"I think it's time to abandon scores all together, re-evaluate what the heck you're talking about, or just start being arbitrary" -IGN.com Thank you Jake!
  2. Half-Minute Hero

It's pretty sweet dude, I really like it. The further you get, the more shit you have to do. At the start, it's just "Kill a few mans, heal up, get more time and go do stuff", but later on it's like "DEstroy all the cannons so you can recruit a berserker who will change the way the boss fights" I think I'm at about 60/70% through "Hero mode" at the moment, and I'm kinda sad to see it end. In a weird way however, it's hard to play it in huge bursts, because it KIND OF drags over. I'll post thoughts on the other gametypes when I play them
  3. Half-Minute Hero

Only about 2/3 so far, but it varies, time is kinda relative in the game. I'll assume you've seen the Giantbomb video for the purpose of this post. Basically, I've been focusing on "Hero 30" which is the basic 8 bit RPG part of the game. While it is somewhat samey, there's some sort of charm to it which makes me unable to put it down. There's a number of different ways to beat each level, some even leading to new paths. For example: Early on in the "Campaign" (Level 3/4) you get a weapon which can one hit bugs, but not hit anything else. Now, when you get up to mission 8/9, there's a huge beetle, which is impossible to beat normally. However, because I took the chance to unlock the flyswatter, I could take a different path, and unlock new items for the later levels. Furthermore, I THINK I just had to undertake a moral choice, but they hid it in plain sight, for want of a better analogy. Basically, there's a crossroads where I could either go north, and recruit a cleric (Good) or go south, and align myself with a demon (Bad). Personally, I'm loving it, and I can see myself playing through the game(For once). I touched momentarily on "Princess 30" which is a take on dual joystick shooters, and "Evil Lord 30" which is a basic RTS. What's interesting is that there's a number of other gametypes yet, which I haven't unlocked yet. All in all, the fun factor does seem to keep coming, The writing is excellent, very self referencial, and it really urges me to keep on playing I hope I answered your question.
  4. Half-Minute Hero

Been playing it for most of the last few days, and it's excellent. Hero is probably my favourite style so far, just because it's actually quite divergent. There's a lot of different ways to go at things. I just did a level where I aligned myself with a demon, who I can only use 3 more times before he "Absorbs my soul". Pretty neat.
  5. Has anyone else played this, or is playing it? I just started it earlier tonight, and...wow. It's quite something. You just get dropped into the world and the game says "Hey just go". After a pretty neat character creation, I was immediately overwhelmed by how "Deep" the game seems, even off the get go. The first training mission is to simply kill 5 raptors in the mountains, using a sword and shield. However, it's only the start. The game has eleven weapon types, and you have to learn them all, from what I gather. Did I mention that the time limit on each mission is FIFTY MINUTES? I can see myself really getting into this, as it's just...incredibly intense and there seems to be just such a deeper "Game" behind what I can really see. Any other Monster Hunters here?
  6. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

I am kind of excited to get into it, but the sheer amount of things that it appears is possible is...just overwhelming. Cooking/Mercs/Guild ranks and such.. But, I'm quite excited to actually really get into it, it just looks all sorts of crazy fun.
  7. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it pal. I was leaning a bit more towards Gunlance, I really liked the way it played. Being able to defend well, good mobility, and a bit of ranged really appealed to me. Dual swords however were also quite good, but they seemed to need quite a degree of actual skill, in regards to TIMING the combo swings, as opposed to simply mashing buttons. I've just cleared the training, and those 2 definitely stick out to me as my clear favorites thus far. I just hired the cook, and I left my PSP on standby in the kitchen. However, combine that with the farm, and I didn't really feel like there was much explaination beyond "Hey, there's this thing you can go and do, okay go" What I'm liking in regards to what I'm hearing from the internet, is how the game seems to demand actual skill from the player. For the most part, it appears that the item and weapon upgrades play a minor role, at least in comparison to how you as the active player get better at the game. And Goddamn, it's about time I got that from a Video game.

  11. I found the following in the city. "Boost" the chocolate bar "Boost" the energy drink "Scoops" the ice cream store I'm coming close to having the weirdest meal of my life. Pictures forthcoming
  12. Comics

War of the Undead is good. Nazis versus classic horror monsters like Frankenstein/Dracula. It's very fun
  13. A further version was launched in the UK in 2002with a green wrapper: this contained guarana; was marketed alongside the biscuit Boost; and advertised with the slogan "Boost Guarana: One Step Ahead". I had one for lunch. They're good.

  15. I laughed so hard I dropped my ice-cream in the middle of the city centre. You owe me an icecream. Saying that, bring on Steve more. He's magical.
  16. RE5 PC giveaway

It's a "Bad dudes" related contest as far as I know. You have to take a picture of yourself eating a burger with the most famous person you can meet. Presidents are the highest scoring and then it works it's way down from higher social standing officials like famous doctors or lawyers, and works accordingly down the scale with "The crazy cat lady who lives on my street" being the lowest I should patent this shit
  17. Persona 4 Endurance Run

I don't think I hate him persay, he actually comes across as a pretty standup dude. I think it's his fanbase moreso than the man himself. The amoutn of times I have said on giantbomb something to the effect of "I don't agree with Jeff" and to have my inbox fill up is somewhat disheartening. That and sometimes he thinks he's a rapper
  18. Persona 4 Endurance Run

The game is good, but I hate Jeff Gerstmann, so I didn't watch much of it. After the 30th episode of "HAHAHA JAPANESE RPG GAMES GET IT, FOR JERKS AND GUYZ WHO LOVE ANIME", it just got old. Yeah, JRPGS are clichéd, we get it. If you haven't played it but watched the run, it kinda loses all its fidelity.
  19. Aaaaaah. And I just got to the point where I can make new pages, and thought I was dead clever and I could make a Jake page. I'll find my fame somewhere.
  20. I can't think of a place to say this, and I don't want to make a new thread, so I might aswell drop it here while I remember. While I was waiting for this weeks podcast, I was lurking Giantbomb, when I thought to myself, "Hey, Jake's credited as a game maker man, I wonder if he's actually on here?" After searching for him, I was presented with the familiar loveable Jake face I know. However, imagine my shock when I realised the top editor on the Jake Rodkin page was none other than the man himself, who added everything to the page himself! This made my day, and I thought I'd share it and hopefully make your days a little brighter too Thanks Jake for being awesome. PS: This is not at all another creepy "What is Jakes favourite food?" style statement.
