  1. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

Pick your weapon based on what you like the feel of - strong and slow of quick and weak. I like the longsword or the axe sometimes. I like the heater shield for the 100% melee resistance too. Don't level up too much, the enemies scale. You should get as much str and dex as you need for your weapon and get endurance after that as needed.

On the flip side, I was supposed to be intervewing a graduate yesterday for a software job. The jerk never showed up and hasn't communicated. Kids these days, sheesh.

In which episode was the music from the beach in Bioshock Infinite discussed?
  4. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

I so want to buy this but I'm afraid I'll be judged.

Just put it somewhere hilarious. Suspended by one leg by rope over the toilet and alongside a letter from the Grinch. Also, steal all their sweets for added effect.

  7. GOTY.cx 2013

I'm surprised how little i care about my 3DS. I was very excited to get it, but FE, Mairo and the Zelda remake are all sitting unfinished. I may go back over Chrstmas, as I'll not have my PC with me. For me the year has all been about roguelike-likes and tiles. My standouts are: Civ V: Brave New World. I haven't spent a great amount of time playing it, but the few games I did complete were a joy. The new systems they added were just excellent. (I imagine that the Xcom expansion would feature beside this if I had purchased it, but I'm waiting for the sale. Rogue Legacy and Spelunky: Maybe unfair to compare the two, but they occupy the same place in my brain and on my joypad. Despite the surity that I will never be a master at either, they are both just hilarious fun to play, dodging spikes and farting on enemies. Card Hunter: Tickled every bone that I expected Fire Emblem to tickle (FE was excellent as well, but missed that something). I put my money in the very first day I tried it out as from the outset I knew I would be spending a lot of time with it. 868-HACK: Gosh but this helped me pass the time in my old job. Honoruable Mentions: Risk of Rain (so good, but i feel it needs multiplayer to shine, and i haven't played enough multiplayer) Desktop Dungeons (finally released, same flaws, same triumphs as two years ago) Gone Home (Really wonderful) Mario 3DS (Again, not sure what keeps me from this) Super Crate Box (thank you jake for the offhand recomendation on the cast! Let down as usual by the bloody controls) Fire Emblem Disqualified, but close to my heart: Brogue on the ipad Elder Signs Omens ipad (2012) Dota2 Lol
  8. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Not posting any music, but i got tickets to St. Vincent live in Feburary. Whoot. Been wanting to see her live for quite a while!
  9. LoL (League of Legends (Lords))

I've been obsessed with LoL the last few weeks. I think my brain can't handle Dota at the moment. I did my placement matches for S4 and got put in bronze 1. i'm sad, i think i played better than bronze 1, but I was in some terrible placement matches. Anyhow, won 7 of my last 9 matches since placing. My next match, which is prob this evening, if won, will put me into silver V, so i'm really hoping it's a win as i will have to start placement again if it isn't. Nail biting last night, had a really excellent match that we eventually lost. I enjoy this game so much when they matches are good - win or loose. But when your carry goes 1/8/2, or their top lets your top juggernaut so that it is a stomp that you win it can just be dreadful (i'll take a stompy win to raise my rank though).

Was it the jab that caused it, or unhappy coincidence? I got a horrible cold and swolen arm from the menangitis vaccine a few years back. Better than my brain exploding though.
  11. We were allowed to use calculators to do arithmatic, but a lot of the math modules had no more use for a calculator than an English class. As for trig, calculus etc., by the time you leave secondary school having done higher level maths over here you will know how to work out the trig functions on 0/30/45/60/90 etc angles using the unit circle and triangle magic. Indices are at worst just repeated multilications. Questions were often limited to these terms so that calculators were not needed and this continued into university. I was giving grinds to a relative and he was pulling out his calculator to calculate sums like 2^3. I dispaired, but then i discovered that he thought 1^5 was equal to 5. Sensing and opertunity to correct what would apper to be some bad maths education, we had a 10 minute discussion on the basics of what indices are, and how you calculate them, and if you weren't sure, how to write them down to work them out. After the talk he once again answered that 1^5 was equal to 5, so i told him to use his calculator because it was getting late. He has been 4 years getting into 3rd year of his science course. How do you ever get better if you just run to your calculator each time? What happens if you have to x^2 + 2x^2? Can't really pull the claculator out on that one. 1^x the same. Edit: i like maths Edit: Just looked up those calculators. My friend from america had one! We used to just draw smiley faces using functions. I never knew you could get games on them! Sweeet.

I always was told that question was your oppertunity to show how you cope with weaknesses rather than just answering straight. Everything you do in an interview should be to show them how amazeballs you are. For ref, my answer is procrastination. I cope by prioritising efficiently, ensuring i stick to self imposed deadlines and keeping running lists of work to be done. yadda yadda. At an interview earlier this year i was asked what my biggest regret from my work was, and that was followed up with what was my biggest triumph. My truthful answers probably put me at odds with the job i was going for (FEA engineer) but i never want to misrepresent myself in an interview. I had a job at the time of the interview, so my need to get into a job wansn't pressing enough for me to go in and mould my answers into the framework they were looking for. I treated the interview more as an exploration of what they wanted from me, what i wanted from them and where the job was going. It would have been an awesome job to get - extremly well paid, great holidays, located in Zurich...but i think at the end of the day i would have gotten bored by the work and possibly moved on far quicker than anyone wanted, and that probably got reflected in my answers as the interview progresed. stewmull, never promise to work overtime, what if they called you on it!:0 The worst.

So, interview set up for Monday. First time I will be on the interviewer side of the table! This shall be interesting. I'm going to be the good/passive agressive cop.
  16. I think the exploring in that game is expressed more through the epic puzzle solving. When you see that nifty sword behind a grate and tear your hair out trying to solve the riddle to get it.

  18. Grand Thumb Auto retro PC edition

It meant that when someone fell way behind, there wasn't the option to turn around and shoot everyone for the lulz. That track/car combo was a lot of fun alright though!

When I was young I though the, "if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down" advice applied only for pee. I always wondered how you got brown pee.
  22. I need help to find a "hybrid" PC monitor?

Thanks Thrik. I'm just looking for a basic model really. I'll take note of what my video card outputs and make sure to match. Deffo not 3D. I'm not sure i can see 3D very well:(
  23. I need help to find a "hybrid" PC monitor?

If I want to get a medium size tv (~30 inch maybe) to put at the other side of my room from my computer and play Steam Big Picutre mode on, will just about any mordern tv with a hdmi do? Is apple TV the best choice for a netflix box these days (available in ireland) if i wanted a seperate box to do so?

SO, someone on my FB just posed from an exercise app that will read her the comments and likes that people leave on the post while she cycles around. I just posed the opening page of Emma. Tempted to post the rest of the chapter.
