I'm watching through the League, and suddenly Goldblum is the father of one of the characters:
  3. Life

To make a contrasting post, I'm positively elated lately. I'm prepping everything to move back to Norway for my new job, and I just came back from Oslo after finding a fantastic apartment. It's a little more expensive than we were looking for, but it's really central and has everything we would want. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders, like the last two years have been kind of like purgatory. While in Oslo I met up with a very good friend from university, that I haven't gotten to see since. We and our respective mates had dinner then stayed up late just talking about everything and nothing. I haven't had an evening like that in the whole time I've been living here, and it felt so nice. We will have friends again! One damper is that we have to deal with my girlfriends visa. We fulfill every requirement, but have to slog through the paperwork and get to worry for months before it gets approved. Not to mention paying an huge sum to get her official documents and birth certificate from Brazil, without having to there herself. Her current job wants her to continue working from Norway and occasionally going back until they find someone new, which is great. But the law states that you can't leave the country while waiting for the visa, so that might prove a problem. We're hoping to work it out, but it's complicated.
  4. Nintendo 3DS

Oh yeah, it wasn't just the animation, but the fact that they went through loads of text that was identical every time. It just felt like it took forever even with R, especially compared to the speed of the Nintendo-made Streetpass games.
  5. Nintendo 3DS

I hate the garden one because each action has such a grueling long animation, I stopped playing as soon as I had 20 flowers in my book.
  6. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yup, this happened to an aquaintance. He posted "Ok, I'm confused about #GameFelate, can someone post a link to an objective summary?". Of course he got linked a lot of JPEGs with wild conjecture, but my girlfriend linked to one of the VICE articles, and he said "Oh ok, now I understand what's REALLY happening". Thing is, he campained heavily for the Swedish Feminist Initiative during the elections. I wonder if they assumed he would swallow it easily? They were civil, but I bet they wouldn't be if confronted or questioned.

So in regards to this, I ended up going with the new and shiny job. It sounds more fun, pays better, and will also mark a new start in my life. Ironically, it looks like my girlfriend, who works for the same company as me, but a different brand, might be able to continue her current work from Oslo while they find a good replacement, so I will still see the people in the office I declined working at. I'm excited. More specifically, I'm excited for that first day when everything is moved in, settled, bureaucracy tackled, and we can sit down in the couch of a new apartment and start a new life.

TB and a lot of LaterGaters seem to conflate the statement "Gaming has a misogyny problem" with "everyone who plays video games is a misogynist", and then they feel personally attacked instead of reflecting on it. Regarding that facebook thread that was posted some pages back, I was shocked to hear that it was supposed to be "proof" of the so-called SJWs ganging up on a GamerBater, given how crazy he gets by being argued calmly with. Especially the last part where he says "Leigh is like the antichrist to us". Why? Why can't she just be a person with an opinion that you disagree with?
  9. Feminism

    No thanks, you keep them.

I'm the same boat, I coasted through until second half of university. And here there was no such thing as a gifted program, so me and my friends would often solve the assignments in the class in half the time, then do whatever homework, then goof off for the rest of the class. And yeah Miffy, that's a great move, I too wish someone had a teacher like that.
  14. Life

Both jobs are in the same city, so I will be closer to friends and family either way.
  15. Life

[Previously, on "Hermie's life": 2 years ago I ended up in a situation where I had to either let my long-distance girlfriend get away, or abandon my friends and everything else and move to another country with her. I chose my girlfriend, packed my bags, and moved from Norway to Sweden. We've ended up kinda lonely, and have been trying to find an opportunity to move back to Norway.] Yesterday I finally got the chance I'm waiting for. I've gone to two interviews for a really cool job in Oslo, and I got the formal job offer on friday. But while waiting for this, I got a tip that a position was opening up in the Oslo office of my current job. I called the boss there on friday, and he basically said "Well, everyone in the group appreciate you and think you would be the person that would best fit in with them." The pay and benefits is around the same as the external job. So now history repeats itself, I have to make ANOTHER grand binary choice with a short deadline and a bunch of unknowns that could shape my future. Still not convinced my life isn't run by Ed Harris with a headset and turtleneck. The external job is to be the publisher/curator of the streaming service of a cable provider. I would pick the highlights for the front page, publish news to the website and facebook, write summaries, and so on. As I have a film degree this speaks to me a lot, but they have a very mainstream focus, so I'm slightly nervous that the day-to-day can end up feeling soulless or have too much administration stuff. The internal job is similar, but for an electronics retailer, publishing products like computers, accessories and video games with their product text and images. But it also includes setting the prices every day, to make sure they are matching the competitors, and also planning and ordering the products to the online shop and to the stores. So it's more number-crunching, which I don't particularly care for, but it's within a framework where I already know everyone and the products, systems and whatnot. In addition, I'm sitting on a bunch of frustrations from 2 years of customer service, and would finally be in a position to change things. So do I choose the new shiny job, that might be really cool, but could also be a let-down in the long run? In a new, giant company where I don't know anyone? Or do I choose the small office where I know everyone and get along with them, but where the tasks themselves are a little less appealing? I'll of course try to negotiate a bit back and forth to see if any of them would actually up the salary to secure me, but I'm terrified of doing so in case I go too far. This is of course a way better choice than the one I had to make two years ago, but it's still a conundrum with no clear solution, that will vastly affect how the next couple of years of my life will look like.
  16. DOTA 2

Wow, a lot of crazy stuff. I'm currently mostly a spectator, so I'm excited to see Legion Commander and Terrorblade in Captain's Mode. Will also be really interesting to see how they use the map changes in the pro games.
  17. Other podcasts

For comedy podcasts, I recently started listening to Regular Features and am loving it. It's the third part of the Matt Lees triforce together with Daft Souls and Shut Up & Sit Down, but is stricly about comedy. It's quite funny, the hosts have a good rapport, and as we all know British accents makes everything funnier.

Tegan, that looks easy. You just learn very basic French and just use the English words for the important words of the sentence.
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

That's be a Poetic Justice Bard, surely?
  20. Life

Tegan, you do not suck. I know this is extremely hard, but you can't let that voice in your head dictate what you can't and cannot do. If you're staying home all day, sure, you have time to do creative stuff, but then it becomes really hard to have motivation or energy to do so. Even getting out and going to the library or a coffee place can do wonders, because it forces you to do the little normal things you're suppose to do as a human, like get dressed, eat on a regular schedule and talk to other humans. (I'm sure you've heard all of this before, but hey, it's important) As for jobs, is there something more administrative you can do? Like secretary, office assistant, financial admin, postal worker, that kind of thing? Can be boring, but fits the bill for what you can/cannot do.
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I suppose that's true, Gorm. It might also trigger their confirmation bias of "Hey, we're only being rational and logical here, while 'they' are manipulative and trying to put forward their agenda."
  22. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Yeah, for all its problems, I think the SS art direction might be among my favourite for a Zelda game. The color palette alone was just so pleasing, especially in the open areas. It was muted but still colourful, compared to the muted and kinda grey of TP. As for TP, the moments I remember the most was zipping around walls on your gear skateboard. Too bad it was mostly for only one dungeon.
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I think this behavior is something Adam Baldwin taught them. When I joined Twitter years ago I briefly followed him because I liked Firefly and Chuck, but then I quickly went "oh my god no". Part of his thing was linking to a big list of fallacies whenever someone argued against him.
  24. Ello.co

Ah, that should be ello.co/join, my bad, I copied the wrong thing. (Stupid work being so distracting from my foruming.)

    Sending you one, Mingt.
