  1. Man, so glad to hear about the Good News, I don't know what I would do with out my regular dose of Thumbage. I mean, how many other people can make me crack up in the middle of the street, by just saying a bunch of one-syllable words strung together in a random order? Oh, and since I haven't said it yet, Congratulations, Fucknick. =D So they should go the Modern Warfare route. FIVE 2.
  2. Wizaaaaaards!!

Oh no. Principles vs. Wizardy. The dilemma!
  3. Google Wave

I'm shadowrocker [at] googlewave. I'll post if I ever get some invites. Waving Thumbs!
  4. GonkH8er is still around, and is a very nice guy. ^^ Still has the same avatar, too! o/ (LucasForums is cool too, check it out. You'll fit right in if you're a grumpy old gamer complaining about how LucasArts were better before.
  5. To compare video games to movies again, when it comes to maturing as a medium... The film first debuted around 1895, and then it was only very short, very basic snippets. So we can call that the Pong era. Then it wasn't until 1915 that movies became the feature film we know today, with full length, close ups, proper character development, et al. So that's 20 years, which puts us at the mid-ninties. Now for the point I'm getting at, which is that we're always pining for the Citizen Kane of video games. Well, Kane was released in 1941, almost 50 years after the films first inception. It took that long to get Welles and co. to perfect their medium, and come up with all these techniques for visual story-telling. So I guess my point is, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to say that games are inherently immature story-telling devices, or that we should be so quick to look for the greatest achievement in video game narrative just yet.
  6. Rad is a great word, I associate it with stuff that is cool, in that slightly cheesy way, but is aware of it. For example, Big Trouble In Little China is in all respects, a 'rad' movie. Also: The Totally Rad Show.
  7. Great cast, as always! And happy thumbsday! I'm glad you talked about Tales, I think pretty much everyone knows that Jake Video Games works at Telltale, and we know that you know better than to put in blatant advertisements. I almost missed the free first episode on Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day, but because of that offer, I've decided to get the full season. Also loved Remo on Gamers With Jobs, btw! Great follow-up discussion on Subject Extreme, by two of my favouritest Internet Radio Discussion Persons. =)
  8. New people: Read this, say hi.

Ooops, I totally skipped this thread! Pretend like this was 10 posts ago or something. Hey Thumbers, I'm Hermie! I'm a Norwegian gamer, who recently advanced to level 20. I take film studies at the university, and so far it's been fascinating to compare the early days of Hollywood and film making to what we are now experiencing with video games, and Idle Thumbs is one of the few video game podcasts that looks properly on narratives and the like. Oh, I was introduced to Idle Thumbs by my main man Moelman. Love that dude. <3
  9. Since the conversation is serving in to believable female characters, I have to mention The Longest Journey (and, to a lesser degree, Dreamfall). Not only is it one of the best [adventure] games I've ever experienced, it has a great female lead, who you first really get connected to, through her everyday life and friends, and who then keep you grounded once you embark on your adventure. I really really dug the story in TSL, and especially because of April Ryan. I think the game is under-represented on Idle Thumbs, but I wont mail in and berate them for that before I've worked my way through the entire archive, could be I'm totally wrong. :x
  10. Other podcasts

Garnett Lee joins ShackNews! Could this mean.... ShackCast? With Garnett Lee AND Nick? We can but dream.

  12. Great pod this week! I love it when Hot Scoops are being casted in my face. I laughed a lot about the noir voice-over, it was perfectly timed, and never over-done. xD For those who are wondering, the "smokey sax" theme in the ODST OST (OT T) is called Neon Nights, definitely my favourite track on the album so far. [edit] Also this:
  13. Wizaaaaaards!!

I finally got around to seeing Juno the other day, and realized Michael Cera's character uses the positive exclamation "Wizard" to describe something that is very good, such as getting to have sex with Ellen Page. Clearly, Diablo Cody is part of our underground cabal of wizards. Does that make her a stripper wizard? ...Strippard?
  14. I would really love that! It would be really great to get your first-hand reactions to video games. Maybe play some old, lesser-known computer games PC titles that deserve to be highlighted?
  15. Oh wow it's Ryan Davis of giantbomb. ._.
  16. How I Met Your Mother

That is the best spam I have read in quite some time.
  17. Expansion Pax! I get it!
  18. Wizaaaaaards!!

[ ] I have read and accepted the term of the End User Sorcery Agreement.
  19. Wizaaaaaards!!

I sadly have not encountered any Wizards in real life, but since Idle Thumbs, I laugh to myself every time I have to run a "Setup Wizard".
  20. Ohh, is this some new DLC I am not aware of? [edit] Okay, I actually finished the episode now. I thought I followed the development of TF2 pretty closely, guess I forgot about that name. =/
