortal Throne, Company of Heroes, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Gold Edition, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Dark Crusade, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Winter Assault, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Soulstorm, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Saints Row 2, Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War® II, Red Faction: Guerrilla , Red Faction, Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor, Red Faction II, Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War® II – Chaos Rising™, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Ownership Check, World of Zoo, Metro 2033. I almost bought a few other things but I doubt I'll have the time to play everything listed above so more games was a back idea really.
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

Last weeks episode (street countdown) was the first I'd seen of The IT Crowd in ages (possibly since season 1/early season 2). I'd seen the advert for it (which made me smile) so decided to give it a watch. I quickly regretted that decision though. The episode struck me as desperately wanting to be funny rather than actually being funny. I couldn't watch the whole episode in the end. It's a shame really as I like the cast (esp Matt Berry) and there's been some truly hilarious episodes - the only one I can remember is the one where they go the theatre and Roy has to pretend to be disabled whilst Moss end up as an usher. As for Black Books, Graham Lineham only wrote the first series and you can tell. Series 2 & 3 just went downhill. I still rate Bill Bailey throughout the whole run though. Finally - Garth Marenghi's Darkplace Don't know if it's been mentioned on here before but it's awesome. It used to be available online on 4oD but no clue if it still is.
  16. Life

Even though you've already answered yourself - yeh, it's Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid, Cracker, many other things) and Eric Idle (Monty Python etc).

  18. Recently completed video games

Just finished the main game of P.B. Winterbottom. That game was awesome! I loved the look and sound of it and couldn't stop playing. Really glad I finally picked it up in the Steam sale.
  19. Summer Steam Sale

I literally just bought it. I'd been meaning to buy it for ages and am really looking forward to playing it. I also picked up Thief: Deadly Shadows as it's cheap. I've not played any of the Thief games since the demo of the original one though. I'm hoping it's not rubbish?
  20. Buying or building a PC

I'd agree with Toblix about Silverstone cases. I went with the Temjin TJ07 when I built my current PC a few years back and I doubt I'll change the case for a long time. There's a ridiculous amount of space to work with and tons of ventilation. The cases are made to a high quality and don't have any nasty plastic bits.
  21. Summer Steam Sale

This Steam sale is just too good! I only went on there to pre-order SoMI2:SE but ended up buying the THQ pack, Trine, Far Cry 2, and Bioshock 2. Yet more games to add to my ever-growing backlog.
  22. New people: Read this, say hi.

How do! Thought I'd finally post and say "Hi". I've been listening to the podcast and lurking on here for a while. I got back into gaming relatively recently but am doing my best to make up for things now. I thought it might be worth signing up to actually join in some discussions etc.
