From what I understand, breeding has had hidden depth to it from its first implementation in Silver/Gold. I might peek back in on Pokémon, but it depends heavily on the answer to this question: How easy is it to get my hands on a couple Meowths and then fill my entire PC storage with their offspring?

Just spent an hour playing multiplayer, and due to frequent connection problems (on all players' parts) and the occasional lock-up, I have yet to actually finish a mission.
-
Also haven't played any multiplayer yet, but I think I'm going to jump in real soon. LordKorax on Origin.

I really liked the scene where Shelly shoots Leo because it's so atypical of that sort of scene. Shelly doesn't give up and let Leo regain the upper hand, but it's also not the dramatic killing retort that is sometimes used. Shelly doesn't know how to use a gun, and it frightens her. Leo isn't instantly dead from some preternaturally skilled or lucky shot. He cries out in pain, and the scene ends without letting you know exactly what happened.

Okay, setting mesh detail to high fixes the plastic hair weirdness, but it comes with an expected hit in framerate. I dug up some Frostbite 3 console commands to try to disable post-processing stuff, but they either don't do anything noticeable or don't work.

Idle Thumbs 184: Super Pools 'n' Ghosts

DAMMIT, KNUCKLES IN A DIFFERENT HAT IS MY OC, MY "DO NOT STEAL" SCREED WAS VERY CLEAR ABOUT THAT -
I've only played through the prologue, but the only things that have bothered me so far have been technical. A bunch of post-processing stuff has been wrapped up into a single Low-Medium-High-Ultra slider, and apparently the low end has some sort of set-up that results in hair looking like everyone uses petroleum jelly as a pomade. It also means I can't completely turn off things I don't like such as DoF and motion blur. I'm also running two monitors, and even full-screening the game doesn't capture the mouse cursor, so I have to constantly be worried about accidentally clicking my desktop and popping out of the game mid-battle. I'm going to see how using a controller works out, so it may not be an issue for continued play.

Has anyone made an "Assassin's Greed" joke yet? If not, I call dibs.

I would just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that TEN STUDIOS WORKED ON THIS TEN TEN DISTINCT TEAMS OF PEOPLE POURED RESOURCES INTO THIS THING AND IT STILL FELL APART AT THE FINISH LINE

Man, Ray Wise does a disturbingly incredible job at being weird and disheveled and then having a nervous breakdown. I know it's not the first time, but it's always heartbreaking.

It appears that the fortune teller machine gives out special game seeds every once in a while. I haven't tried them out yet, but I've encountered: B00B T00B PACI FISM BL00 00DY From what I understand, any character that can be mistaken for another (O vs 0, etc.) is always a number and gets automatically converted to one if you type it in.

I'm still good for D&D, if needed. I haven't done much with Numenera, but from what I've read, a short first session seems like it would be enough to get character backgrounds and relationships hammered out, and then further creation completed later.

Rebirth on PC has a smoothing filter that you can toggle, but nothing that I've found reverts it to the old art style. The filter isn't in the Vita version, and I haven't played PS4 yet, so I don't know about that one.

We did a few GO Bank stealth runs, and after a couple false starts, had it down pretty good. The constant civilians are definitely a big problem, and the added complication of a possible GenSec check-in can be problematic. We ended up going back to the Bank heist because the time it takes to secure the area can be lengthy, and it wasn't paying out as well as the 2 or 3 smaller heists that could be completed in the same amount of time.

WARNING TO THOSE PLAYING ON PSVITA/PS4: Cross-save syncing is jacked right now. I've played for a while on my Vita, and when I went to sync my save to play on PS4, it pulled down an older save it still had and overwrote a bunch of progress. Some cursory searching online has shown that it's a fairly widespread problem.

I've been playing with a couple old high school buddies for the last few days. They've been playing for a while now, and have their coordination and execution down to a science. We've been stealth-running the Bank Heist and Diamond Store missions on Death Wish, and are usually out in under 10 minutes. It's a little weird trying to find something to do while the vault drill is running, since there are no police to contend with. I've climbed from level 38 to 75 in the last couple of days doing that.

They seem to have set it up exactly the same way that I programmed Joy2Key for the original. It was a nice surprise to be able to just play like I always have. Also, the PSN version is cross-buy and cross-save on PS4 & Vita, and is free this month for PS+ members. I can play BoI on the bus now! Crazy!

Checkpoints are also the only way to actually save your game, because there are no interstitial autosaves when you traverse areas. Enemy respawning is also a little weird. Though individual areas might wrap around on themselves, LotF is ultimately very linear. Areas are separated by doors and such that cut to a loading screen when you proceed. Exiting and re-loading into an area also respawns enemies as if you had rested at a checkpoint. I think it might do the same thing when you quit and then continue playing.

I can confirm that, at least with the shield enemies I was having problems with, kicking does nothing. The heavy overhead strike does break their guard, but they recover so fast it may as well not happen at all. The Ram spell, however breaks guard and does a significant amount of damage, so that's good. Humanity and the EXP multiplier have slight similarity, but are ultimately fairly different. Humanity confers a buff to item drop rate and curse resistance, but only up to a certain point (10 humanity, if memory serves). You also could recover it along with your souls at your blood stain. You only ever lost it if you lost your blood stain or spent it reverse-hollowing or kindling bonfires (I'm sure there are a few other more obscure ways, but none come to mind). The multiplier in LORDS does buff item discovery rate, but also boosts EXP gain by 1% for every enemy killed. I don't know if there's a limit, but I've gotten up to around a 60% boost before resetting it. The multiplier also goes away when you die (I'm pretty sure), or (more importantly) if you spend any experience at a checkpoint. It becomes a choice between better item/experience gain or increasing stats/spellcasting abilities. There's also a mechanic where the amount of EXP held by your ghost (blood stain) starts to decay if you take too long to recover it, making things that much more risky.

If the games are going to be on alternating weeks, I can also fill out a D&D party if need be. I've done some 3/3.5e and Pathfinder in the past, and I've got the 5e PHB, so I might have some idea of what's going on.

I'd love to get in on that Numenera.

I tried playing it on launch before there was an option to disable PhysX turbulence, and man, did it cut down on framerate. I still played a few hours, and though I have some problems with it (the lack of a guard break makes for some particularly drawn-out and tedious fights), I'll probably keep at it for at least a little longer. The game also has quite the obsession with lords. The lords are invading from another dimension, so you must go to where the lords come from and find a way to stop the lords from lording lord lord lord. Lord.

World of Darkness is... weird. And that's not even talking about the actual playing of the games. The "World of Darkness" is where White Wolf sets its games. I believe it started with Vampire, but expanded to Werewolf, Changeling, Wraith, Mage, Hunter, Mummy (yes, a mummy game), Demon, and Orpheus. White Wolf eventually revamped (pun intended) the setting and released it as the World of Darkness and used supplemental books to flesh out specifics for Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, and a few other things. Among the people I know who play WoD it's generally agreed that the new ruleset is much better, but the old setting is preferred, and we have always just played old WoD with house rules to patch over some of the more iffy parts. That said, WoD is meant to be largely social and player-driven, so having to mess around with systems happens far less than most other games.
