Roger Ebert rehashes old debate even indie hipsters are tired of

Because if a relatively new medium cannot exceed what some argue is the the pinnacle of American fiction, it is completely invalid? This really is increasingly becoming a generational flame war. -
Ah that's a shame, I had this whole pretend fiction in my head based on a series I never played. That'll show me!

I've got a lore question about this: in the original games is there an original "x-com" organization already sort of in place at the start, be they shadowy, mysterious, inactive, whatever? If so, and this turns out to be sort of a first contact story, maybe getting into the formation of a shadow agency sort of thing, I think that could be pretty rad. If not, carry on.

If the entire comic was like this, it would indeed be inexcusable rubbish. I think what saves it is that he actually gets the girl 20 pages in, and spends the rest of the comic fighting dudes to keep her for no rational reason given. Like I said, I think its primary sin is willful incoherence, but it has its cute moments.

I am cooking up a big pot of chili while you dudes touch me in my ears and laughing to myself like a crazy person. Dang I missed your casts. -
It's not so much I hate Michael Cera as that he's really overexposed when compared to his lack of diversity in roles. No, I save most of my hate for Jonah Hill.

If Cera plays it right (so slightly different from his normal self) this may be the first thing I can tolerate him in since Arrested Development. Maybe. There needs to be lots of stupidity and punching, and less bumbling preciousness.

It's a bad example (can't think of any specifics right now), but I'd put a lot of the radio ads in the GTA games in the same category. It was just to the side of reality in a hilarious way, particularly in contrast to the more serious main quest. Well, more serious aside from the character of Brucie, who was just all around ridiculous. Oh yeah, and weren't there jetpacks in San Andreas? I never really played it.

I kind of like that they dipped into the whole "weird west" thing a bit now and then, without making it a part of the main storyline. Typical Rockstar style, I guess.

I've always wanted to play a game like this ever since I saw Pirate Baby Cabana Battle Street Fight, it's nice to see Paul Robertson finally taking art for a game in his own weird direction. Music done by Anamanaguchi is just an added bonus! I recently borrowed the comics from a friend to see what the fuss was about and found them... a little bit annoying. They have style, and fun little nerd references, but a lot of the time it felt like I was reading every other page of another more coherent comic. Just a bit... schizophrenic. I'm really hoping the gameplay stands up to the art and music in this game though.

There is a bit of story mission doldrums in the middle/latter part of the game, but if you've bought the game I'd suggest powering through. Going on the main line through the story missions doesn't seem to take that long, and I personally enjoyed the last few missions quite a bit. The last few missions have a sort of climax --> extended denouement -->resolution feel to them that I don't recall seeing in video games very often, if ever. Just remember that it ain't over until you see the credits roll.
