  1. Zeus, from what you're saying, it's that the sound is supposed to be coming from in front of you but it's actually being heard as if it's behind you (and vice versa)?

But sounds that are supposed to be on the left or right are playing in the correct ear, yes?

  2. I've not checked since yesterday but consensus was that Hitman Absolution met the minimum requirements and Life Is Strange - Episode 1 was a good shout for one of the others. Gets people into the season. Kane & Lynch Collection might be there because there's one less set of Steam keys promised than there are games? Iunno. Should probably have searched again before posting but hey.

  3. Everybody should grab Anachronox. It's Tom Hall's Psychonauts. It's a marvel in story telling and game design. The main gameplay element is jRPGy, so boring turn based fights. But there is so much gold in this game. It's a shame that the 2nd half has not been created yet.

For some reason Steam thinks Anachronox is unavailable in my region, so I can't see the "friends who want" / "friends who own" information, though I see people on my Activity Feed buying new copies. Perhaps we could have some sort of game club and play through it more-or-less at the same time. Old timers and newcomers alike. Is that an achievable or even desirable aspiration?

  4. 2K's policy of sale-pricing Borderlands [Number] GOTY at less than Borderlands [N] Season Pass is an aggravation - especially as the Season Pass doesn't contain all the bits and bobs that'll be poured into the GOTY package. It's taught me not to buy Borderlands [New & Shiny] before it's available as a GOTY package, heavily discounted, on sale.

What's the advantage? Is it just being able to inflate the number of copies of Borderlands [N] as price-sensitive fans will more likely buy the GOTY package, or is there more to it than that?

That was a wonderful interview, by the way, Ben. Thanks!

  5. Hmm. In my mind, Rezzed is still held in Brighton, and I think "Maybe I should move to Brighton", when of course it is held in London now.

But maybe I should move to Brighton. Or wherever the new Brighton is.

  6. Someone should take advantage of the combination Hover ad/200th episode to buy a bunch of terrible Thumbs redirect pages.

I recommend something in a .ninja, .juegos, .motorcycles, .graphics, .blackfriday, or .cancerresearch.

I am really surprised that rancheros.juegos hasn't already been swiped... Is pod #200 a good time to establish a new round of entirely fictionalised inter-site beefs?

Anyway, congrats Thumbs. You did good. The crew did good.

  7. How's it working out for people? Going by the Steam user reviews, it's either still the best game ever after 90 minutes of play, or it's a half built remaster that's in beta when it really shouldn't be.

    edit - oh, crossposting

  8. As I've said ad nauseum on here over the years, I was raised one and it took five years to unfuck what their cult did to me

I don't think I've read everything you have written on the matter, but thanks to you, because in that moment it really helped to bolster the real, lived experience of people who have left in the face of claims that it's easy to walk away at any time.

Some years ago I was in more or less daily contact with someone who'd not long got out. I think they'd went with the "party" coping strategy, at the same time making the most of any educational opportunity available. Fair play, really. It's hard to come to grips with the bravery of people who do leave.

That was my experience in leaving, and the experience of so many I've known who've tried the same. The best thing you can do is support those friends who've left.

    Thanks. You're right.

Related to that, did a fair number of other people born into it also leave (or try to) as you did? One of the members speaking to me said they'd grown up in a JW family but wasn't aware of anyone being badly affected by the effects of shunning policies as described. I got the impression they had to do a little mental loop-de-loop at that point, but I could have misread things.

Sorry everyone for the detour. I don't mean get the thread all JW'd up unnecessarily.
