  1. I never expected Minecraft to be THIS awesome. Currently, I'm trying to figure out how to make a tunnel made out of glass under the lake near my fortress.

This game is way more fun if you pretend you're one of the dwarves from Dwarf Fortress. I can't wait until Notch patches in Alcohol.

You're never allowed above ground. Bloody elf.

    /grumble

  2. Interesting. I wasn't really excited about the 3rd Layton game. But glad to hear it's at least better than the 2nd one. I got sort of bored with the second one, the story wasn't very compelling.

It's more Layton goodness really. A lot of great backstory, and some riveting revelations as the story goes on.

  3. I just discovered Minecraft the other day. It's amazing. So far what you guys are talking about is far above my head though. I've really only acted out my fantasy of being a DF dwarf and digging far into underground caverns.

I'm only just discovering the madness that can be unleashed with a crafting table and a furnace.

When I've got the hang of it in singleplayer a bit more I'd love to pop into the idle thumbs server to check out what you guys have been up to!

There's a mod out which lets us convert out DF saves into MC, which I'm very excited about. Think of how fast we'll be able to get some mining done! Will repost with link when I get in, but I'm at uni now.

  4. I recently burned through Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, and was pleasantly surprised.

With all the previous Layton games, I tend to get halfway in, and I just fall out of it. Not with an active "I'm done with this shit" kinda thing, more of a product of it being "Pick up, do 2 puzzles and get back to paying attention in lectures". But I finally pushed through this one, made it to the end, and thouroughly enjoyed it. The puzzle to story ratio was perfect, as usual-with a fantastic story which really explains a bit more of Laytons past.

I don't know how I feel about the 4th and 5th games, however. They're already OUT in Japan, and we already know that they are prequels. In a way, UF ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I'd love to know how it carries on, but with us being 2 games behind, and neither of them being the sequel, I'm not holding out too long.

    And the ending where

Luke and Layton finally have to part ways, really hit a soft spot. It was such a pure friendship, and seeing them being broken apart was pretty emotional, for me personally. But a gentleman never makes a scene in public

    Would recommend!

  5. Hm, I wonder if lava does the same thing as water, with leveling off with two adjacent lava blocks.

It doesn't, I'm afraid. Water will repropogate itself should it be surrounded by 2 waters, as I'm sure you know.

While lava is technically the same code, it just won't work like that, or it'd be TOO EASY

  6. Yeah sorry about that, I must have misread majorly. Sombre#203 @Europe

Would love to get some games in with people! Trying to learn Terran, had some interesting games with Patters before. YOU MAY OR NOT NEED TO SEND ALL YOUR PEOPLE TO DEFEND MY BASE.

  7. I'd love to try this game, but everybody keeps telling me... "Buy Demon Souls, IT WILL RAPE YOU SO HARD AND YOU WILL LOVE IT!" that just makes me NOT want to buy the game...:hah:

How fair is it? Mega Man fair? Modern Ninja Gaiden fair (as in NOT fair at all)?

Do I need "I can beat Ikaruga blindfolded" skills?

If I keep insisting, will I eventually beat it?:erm:

It's fair. You're posting on here, so you know how games work. It's just being very patient, and not rushing. Some bits are rough, sure, but most of the game is fine.

  8. So I went up to the top of the mountain I initially entered my cave through. I had dug a huge shaft which posed a falling hazard, so I decided to plug the hole and tidy up a bit around it, chopping down trees and clearing out di-- kaboom[/i]! I exploded and died, and I don't know why... are there bombs in the mountain? Also I found a nice cliff face I intend to excavate for metals. First thing I did was build a little room with a door to hide from the scary monsters. Does time pass when you're out of the game?

I made a VERY basic guide for things like time and movement. It goes like:

    Clouds go north

    Sun rises in the east

    Sun sets in the west

Cartograph displays East as north (IE: Top of the map)

    Daytime: 9 minutes

    Sunset: 1m30

    Nighttime: 7m

    Sunrise: 1m30

  9. So I'm making a mine, and I've got a nice cache of rock, dirt, wood and various simple tools. However, as I'm digging my way around I'm uncovering other caves, and there are sounds. It's freaking me out. I guess I should start worrying about weapons and armor, but so far I haven't gotten anything resembling metal. I'm also afraid a monster will find its way into my cave – can they open doors?

Nope. Make a door, and seal up all holes. You'll be fine! Spam torches to detract them from spawning and you'll be cracking. You might have found metal and you just don't know it. It's stone blocks with yellow bits in it. Dump it in a forge for free steel/iron!

  10. The game world is much bigger than I thought. I read somewhere that it was 256x256 but I just dug a straight tunnel for what I estimate is about 500 blocks. I started close to my spawn which I assume to be in the center of the world. I dug, hardly coming across anything for that length, until the passage opened to a HUGE cave system at the other end. I had to run back after killing a few monsters though, they had almost got me even as I was wearing full iron armor.

After 6+ hours of playing, I still haven't found anything to heal myself with.
