  1. The threat of Big Dog

Watching the stilts one, it's hard to believe that I'm not looking at a 3D model in a video project, but an actual robot with arms and legs, balancing and adjusting itself. I wanna say this spider-bot above is "animated really well". I guess, in a sense, it is.
  2. R.I.P. Ryan Davis

Well I'm pretty sure they also riffed about Ryan actually dying on Ryan's last episode, which I guess would be especially weird on a second listen. It was of course about an arcade machine tipping over onto him, and was pretty funny at the time. There's a new podcast today. I don't wanna listen in on these guys right after their best friend died, because that's kind of ugly, but they must want people to download it, right? It feels strange to me that there actually is a podcast and that I'm GETTING CONTENT still. I'm gonna fuckin download it anyway. I'm gonna continue using GiantBomb at some point, right? I'm sure that's their intention.
  3. R.I.P. Ryan Davis

I second the This Year Collection. It totally reminded me of some bonkers Hotspot sagas, like the Gizmondo scandal, and also got me into This American Life with a great compilation. and that breast milk was certified.
  4. R.I.P. Ryan Davis

Well it's like Rorie and Dave both said, he's a big jerk who's a nice guy. Ryan had mentioned times when he'd play the mean cantankerous boss to interns or fans for laffs, then feel incredibly guilty and apologize cos he's really a big ol' baby.
  5. R.I.P. Ryan Davis

This is just insane, I was definitely in denial at first. I've listened to every Bombcast and I'm on GiantBomb all the damn time; it completely changes everything that Ryan isn't only not on the site any more, but not out there for anyone. To think that those guys onscreen don't have Ryan Davis, even when they go home at the end of the day, and especially that everyone has to deal with all this head-on and be a personality again, I just can't imagine it. You guys can't listen to the last bombcast, I don't even think I could watch JEFF right now! I feel like I even remember when Ryan first got engaged, and I just can't believe this is the end. Dave's text was quite stirring.
  6. Life

My new life in Hilversum is going extremely well, I'm riding bicycles everywhere and ordering sandwiches in extremely awkward, broken up Dutch. I used to work from home and stay inside, but now I go to work every day and go to all sorts of meet-ups, and do touristy exploring. My new friends like going to things every other day because they're foreigners aswel. So that's much better than my bored, shut-in old friends. Chatting to random people is a hundred times easier because: A) I am the most eloquent speaker in the room as everyone else is from all corners of Europe. and Moving to a new country gives you a bottomless pit of none-specific things to talk about. also C) Most people here already know what a computer game is. When someone's English, they magnetically gravitate towards you for the rest of the night without thinking, so this is fucking easy. I went to the barbers, neither of us knew what the hell the other was saying, and I got most of my hair shaved off. Which isn't even that bad cos I look pretty good and now everyone assumes I'm German or Russian. These are just more funny stories for me to USE on people. Now I'm dying for this good-luck fumbling around to fall into place like a rom-com scenario where I bump into Jennifer Aniston for the first time in 10 years and we hook up. I could go into much more boring detail about the passed month, but the gist is that it''s been generally positive.
  7. Luigi's Mustache Competition: A personal request

This link is broken, but way to go advising your girlfriend to enter a mustache competition.
  8. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Watching the doc later is totally fine. I don't bother looking up movie trailers or reviews any more just cos movies usually spend the first 20-30 minutes setting up the characters and intent of the world much better than some guy on Youtube will. Everything's usually better when you don't know what you're in for. By that same token though, watching the documentary is especially exciting because I don't know how the game's gonna come out. We don't know the ending to this story yet! THAT experience would be diluted after the game's already done. Watching the scenes where they come up with the name and character design will be totally different after you've played the game, cos you'll already know where those conversations end up. I'm not even super into adventure games, so I'm definitely watching the doc first. EDIT- Watching the episode now, I'm so glad to see that the people in Double Fine are split on whether or not to chop the game in half. That's totally something you never see, but it feels like it happens all the time, so this scene is perfect. I did wanna see the conversation about whether or not they should do a 2nd kickstarter, but this is fine. And so unbelievably perfect that his mechanic said "It's hard to know where to stop on a project like yours."
  9. The Inventor of the Mouse Passed Away

Yeah that was a really good read, the last part is a really good note to end on and take away. Seeing a 60's video conference is already mega cool, so in the context of pioneer design it's even more interesting.
  10. I laughed my ass off at the ten seconds where I thought "Steve's wedding story" was about to be "I switched the rings with a copy of Far Cry 2." EDIT- Oh I guess you guys got there eventually.
  11. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Personally, as a person playing, I don't care I'll just play it later. I'm mostly here for the documentary anyway (not watched this one yet) It's a shame that the story of DoubleFine circumventing publishers, and kickstarting a huge new way of making games like this is such a fuckin rocky road though. If this is a test-case, or a poster-child or a yard-stick of this style of business then I guess the result aint all fun in the sun, and it'll probably be right back to publisher-or-no-game soon*. It must be tense for the people there, cos of course they know that all eyes are on them on this one. Fun trivia: I did this exact thing with my Kickstarter in 2011. I released the game, then updated it with about the same amount of content a couple months later. Ya gotta do it. Also fun trivia, when I said I wanted to avoid a second kickstarter to raise funds, I ALSO landed on Steam Early Access and that's where the current project's going. *for this size of team
  12. Plug your shit

