  1. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Oh you mean that weird Nikki game?
  2. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

It's a Topatoco hookup now? NICE.

I'd be interested in hearing / reading more discussion on the anticipated future impact of Minecraft on game development and design practise. Procedural generation, alpha funding, and voxel or at least 3D cuboid style visual representations are already massive now. Exmaple: Thinking about that, albeit from a play rather rather design perspective, I realised that I had assumed Firewatch would use procedural generation in one form or another. Because that's how games are made now, so of course it would. Has anyone else experienced a similar thing with post-Minecraft game announcements? Edit: 'voxel' isn't quite massive enough to make it into mainstream spelling correction software, it would seem...
  4. Screenshots. Shots of your screen.

When are they going to add ETS2 to nexusmod.com?
  5. Idle Thumbs 165: KeLo. Is. Here.

Even before the chat about advertisement slogans, based on the early "it's a NINTENDO" sentiment, I was imagining 90s magazine full page ads: "Do you like games? Do you like good games? Then you'll LOVE the Nintendo Wii U" Of course, in this ad, the illustration is of a kid playing a Nintendo console, bathed in the glow of a small CRT set, whose display we cannot see. The kid is playing a NES with an R.O.B. and a Wii U gamepad. The slogan is to be read in the voice of Reggie Fils-Aime. (I almost wrote that as Nintendo Fils-Aime, whatever that says about me.)
  6. Someone go tweet Max Landis for an explanation, he always seems up for a laugh and he knows his wheat from his corn. Today:
  7. This is how Minecraft's influence is felt throughout all of civilization: Transformers are now made out of voxels, obvs.
  8. Life

Florida is like the Nazareth of the United States. Figuratively, not literally. That would be Nazareth, Texas, of course.
  9. Life

    That one is definitely satire.
  10. It's like it came from a dirty, unofficial Transformerstagram app stuffed with obtrusive ads and friends-list hijacks.
  11. Life

There's this YouTuber whose schtick was reeling off a vast amount of conspiracy theory babble. I had assumed that the whole thing was a massive satire and he was a drama student or out-of-work actor or something. He had a good video about how to cut your own hair. Then this morning I discover that a couple of months ago he was shot and killed by a police officer having approached a member of University staff and stabbed them in the neck (report). Today I'm experiencing increased difficulty in telling the difference between sincerity and straight-faced satire.
  12. Plug your shit

Jay, as it happens I was checking out videos of Hypnospace Enforcer earlier and wondering what it would take to convince you to put it up on Greenlight (by the way the purchase link points towards the same YouTube trailer instead of ), but then... I dunno, itch.io terms are pretty good for devs right now, and especailly right now. Your stuff makes me wish I had stuck with creative pursuits as a younger person. Excellent. Anyway, bought (or at least attempted to buy), because it's three times cheaper than the OST on its own. If multiplication even works that way.

I started with Not A Game #47 and it's really refreshing to hear people chat about games as good friends would talk, without tending towards performing for the audience, but still taking care to give clear explanations about each new game they mentioned. For example, there was really simple, almost throwaway 10 second summary of how League of Legends works as a spectator sport, and that's not easy to do. Top stuff.
  14. Grand Thumb Auto retro PC edition

Hurrah! Thanks for the airport races and runway justice. Not sorry I missed your horrible potty-mouthed pre-game banter though, it was horrible. HORRIBLE AND DISTURBING.
  15. Life

Good life post Jay! The soundtrack is amazing. Also the keyboard player's blue jeans contrast nicely with the warm orange tone of the lighting upon his instruments and score sheets.

Song Exploder "A podcast where musicians take apart their songs, and piece by piece, tell the story of how they were made." So this was a guest podcast on the 99% Invisible design podcast which I believe was recommended earlier in the thread. Loving it so far, really recommend it. Plus it's fun to hear different ways that pod hosts try to make the Squarespace ads sound non-scripted
  23. General Video Game Deals Thread

edit: SpeedRunners. Thinking about getting it before the sale finishes on the grounds that I'm already interested and 1) one of my mates, who maintains high standards when it comes to making game recommendations, says it's actually really good already, and 2) what with it being Early Access, I'm imagining that 40% off now is quite possibly cheaper than what 40% off in December might be. On the other hand, 1) if it had got a daily, flash, or community sale it would have been 70% off, 2) I could get Skyrim to play it in my native language and on PC, and 3) I could then rationalize adding Brothers for not much more than SpeedRunners on its own would be. What would you do?
  24. Insurgency

Sounds far better than could be reasonably expected! How would you describe it in terms of a meets-meets-meets?
