I have had friendly fire situations too, usually because at close range in a surprise encounter I cant tell the difference between the two sides! I'd be up for a foray on Saturday night, if anyone else is!

Bejaysus! It's so difficult to tell the sides apart in this game! Maybe Im missing something! Lots of fun, but it just seems a bit like chaos when you havent got some mates forming a squad with you. Anyone got any tips for helping idnetify who is who? The radar screen only seems to work for people miles away from you...

This is probably a really dumb question, but if I get BadCompany 2 from somewhere other than Steam, will there be aby problem in hooking up with the Thumbs guys who have bought it from steam? It wont interfere with any voice comms or anything will it? Also, yep, the AvP preorder did cancel, and my Universe at War became a 'predownload, awaiting purchase', so I just deleted the local content. I have suddenly been plunged into a dire financial month, so I cant get the BC2 preorder yet, and so will likely have to get it from somewhere else, or later when it does come out.

That is cringeworthy! Who takes the shame for that then??? Don't suppose any of the thumbs crew will be around for some versus tonight then?

I have messaged Steam Support to ask for my pre-order on AvP to be cancelled, as Armchair has convinced me that the Thumbs will be choosing Battlefield Bad Company 2 as the alternative multiplayer game instead of AvP... I hope this is right, and he's not just getting me on one! LoL... Has anyone ever cancelled a pre-order before? What happens, and how long does it take? Cheers. Den.

It would seem after a bit of searching that the demo is only pre-final code, and it only uses DirectX9... Perhaps the final version will be better and we can decide properly then!

I have no life... I am currently sat here... just over half an hour before the Thumbs lobby opens, waiting to join... I need counselling...

Oh my god - it's like, the ULTIMATE sci-fi horror mash up. You MUST have seen Alien or Aliens, right? And you MUST have seen Predator or Predator 2? Now (casting the AVP films aside, as they arent really massively great), imagine those two behemoths of destruction met on a battlefield, with several pasty little humans with pea shooters in the middle! Seriously - I think it would definitely be one t consider. I was saying to Andy that one of the brilliant things about Left4Dead is that on versus, the two teams are fundamentally different, i.e. the infected and survivors, so the way you play the game is different, the tactics you use, and the way you control the characters. In things like CSS and MW2, it's basically the same no matter what team you are on. With AVP you have three distinct factions, three disctinct methods of gameplay, and the potential not to have not enough places for Thumbs guys on a Sunday night! Incidentally, looking forward to the Thumbs meet tomorrow night... P.S. Oh, and Skratche? Isnt it time you updated your sig? Surely it should be hallowed be thy QPI link? FSB is sooo last year...

I like the sound of MW2 but I dont like the sound of how theyve arranged the multiplayer element i.e. servers and stuff. It makes it harder to set up your own game doesnt it? I think I only ever played CSS once about a millenium ago, and didnt like all the die-hard wally's on there (present company always excluded, of course!). I like the sounds of the new AVP. Perhaps it would give us a chance to have a larger group meeting rather than just 4v4, seeing as there would be three factions? I have been sorely tempted to spank the plastic and get it on Steam for a couple of days now - and referring to an earlier post, this being on Steam would make it easier for all friends to join, no? Other than that, the only thing I can think of is the original MW? Cheaper (i think) and easier for servers? Yeah... I think my vote goes to AVP!

Good games tonight everyone! Thanks for a great couple of hours... I like the format that seems to be developing - couple of versus games, then finishing off the evening with a few rounds of scavenge... Hope to see everyone at the next official meet, and perhaps inbetween at 'unofficial' games! Cheers!

I cannot agree more with Scratch on this point. Recently the most fun I have had playing this game has been with groups of organised, and decent people who understand this is a game, for everyone to have fun with. Looking forward to the next official Thumbs gathering on L4D!