, and here's a build. Left-click to shoot, right-click to eject/hijack. You can hijack rockets and mines too. Space-bar drops rockets for one guy and mines for another guy. For the last guy it toggles his jetpack to fly around with. I guess dropping smoke, and my sick attempts at level design, are switched off for this build :I You can get together and land on friendly jets if you want, but I did say the network code was busted and dumb.
  13. Plug your shit

The latest version of the game is way more exciting than the last thing I have on Youtube, and has some real level design in, jets that feel faster and ejector-seats that feel crazier, choosing classes, riding piggyback on other guys, hijacking missiles in mid-air, dropping smoke clouds and proximity mines and pulling all kinds of mid-air theft. All the awesome features are in, I'm just missing good network code and art. But we don't have anyone with those skills, and we don't have a comfortable time-budget or money-budget to get the game up. It's easily the #1 project I've wanted to work on for the passed year, but y'know... I can't complain that we have to do SpeedRunners first, cos that's a cool game aswel. On this topic I was so fucking pissed when I watched the TitanFall trailer and he ejected up out of the mech and landed on someone else. but yo I bet they don't have a class that transforms into a giant beast and leaps around eating other players to regain health. YOUR MOVE, RESPAWN. EDIT- I seriously have to stop myself from just listing everything in this game top-to-bottom.
  14. I wrote something

That metaphor is to relate an exciting piece of news to a bounty of nutrition that is relied upon to last the season.
  15. Plug your shit

you can... just put your name in... Should I MAKE UP some beta keys? offer code Wizard? Really cool, that 2-hour scene is bad-ass.
  16. Plug your shit

This was my marketing strategy all along.
  17. Plug your shit

    tinybuild.com/SpeedRunners !
  18. Plug your shit

Controller support yes, two guys on local VS two guys online: yes. All 4 guys on local: yep This game is not coded by me, so actually functions very well. and I know you guys are gonna be wondering whether or not I'm allowed to say "Coming To Steam". This game has been around for a while, and people at Steam have seen it in another incarnation on XBLIG and at promotional shows. They've supported it being on Steam since before Greenlight existed, and we're signed up to release actually pretty soon, in some form. Yeah I'm as surprised as you are.
  19. Plug your shit

I can break up this shit today with some of my own shit: A NEW GAME ANNOUNCED, BY US, TODAY! Here's the trailer if you just wanna watch (which I also animated!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=r-1qEEKpTGg I'll cut out the marketing for you guys: It's like Mario Kart but it's a platformer. Y'know those Contra levels where you can scroll your co-op friend offscreen by getting ahead too fast? It's competetive that, with a bunch of nutty twists like slide-tackling people and hook-shotting people. This game was designed by DoubleDutch Games (did I mention I moved to NL?) and I'm here to re-do the art and animation, n kick some life and identity into the brand (see high-fiving animation), which is then marketed and published by us as a company (tinyBuild.com) I like this trailer animation, and the art in the game is COMIN' ALONG! If all goes well I'll be back in this thread with a multiplayer sneaking game I jammed out in Unity by the end o the week! What could it be!??? --Oh also I didn't have final edit on this trailer. I just want that on the record, because I'm a dick.
  20. Mirror's Edge 2. I'm not even fucking joking.

Like swinging swapped out for just jumping over stuff?
  21. Life

This thread will go down in history as the founding of "Idle Games". Who surprisingly make their money by outsourcing Bejewelled clones.
  22. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

I just got to watch the Microsoft thing. Saw the new Metal Gear and holy heck! Don't know what it is about this year, but I am totally amped to play all the new games!
  23. Fez 2

HOW is Phil Fish going straight into a Fez 2?? and WHY?? and WHAT COULD THIS GAME BE??? I am bamboozled and the most interested. This trailer is very cool.
  24. It's not the years, Indie, it's the mileage

"Man Im burnt out on all this retro, throwback, lo-fi, nostalgia-grab, recycled boys-club, in-joke livin in the past! Now let me tell you about these NINTENDO guys..." Come on, buddy! You can't downplay HOHOKUM and then commend Nintendo for being "Unashamedly colourful and positive", that's just bonkers.
  25. PL4YST4TION 4

I've been saying forever that they should set another Final Fantasy game in grimey industrial bumfuck, so seeing that, and seeing Destiny lookin good, unexpectedly pulled me in. Also I didn't own a PS3, so lets finally play MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, Infamous, Journey, Pixeljunk Shooter etc.
