  1. Life

I've been struggling with this too. It's so difficult to meet people in a large city if it's not through school or work. I find that I have brief, very enjoyable conversations with people here and there, but I don't see the same people over and over again to ever establish much of a friendship. I'm also pretty shy beyond superficial interactions. I'm fortunate that most of my friends don't live too far away, but it would still be nice to meet some new people here.
  2. Bad Games

The worst game I've played was a bizarre adventure game for the PS where you are a six legged dragon who has to get the princess to date you, or something like that. I can't remember what it was called, for the life of me. When I was younger, my brother had a strange, slightly pornographic JRPG called Knights of Xentar for the PC that I always found horrible and completely hilarious. I think it was supposed to be funny, though. I've also "played" the Spice Girls "game", but it's too much of an outlier to call the worst.
  3. ファイナルファンタジーXIII

Yeah, full confession: I clicked on the link, saw the mountain of words and ran away, so I may have had a different opinion had I read it. Oops. I am a butt. Fair enough, the mass effect/Dragon Age ads that I was reacting to definitely left all gameplay to the imagination, which I guess that article doesn't, which would know if I had a greater attention span than your average goldfish, which I don't. Uninteresting combat was my primary gripe with FF12, as well and I think it really kept me from getting into it. I want big fancy spells, damn it. I still hope that other aspects of the game will make it awesome and that the combat won't really be as boring as all that. Thunderpeel, I haven't played Blue Dragon. I initially meant to, but got my XBox waaay after it came out, then was distracted by the newer and fancier games out there. It got seriously mediocre reviews, basically along these lines, if I remember correctly. Have you played it? Any good?
  4. ファイナルファンタジーXIII

It's so hard to tell what a game is going to be like before it comes out/releases a demo (sometimes demos don't help either). At least it is for me. I thought Dragon Age was going to be a big pile of cheese from it's marketing campaign, for example, but I ended up adoring it. Also, some aspect of the game that is totally eviscerated by someone else, may really appeal to you personally, or work for what you're looking for in the game. Who knows? I really hope it turns out super awesome.
  5. General Video Game Deals Thread

I've never played Psychonauts. Now I can for two bucks. Woo!
  6. So, how is everyone?

The crack-fox creeped me out. A lot.
  7. ファイナルファンタジーXIII

I'm going to reserve judgement until I play it, which I still fully intend to do. That being said, that trailer was hilariously, unbearably cheesy. That music.. oof. It does look nice though!
  8. New Super Mario Bros Wii

I've been playing the living crap out of this game for the past 2 weeks with three friends, and it's generated some truly amazing quotes. Some highlights: "FUCK!! I wouldn't have died if I hadn't been inside Yoshi." "I'll stop being retarded when you stop jumping on my head." and my personal favorite: "Fuck you, Mario! You just fucked my Yoshi!" This game is so unbelievably fun with 4 people, it's ridiculous.
  9. Rabbids Go Home

The Rabbid's TV party mini game collection for Wii was unexpectedly hilarious and entertaining. I haven't played any of the Rayman-containing games, however. I take it they aren't mini games.
  10. Rabbids Go Home

I have the same issue. Even if there's really no continuous storyline.
  11. Braid

I finished Braid this past weekend. The last two levels were fantastic! The stars are only in the PC version, huh? I've only got it on PS3. How do you unlock the other books in the epilogue, then? Is it by completing the time trials, or does that only net you bragging rights?
  12. Braid

Fair enough, thanks. I think I quit reading fast enough anyway. Seriously though... That freaking hunt zone on world 4.. Why am I stupid?! This game is great.
  13. ファイナルファンタジーXIII

Oh! Sure enough, there it is. Figures that it would show up in my email two days after I sound like a big jerk griping about it. Heh. Hooray, chocobo!!
  14. Braid

Hooray! I'm glad someone else is new to this game to resurrect the thread! I downloaded the game a couple months ago, but only just started really playing it. It's amazing! It looks absoutely beautiful, and some of the music gets stuck in my head for hours. I've just made it to world 4, and some of the puzzles where time moves according to which direction you walk are kicking my butt. This game is great for making you feel like an utter bonehead when you can't figure something out, then like the greatest genius ever to grace the earth when you finally click on it. I love that. Damn it all, though! I always read through these older threads too quickly and accidentally spoilerize myself! The princess is an allegory for what, now? Bah.
  15. ファイナルファンタジーXIII

So... I never got my chocobo for my XBox avatar. Did anyone get theirs? Am I just not looking in the right place? I was expecting to receive an email or something.
  16. Merry Christmas!

Oh, my... I just lost an embarassing(ly hilarious) amount of time to that sketchy Santa site.
  17. San Francisco

If you're looking to go out on the cheap, there are a lot of bars and restaurants on Polk Street, which is a very easy walk from downtown. They're not as fancy as some you can find around, but are really laid-back and the lack of fanciness is reflected in your drink prices and lack of cover charges. The Hemlock tavern is seemingly always busy and usually has bands playing for a modest price, as does the Red Devil Lounge which is just up the street a bit. There's also a bar called Vertigo that does Rock Band competitions on Sunday nights. It's got a really great, nerdy crowd and is a lot of fun, if you're interested in that kind of thing. If you're going to be staying near Japan Town, there's a phenomenal Japanese restaurant called Tanpopo which is right across the street from the Hotel Tomo. Everyone should eat their ramen. It's amazing.
  18. Merry Christmas!

Happy Christmas. I found this amazingly relevant article as a present for all. http://www.theonion.com/content/news/ghost_of_christmas_future_taunts
  19. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Strangepork!! I hope you, the leaky faucet and that mechanical duck will create some very beautiful memories together. YAAAY!
  20. Video game dreams

In the absence of the podcast, I absolutely had to share this dream with others. I'm not sure if a thread of these exists, but I couldn't find one, so here we go. I dreamed last night that I was listening to the podcast, which was still in full swing. As part of their general stream of consciousness, those guys (even Jake (!)) mentioned having played a sequel to Dante's Inferno, which was reported to be super awesome and heartily endorsed. Apparently, this game was a Cooking Mama-ish/general homemaker game starring Dante's mom.... Unfortunately, either my brain didn't feel creative enough to elaborate on the details or I have forgotten them, but I'm content enough with the concept. Ma Alighieri's Biscuit Maker, anyone?
  21. Open Pandora finally here?

Huh. I hadn't heard of it. So, how does it work? Would you install Steam on it or would it require games to be developed for it specifically?
  22. iPhoning it in

I'm Fuzzy Lobster on there too.
  23. Old Games That Hold Up...Or Don't

I often have the same experience. Fortunately, concentration isn't that big of a concern when all you're doing is repeatedly launching a tiny stick-man head first into the ground
  24. iPhoning it in

Oh, wow. Heh. Who knew that the world of competitive Scrabble and Scrabble-like games was so organized? Or.. Existed at all. Well, I petition that they add Mage, Gaia and Vega. If anyone would be interested in a game with a semi-non-stranger, I'm down!
  25. Old Games That Hold Up...Or Don't

I read that ET for the 2600 is still widely considered to be the worst game ever. A friend and I bought one of those self-contained "25 games in one" things of Atari games. Most of them were sadly uninteresting, but we played a shameful amount of that game where you shoot the little dude out of a cannon. That game was wildly entertaining. Beer helped a great deal, as well.
