Roger Ebert rehashes old debate even indie hipsters are tired of
Hermie replied to Forbin's topic in Video Gaming
Where this one fell apart for me was when he decided that games are only systems, and not even considering that they can be used as narrative devices. That pretty much rendered the rest of his column moot. -
Context: Dr. McNinja has been captured, along with his long lost clone, who he's now catching up with: (seriously you guys this is the best webcomic)
-
I've been playing with the thought too, mostly because I haven't been playing much lately. <.< But the discussion of TF2 on the latest 'cast made me really excited to play more! We still need to find a suitable server/timeslot for Thumb play. (Also I want those Sam & Max items damnit.)

Nope! Scandinavia is Norway/Sweden/Denmark, and even Denmark is a bit iffy, since the name comes from the half-island Norway and Sweden is on. There is a "Nordic" grouping though, that includes Scandinavia, Finland, Iceland, and a couple of the island nation that is in the area. (And you're right, we'll just come by land or with our longboats, until our dragons can take off again...)
-
Yeah, I know. How crazy/annoying/awesomely weird would that be, though, if you just couldn't fly in Scandinavia anymore?
-
So a volcano on Iceland decided to start erupting, spewing ashes that will eventually reach Northern Europe. This means that every plane in Scandinavia, Finland and Northern Britain is grounded until further notice. How much further? Well, the last time this volcano erupted, it lasted two years, from 1821 to 1823... Luckily I don't have any travel planned in the nearest future, but I am studying in a different town, and would like to get home this summer. <.< Apparently we'll start seeing the clouds/ash rain later if it keeps going in this direction. Anyone getting affected by this?

To be fair, she had the same look before the clarinet.

I couldn't help myself: (Note, I know that's not how you hold those instruments.)

I have a G15 too, and can highly recommend it. The feel of the keys are great, and the LCD screen on the top is really useful, it displays stuff like how much of the system is busy, or an HP bar, if the game supports it. ^^

Remember when Chris said Jordan Mechner might be bringing The Last Express back in a different medium? behold: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/04/13/paul-verhoeven-developing-big-screen-adaptation-of-jordan-mechners-video-game-the-last-express/ While I bet most Thumbs would be screaming the answer at the end of this description, the interviewer at MTV couldn't figure it out. Peter Sciretta at /Film did, though, so kudos to him I guess? It kinda hurts me to see the film bloggers to refer to Mechner as the guy who wrote Prince of Persia the movie. <.< Then again most people even within OUR industry don't know the guy, let alone outside our "culture". Paul Verhoeven, for those who don't know, is most famous as the man who made Robocop, but he has also made Total Recall, Starship Troopers, Basic Instinct, and... *ahem* Showgirls. Seems to me this wont just be an easy cash grab based on a familiar name, since well, The Last Express is not a familiar name to people. <.< What do you think? Will they stay true to the game? CAN they even, given the unique narrative of The Last Express? ? ? ?

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 5: His Cyborg Familiar
Hermie replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
That ^ Also, the banner picture from ep. 39, where Jake is a sweet sheriff: -
Oh my god I want to make ALL of these game covers help.
-
That's what I thought about it too. Great throwback film! And while it doesn't bring anything new to the table that other horror films haven't, it was genre-aware enough that it kept me guessing, and so I didn't have the whole plot figured out by the end of the intro, as is the case with a lot of horror films nowadays. I guess self-referential horrors are not something that lends itself to everyone. I'd put this in the same category as Drag Me To Hell, a movie I found fantastic, but I've heard from a lot of people who didn't like/get it. (HotD is not as ridiculous as DMTH, though, for better or for worse. <.<)

Random hilarity I just noticed on Jake's Giant Bomb page: The browser headline says "Jake Rodkin (video game person)". It does say that on all the developers, but I found this amusing applied to Jake. <.< Also, this is beautiful: http://www.giantbomb.com/my-horse-and-me/61-20854/credits/ [edit]Success! Chris Remo is now a (video game person). (Somebody stop me)
-
Dunno about you, but seeing every part of the game played twice is more than enough for me, especially since I get to see all the weird/funny parts, and not have to struggle with the actual combat. <.< The endurance runs are great so far, I loved the Persona 4 one, and this one has kept up the quality so far. ^^

Oh, and Jake was right about the nicknames, I put them on the Phaedrus poster BECAUSE they were used so much in the GDC episode. -
The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 5: His Cyborg Familiar
Hermie replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
It is done! Click for full size. Didn't get quite the stock pics I needed, so it does look a little stitched together, but I'm happy with it. \o/ Note Robopuffin, the Cyborg Familiar of the Cyberwizard. -
Oh yeah, I remember seeing this trailer flowing around. It holds the award of first thing to gross me out since I was introduced to the internet.
-
This. I usually didn't bother with the database, because everyone already knows more than me, but the quest system had me going out and finding pages that needed updating, like adding "My Horse and Me" to Mareks page.
-
I see you are both flashing the W, the official gang sign of The Wizard.
-
I'm loving this feature! I'm already a completionist, AND a semi-active GB user, so this is right in my wheelhouse. I'm already lvl. 10... <.<

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 5: His Cyborg Familiar
Hermie replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Oh man, I was disappointed that there was nothing quite shoopable in this episode, then at the very end you suddenly make a whole cyber-punk novel! Looks like I have my work cut out for me. *rolls up sleeves* -
Hello, I live in the UK, please bum me with democracy.

tl;dr version of the bill, please? <.< -
Opposable Thumbs have a follow-up interview with the Evony, where they explain that everything is fine, and a misunderstanding. Then they have some court records showing that everything is not fine, and that these guys are in fact full of feces.
