It's 75% off as it dropped to a base price of $20 pretty recently, within the last three months, I want to say. I think they're trying to hook people into the game and get them into the DLC.

I posted this same information in the Titanthumbs thread (which seems silly as chances are that everyone there probably already own it ), but I'll post it here as well: The base game of Titanfall for PC is $5 on Origin.

Idle Thumbs 182: I Am Suspicious of Myself

Loved the conversation about trying to interact/understand beings with completely different modes of comprehension and perception. It's always a bit irritating when I see sci-fi touch on this concept but then sidestep it with technological magic or whatever. The Elcor in Mass Effect, for instance, talk in that monotone way b/c they have a variety of other signifiers- including odors and sub-vocal tones- to convey meaning... but they also have mouths so I guess all that interesting stuff can be avoided. Dead Space 3 had a neat sequence towards the end where you had to open the doors made by a species that communicated in musical-like tones. While the puzzles are simple, the idea is floated in the game somewhere that the species communicated by sounding multiple notes at once and having a sonic range that went beyond humans' natural hearing. I'm also reminded of a Voyager episode where the crew encounters a photon-based species that only communicates with the ship's holograms as they've not encountered carbon-based life. But anyway, I've turned to rambling. I was excited to read about Lem in the thread; I'll definitely check out his books as they seem to focus on this topic. Also, this was a fantastic episode that spanned the range between goofiness and insight that makes this my favorite podcast. Great work! -
How Firewatch, BioShock, Gone Home and System Shock are all set in the same universe

When you have to unlock something that involves the number '451,' the circle will be complete. -
Ha. When you set up the premise, I wasn't thinking of the player in control of a neat character. My brain went immediately to those couriers in Skyrim who interrupt you at the most inopportune times to deliver notes.

~500K. I live in north Orange County though, which is part of the huge sprawl of the Los Angeles/Orange County metro area. Suburbs as far as the eye can see... and it's all super-pricey.

Went Googling out of curiosity and trailer park homes in my city cost ~150K. \:

Might be U.S. only, but Titanfall is going for $16 right now.

Might be an old husband's tale, but I remember reading somewhere that stroking the blade along denim creates a similar effect to using a strop, allowing you to use a blade for much longer. (Can't confirm as I only trim my beard, not shave it.)

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Kind of mixed on the checkpointing (feel like I could have beaten that first level much faster had I been reset to just the boss when dying) but I'm still going so I guess it doesn't bother me that much yet. Have you checked out Tiny Barbarian DX? It's Volgarr-like in that the levels are tough and you have to reach checkpoints to continue progress later, but it checkpoints bosses. It also doesn't demand the same precision that I feel Volgarr does at some points, as I've gotten by and have been a little sloppy. -
Diablo III and its expansion are 50% off physical copies at GameStop.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had memories of a video game triggered by something and then spends a bunch of time trying to remember its title. I just had this experience last night while watching GB's CD-i video and ended up remembering an old arcade game where you play one of many alien species in a starship, dog-fighting arena. I played this a lot at Camelot Aracde b/c as a kid I was obsessed with flying starships and I really liked the flight stick controls. The best part was when I found out the name of the game was Space Lords. Here's some video of the cabinet: The klaxon triggers specific sense memories in me as well. The layout of the arcade, its dankness, the air conditioning, the carpeting, the smell of pizza, the solitude of where the cabinet was located (it was in the back with a lot of the older games), the brown hue of the arcade. I should go back there one of these days.

I found it mildly interesting that a RedBox at a local grocery carried Far Cry 2: I like to imagine that one of our dear, fellow Thumbsters stocks the box and is keeping the torch lit for the game, but it's probably some synergy bull.

So I played the entire game in one long sitting on Labor Day. While I don't regret playing season 2, I didn't enjoy it anywhere as near as the first. Sure the first had glaring issues (the judgement finale; throwaway character in S1E2; etc.), but I feel it got away with that stuff b/c it was so novel. I still like the idea of being a sort of co-writer/actor in these types of games though, so I'll definitely check out reviews for season 3 and hope they do a better job with it all.

Ah! Just downloaded this the other day to play it again. Need to pick up that director's cut DLC as well.

Hmm. Regarding the EA thing: are they saying that EA is placing LGBT characters and concerns in their games to make up for the "shitty game" part by garnering acclaim for it, or are they referring to that letter from Peter Moore in response to being named 'Worst Company of 2013?
