I thought the Monkey Island: SE solved the click problem decently with the push-around cursor, which worked fine except in puzzle with time pressure, and the fact that the double-click to quick action didn't always work (though supposedly they fixed that in an update?).

Yeah, I realized from other posts that he was talking about the TAL app. And so I ask like others, why not just listen to the podcast instead? <.<
-
Heh, first time I've heard that. xD It's usually Sanji, or "a girl". <.< (I may or may not have cosplayed as one of the above.)

The iPod Touch can run the music/pocast under other apps, as long as the apps allow it. Not sure why this isn't the case with the iPhone. :s
-
I really know absolutely nothing about the development process, which is why I asked for you guys' opinion. And I'm already learning! As for the iPhone vs. PC, I don't know much, but I imagine it can be easier to have it on a known service rather than on a website you have to self-promote? I'll trawl the app store from time to time for random apps, but I rarely seek out indie games randomly on the internet, unless they come recommended by f. ex. this forum, at which point someone else must have heard about it/tried it first. Again, I'm talking straight out of my ass, so feel free to enlighten me, people that actually know Things. \o/

Eh, this is less of a forum thing, and more of a "I should make something up so that people will actually post, and maybe even take some goofy ass pics of themselves" thing. <.< Sweet pic though!

We are again on the path of trying to compare it to completely different groups of hardware. I still say we call "tablet" it's own category, and then focus on if the price to feature-set ratio is something that appeals to you personally. As far as the app store goes, I think the negative view a lot of people have of it stems from the fact that we just hear the horror stories about how arbitrary the approval (app-proval?) process is, like the guy who got denied simply because he mentioned in the description that the app had been successful on the android. While that is bullshit and shouldn't happen, there are still hundreds of apps that make it through just fine every day, but we don't hear about their process, because it went fine. I think I will usually have a pretty positive view on the app store, because despite all the problems, it has still made a completely new market for developers, one that's low-risk, low investment needed, and low barrier to entry. This means that people curious about game development can try something like this on the side of a different job, alone, without having to abandon everything and investing savings in starting a studio. And if they then want to go further into game development, they have a fully shipped game on their resume. I have seen several Thumbs saying they either are or want to try out being app developers. Are you reading this thread? What are your thoughts on the app store? On the iPad?

It started as an injoke on the set of Spaced, since they had trouble making the dog there look where they wanted him to for the shots. Then they claim dogs can't look up in both Shaun and Hot Fuzz. (I out-dork you all!)
-
Oh wow, this is a Thumbs game? I had no idea! That's what I get for not paying attention to the forums earlier, I suppose. So was that one of you guys in the Giant Bomb quicklook? It made me really interested, but seeing this thread made it into a must buy! (On the 15th, when there's actual money on my bank account. <.<) Can't wait to play it.

Good point, Cole. And Apple knows to exploit this better than pretty much anyone. They know they have customers so loyal they will even buy the product AGAIN again when it comes out with a bigger featureset (like this time around, with the wifi/3G split).

Heh, knew I was being too generic. <.< I'm not trying to make excuses for it, I'm merely trying to analyze the reaction. I didn't say it was "our fault" at all. If Apple is confusing us, that is clearly their fault, for not making the message strong enough. Of course, it's much easier to market something like "This is the best Smartphone!" than "This is the best device to have on your lap when you're on the sofa or maybe on the can or something!" But like I said, I see nothing that interest me in it, and it seems you don't either. So that's two consumers lost for Apple, and I bet there's a lot of people thinking like us. It is, but again, those were all from day-one buyers, who knew they wanted one. I'm betting reception will be a lot more mixed the further we come from the launch.

It always seems to amaze foreigners that where I come from, up in Northern Norway (also in places equally up north, like in Finland, Russia, Canada and Alaska), The sun is up 24/7 during summer. When you're walking home from the pub at 3am, it still looks like noon outside. (Actually, not quite like noon, since it still goes really low, so every shadow will be really long, and the sky will be lit up with orange and pink) Consequently, in winter the sun doesn't come up at all, and we only have daylight a couple of hours each day. It's hard to get up at the morning and be at school by 8am when it's still dark, then when you exit at 4, it's dark again. 3:

I think what's making people so unsure about this device, and what makes people argue so about it on the Internet, is that Apple is trying something completely new. Instead of trying to reach the pinnacle of an existing market (like the Smartphone, notebook or netbook markets), they are making a new market, trying to create a new consumer need that wasn't there before. People are calling it an overgrown iPod, a gimped netbook, an advanced Kindle, but it is all of these things, yet it is none of them. So this is what's causing the confusion, people are not sure what they should do with this device, or why they should want it. So I guess the only thing to do is to look at your own situation, and find out if the features it provide are something you need. if not, don't get it. My twitter feed has been pretty much all positive, but guess what? Those are the people who already knew that they wanted one. The only thing so far that has piqued my interest is Sam & Max, but that is still not enough to make the device buy-worthy for me. So I wont get it, but I wont make a fuzz about it. It is simply a piece of electronic, that I see no need for buying, but maybe others do. I know I'm sounding kinda generic, but those are my thoughts. ^^

Oh man, putting this here cause it doesn't fit anywhere else, and I need to post this. Lately, when I'm unsure of a URL, I just use the firefox feature to type something into the address bar for an instant "I'm feeling lucky" search, it usually gets me where I want. But when wanting to check the forum just now, I opened a new tab, and without realizing it, just typed "Video games" and hit enter.

Yup, they rushed it through the 3D upconversion process in 6 weeks, after seeing how well Avatar did. From what I hear, you're better off watching How To Train Your Dragon, be it in 3D or 2D.

It's Finnish. (Of course.)

I can understand parts of it, but I wouldn't be able to make an accurate translation of it. ^^ If you don't get any bites here on the forum, I can try asking some of my German friends if they could bother. :3 Crowdsourcing!

http://www.thegamingvault.com/2010/03/gamer-tries-to-steal-breach-code-gets-caught/ This guy is astonishingly stupid. ._. He sneaks around the booth, waits until the guy manning the computer is at the bathroom, runs up with his own laptop, hooks it up, and starts downloading. Then when he gets asked what he's doing, he runs for it. Of course, he gets chased down, apprehended by security, and then handed over to the police. And that's just the start of his stupidity, it goes downhill to admitting openly at several times that he was doing it, almost braggingly, trying to bribe the police with 100$, and most recently, skipping bail, while his gamertag shows him playing Modern Warfare 2...

I like Burn Notice too, like the others say, it's a great way to just kick back and have some nonsense fun. ^^ Also Bruce Campell is The Best. If you watch Burn Notice: Notice how many variations they try to make on the opening line, "When you're a spy..." Wallander is good, I've read a couple of the books, but I haven't seen any of the TV movies yet. :3
