  1. Minecraft

well at this point they can take their time and make sure it actually works because we've got a buggy version to goof off with in the meantime
  2. Minecraft

these mountains and ravines and mineshafts and rivers are insane. the game hasn't generated landscapes this wacky since around this time last year. i'm just walking around and BAM there's a pillar of stone reaching into the clouds with a huge waterfall coming off of it. then i found a ravine making an X shape with a mineshaft. totally surreal
  3. Minecraft

hah yeah Phaeton is rad too. man i hope this is a legitimate part of the new biome code and not some random bug because i love this stuff. Robinson Crusoecraft
  4. Minecraft

holy crap, try using the seed "unicorn" it started me on an island surrounded by insanely deep waters and there is literally zero land in sight around it 1.8 is awesome so far, i'm sorry i complained update: i just sailed 2 kilometers in one direction, not one scrap of land. if this isn't a bug and is something that occasionally happens, it's amazing. instant survival island.
  5. Minecraft

terrain generation is still wacky (thank god) hunger is weird- it doesn't seem to drop at all for a while and then drops very quickly.
  6. Minecraft

cows drop a fuckload of beef when you kill them now. even better: it stacks the new lighting looks awesome when the sun is setting squids do not drop calamari. the biome generation seems much more logical and less scattershot right clicking blocks chickens can now be cooked and eaten health regenerates even on normal (i'm assuming in relation to full hunger?) XP doesn't actually do anything you have to hold down RMB to eat and it takes a second or so
  7. Minecraft

you guys didn't get this from me but http://assets.minecraft.net/1_8-pre/minecraft.jar since notch addressed it on twitter as an "oops, oh well" i guess it's probably ok to check out
  8. only if you plug in a 360 controller, which is an incredible insult. the menus are total horseshit if you're using a mouse, too. I really like the game despite all its problems but they put like zero effort into the pc port. it works fantastic if you use a controller
  9. Minecraft

very good point. we'll have to take a look at the features that ARE in 1.8 and have a discussion about what settings we want to go for. I think it's probably pretty unanimous that there should be mobs what with new combat and all.
  10. Minecraft

yeah that made me happy too, as well as the fact that it addresses all the bug testing discussion we had. have to say, i'm a little bummed that there will be npc villages but no npcs, and experience points but no reason for them to be there in 1.8. Jens also said that 1.8 worlds will have to be regenerated to have 1.9 features.
  11. Deus Ex 3

    Yes, there is.
  12. Deus Ex 3

by far the easiest way to beat him is to hit him with a gas tank, then a barrel, then a gas tank, and so on. he'll be dead by the third gas tank. the only hard part is hitting him with the first one because after that he'll be dazed and easy to hit
  13. Deus Ex 3

i think it's a great game that you can fire a laundry list of annoying complaints against and it still rises above them. it's not flawless, but it's a fantastic reminder of what games used to be, and what they can be.

true story: those guys are riddled with all kinds of nasty bacteria, including several strains of chlamydia. everything in Australia will kill you.
  15. Deus Ex 3

what, like delete some of my "time played?" or wipe out my achievements or something? either way, i don't give a rat's ass. although i would be slightly miffed if people started telling me i can't mod my PC games, which is the key selling point to me sometimes, i.e. Bethesda games
  16. Deus Ex 3

here's a link to that debug mod I was talking about http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=121245 obviously you could use it to cheat like crazy, but you should get it for the opportunity to unlock those silly preorder exclusives if nothing else
  17. Deus Ex 3

there are also hacks out there that will unlock the preorder items for normal customers. silenced rifle, grenade launcher, remote bombs, hacking devices
  18. Minecraft

jeb said he's shooting for the 8th
  19. Minecraft

Do you mean the nether? if you can consider that a major update, anyway. Personally I'd say the last major SP update was survival mode and that was over a year ago. I'm glad he focused on SMP though, but it will be nice to have more substance that doesn't require installing 50 mods.
  20. Minecraft

and my original comment was really just a crack on that. i'm glad he gets to do what he does. but it would be a very different story if he wasn't self-employed. that's really all i was getting at. I still don't think it's unreasonable to believe that the state the game is at now as of 1.7 probably could have been achieved, easily, 6 months ago at this point. but i'm obviously an outsider here and couldn't know for sure. so uh... that new lighting looks pretty awesome, right guys?
  21. Deus Ex 3

That happened to me. Fortunately the autosave has two files so I was able to go back to the previous save and try again
  22. Deus Ex 3

I hate that designers don't really do that anymore. I understand WHY they want a more controlled, designed experience, but I don't think they understand why you should. the interiors like apartments, etc in DX3 may be a little copy-paste but you'd kind of expect that in real life. And I appreciated that they looked like people would actually live there. My favorite area might have been the Montreal stage, I thought that was a perfect combination of believable real estate and designed gameplay.

You have the three seashells at work?

I think in this particular case the most effective way to handle it would be to hire maybe one dedicated person for QA, who could effectively act as a liaison between the customers/de facto testers and the developers. Having a dedicated team to test would probably be a poor decision on their part. Having somebody in the public eye to organize and address problems with the game would go a long way towards earning good will. Not that they necessarily need it financially/business-wise, but still. Notch acting as the one-man PR machine as well as company lead and one of the lead programmers seems like a bit of a precarious position.

do they have any built-in crash reporting or some kind of bug reporting system? If the minecraft forums are anything to go off of, I'd be terrified of opening up direct bug submissions Having millions of people beta test something doesn't mean much if you're not gathering data..
