  1. Movie/TV recommendations

I've already linked it in this thread but it bears repeating, Videogum's review of Terminator Salvation is even better.
  2. Trine

minutiae –noun, plural Usually, minutiae. precise details; small or trifling matters: the minutiae of his craft.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

VIDEOGUM reviews TRANSFORMERS 2, and the results are predictably hilarious.
  4. the Universe and Everything

I have a hard time trusting anyone who would have you believe that they've got it all figured out. Also, I think it's OK to punch a dude when he rapes your politics.
  5. The skateboard/guitar/drums/vitality sensor/Natal rants fucking slayed me. Brought to mind this awesome Patton Oswalt bit: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM_xDjhkOU4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM_xDjhkOU4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  6. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    Mining a few out of my favorites... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB07C_QQiDo&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB07C_QQiDo&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ-heqpjPh4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ-heqpjPh4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Y6PchDYfw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Y6PchDYfw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  7. Trine

Indeed. And apparently, the PS3 version should be coming out sooner than I expected it to. Win/win.
  8. Trine

I don't think so. I'm sure it'll come out much later though.
  9. Dantes Inferno trailer

I agree with the consensus that this is a pretty ill-advised & cheesy concept from the get-go. And I especially hate the design of the protagonist as well. That said, it kind of looks like they're pushing the creature/world design towards Hieronymus Bosch and away from H.R. Giger - and if this ends up being the case, I will definitely have to play this fucking game.
  10. Trine

Played some of the demo this weekend. Tried 1st with a Sega Saturn gamepad only to realize gamepads will definitely require a second analog stick, so I went with WASD and totally felt everyone's frustration with the controls. To be fair - I think trying to play a 2D platformer with WASD is kinda begging to be frustrated - but I'm not a PC-centric guy, so what do I know? I thought the cut scene paintings were pretty ugly/amateurish (especially for a 40 dollar game - yikes!), but all the 3D stuff looked really great. Nice character models, animation and environments (in particular, the Wizard's telescope was pretty sweet!). It played well enough & all-in-all I'm hoping when the smoke clears I can buy it on PSN for 20 bucks and enjoy it from the couch on a bigger screen w/ a smooth framerate, etc... It's nice to want things, right?
  11. Fallout 3

Personally, I felt Operation Anchorage was fun (despite crits that it was too shootery) and has far and above the best loot. The Pitt was good - but, so far my least favorite of the DLC packs. I'm about 90% done with Point Lookout and I definitely like it the best.
  12. Edge of Twilight

I just found out about this during E3, and I can't stop thinking about it. Specifically this trailer and how totally great it is. I love the steampunk/fantasy mashup and oppressive/bleak tone. The character designs in the city scenes are also really well done and interesting, but shit you guys... the music. THE MUSIC IS AWESOME! It kicks in full blast around the 1:30 mark. Haunting and lovely with that throaty voiceover (also awesome) and slow-mo bloodsplosions. Very well cut trailer. I CAN'T SEEM TO EMBED THE NON-YOUTUBE VIDEO SO CLICK HERE, OK? I found some earlier videos on Youtube - this thing has come a loooong way in the polish dept. I also read somewhere that it wasn't shown more prominently at E3 because of some kind of uncertainty with their South Peak publishing deal (you'll note the trailer has no South Peak logo, even though the website does). Hoping this still makes it out this summer...
  13. Edge of Twilight

I know (and have known) a number of people throughout my life that share my interest in science fiction and fantasy, but are unable to embrace anything that breaks the suspension of disbelief membrane or doesn't sustain intellectual plausibility. I totally see the validity of this, but I'm the kind of person that still marvels at the gee-whizzery of stuff without feeling the need to understand the inner machinations of a thing to think it plausible. At least not in an escapist/fantastical context. It's kind of like film students criticizing things about films that never would have occurred to me. I find it more fun to retain some sense of wonder and not need to peek behind everthing's curtain to enjoy it or be immersed in what it represents. Still, I'll have to agree with you to an extent. Steampunk has unfortunatley seen an abundance of cheesy and creatively bankrupt interpretations (I blame the anime scene for the brunt of this). Thing is, I can't hold up one shining example of this "style" done perfectly right - I just see the potential for someone to pull it off. Kind of rambling, sorry...
  14. The king is dead!

I've got a strong suspicion that, once the details of his death are uncovered - there's gonna be some shennanigans involved. Not foul play/murder, so much as some kind of weird, cryo-immortality-gender-bending-experimental-black-market-organ-transplant type shit... We will see.
  15. Trine

Re: control problems... Are you guys using a keyboard/mouse, or a controller with a d-pad?
  16. Trine

It really warms my heart to see games like Trine, and to a similar degree, Shadow Complex still being made. I'm gonna get that demo this weekend!
  17. The king is dead!

Farrah Fawcet, Sky Saxon (of the Seeds) and Michael Jackson all in one day. How 'bout that shit? What did the woman at the beach say to Michael Jackson? What did Michael Jackson and WalMart have in common?
  18. Fallout 3

Your Fallout 3 CosPlay is ruggedly handsome?
  19. Max Payne 3

So, this is the team that made Bully, right? I wish they were making another Bully instead of another Max Payne.
  20. Fallout 3

Well I definitely have to agree with that. If the maps were better, the subway tunnels wouldn't be so frustrating and un-fun. Even exploring vaults can get tedious. I really hope New Vegas addresses the map thing, it's the only thing I strongly dislike about the game. ... Point Lookout is pretty awesome so far. I'm only about an hour into it but the area is pretty cool & the redneck mutants are creepy as hell. I wish there were more variations on them (I've seen 2 types so far - the same two seen in previews). You meet a character in the mansion that is easily my favorite character in all of Fallout 3.
  21. Fallout 3

Well then walk walk walk away my friend. You have my blessing. Oh, I understand it. How's your Fallout Cosplay coming along?
  22. Mass Effect 2

I'll take all the Mass Effect I can get. Sad to hear I can't keep my party from the first game (because Wrex was absolutely my favorite thing about the game) - but whatever, I played through the entire game twice and loved every second of it, warts and all. My frothing anticipation and all that...
  23. Fallout 3

I wouldn't worry about Broken Steel until a) you are about to reach level 20 (to raise the level cap and add perks) or you are getting close to the ending of the normal game (this is essential). The others can happen whenever, and as such can integrate into the overall game experience pretty seamlessly. You're aware that they're available, but not required to pursue them in any order. I can't imagine not fast traveling - the world is fucking huge.
  24. Edge of Twilight

Me too. Kuddles has some good points - to be sure, but I'm hoping for the best - as it's been in production for a while now. The trailer at least demonstrates (to me) that the team wants this to be pretty slick, and possesses high production values.
  25. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

    Hey Noyb - that's pretty fucking cool/clever/awesome.
