  1. Shadow Complex!

Did you do the inverted castle? I kinda lost interest at that point - but I sure did love everything before it. Also, Cave Story is coming to Wii (I know it's free on PC dummies - I wanna give the developers some dough, and I prefer this kind of game on the couch anyways), so that'll be fun too.
  2. Mass Effect 2

    You're a previous post!
  3. Mass Effect 2

    My question still stands.
  4. WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!

OOF! That artwork is something special.
  5. Mass Effect 2

So, let's get down to the nuts and bolts of this... Are you looking for someone to talk you into enjoying this game, or are you trying to talk people out of enjoying it?

    Holy shit!!!! New District 9 trailer is insanely awesome: <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjihaK7HfGs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjihaK7HfGs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
  7. More cut and paste!!!! I love that shit! Sometimes you just gotta say: "Fucka buncha seg" and paste paste paste! In managed doses - it's really fun and breaks things up nicely. $.02 deposited. Here's a funny other thing... I think the overall design of Bayonetta is all over the place, yes - but, from what I've seen the supernatural element kind of warrants/excuses that (to me, natch). Godhand's "anything goes" Cirque du Soleil by way of Alejandro Jodorowsky was way too fruity and scattershot to ever really pull me in. I guess that 4¢.
  8. Machinarium

Great call. Especially the color pallets.
  9. Machinarium

New trailer and pre-orders! Link to Offworld post I love the art style of this game, but especially how Terry Gilliam-esque the animations look. And everything looks so well put together and polished: contextual interfaces, etc... Who knew something so rusty could be so polished!!! Nyar!
  10. Mass Effect 2

Female Renegade was definitely the way to go. I LOVED the voice acting for the female Shepard - especially when she was being a cold, calculated bitch. On my first playthrough - I went as the default male Shepard - just to get a sense of what the game designers intended. I played him pretty middle of the road, asshole with a heart of gold, Han Solo style. I really really enjoyed it. But then, I made a vampy female protagonist and fucking loved it beyond measure. Definitely one of the most enjoyable game experiences of my lifetime. The character that I had created so perfectly fit the voice. Taste is subjective. This experience was meaningful and enjoyable to me beyond many of the games being held up as "better" or more innovative games. That's fine if you think that those are better, and I'm certainly not going to try to convince you otherwise.
  11. Awesome podcast... (only one episode so far)

    I like it!
  12. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    This is one of my favorite songs of all time: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS-ZOTVYu6U&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS-ZOTVYu6U&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Tokyo Gore Police recently became available on Netflix Watch it now. So did Machine Girl, which is by the same team - but (I've heard) not quite as good (I'll watch it this week and see for myself). Tokyo Gore Police is totally berserk, over-the-top, stylized, gory dystopian sci-fi B-movie trash in the vein of Takashi Miike or Shinya Tsukamoto (Tetsuo: The Iron Man). It's fucking ridiculous how gory and perverse this thing is - but not in that mean-spirited, torture porn (Saw, Hostel, etc...) kind of way because it's sense of humor is what propels it forward. It's social commentary (and there is a lot of it) can be a little clunky at times, but really acute at others. And as an added bonus, it stars Eihi Shiina (Audition), who is kind of a one-note actress (showing no emotion whatsoever) but VERY easy on the eyes. Rawr! Anyhoo - here's the totally NSFW, NSFKids, "Yes that chick has a dick for a nose" trailer: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy9TyMZvF3g&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy9TyMZvF3g&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> These guys have a new film coming soon called Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl which looks to be more of the same, and by that I mean "fucking awesome".
  14. iPhone/iTouch gaming

I think the following warrant mandatory purchases: -Edge (Just fucking get this one because it completely rules) -Fieldrunners (THE best tower defense game. Sooooo polished) -Textropolis (Addictive word game) -Zenonia (16-bit SNES-style action RPG) -iDracula-Undead Awakening (Smash TV-style w/ Werewolves & Vampires) If you wanna get some fun 99¢ games, these are well worth it: -Hero of Sparta -iShift -Heavy Mach -MustEatBirds -The Creeps
  15. Brütal Legend overload...!

Yeah the art team on this game is pretty terrific. I was a fan of Scott C.'s paintings even before I knew he worked at Double Fine. I guess I'd be hard pressed to think of anything Tim's done that didn't have kickass art.
  16. Books, books, books...

I have "World War Z" by Max Brooks and "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman sitting on my nightstand, but I've been super allergic to reading lately (read: playing Fallout 3 till way past my bed time). I read in spurts usually. One really good book will get my fired up enough to buy 6 new ones and read maybe 2 of them. I cant say I'm intellectually lazy, because the books I read are hardly intellectual pursuits - I guess I'm just lazy. I think the last book I finished was Harry Potter book 5. Ugh!

Dante 01 looks pretty sweet: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJqztPlR8Hw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJqztPlR8Hw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I'm stoked that Dominique Pinon is in both movies! Here's an embedded Micmacs trailer: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5BQkECKH0Y&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5BQkECKH0Y&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> These guys sure do love to wash everything in green or gold, don't they? I approve. I think the last thing they worked on together was Alien Ressurection, and well, I guess it figures that they haven't collaborated since. Did anyone play the City of Lost Children game? So sad that it turned out so poorly - I was incredibly let down by it.

For fans of Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, Amelie...) Check out the trailer for MICMACS!
  20. The Last Guardian

Good read. Thanks for posting that Kroms. Man! I really need to manage my expectations for the Last Guardian! I fear they're way too unreasonable/unrealistic. Reading that interview made me want to replay both games, but especially SoTC. Jesus H. Christ I love this guy's games!

  22. The Last Guardian

nice! Also, by the time this comes out, PS3 should be a bit cheaper & slimmer. Start saving now! Because, you know: BluRays. Also: Uncharted. Just sayin'. I really wish I could add "living room Hulu player" to that, but I can't anymore.
  23. The Last Guardian

I like to pretend that you really are the woman in your avatar picture when you say shit like that.

The male model gas fight is one of the single funniest scenes in a movie ever. The other funniest scenes ever: 1) the Borat nude wrestling sequence. 2) Ben Stiller crossing the bridge with the little boy on his back in Tropic Thunder.

Hey Scrobbs - thanks for embedding the short that 9 is based on, I'd never seen it! I've been looking forward to 9, mostly because of my love of Timur Bekmambetov's Russian film Night Watch (and to slightly lesser degrees: Day Watch and Wanted as well) - the guy has a great visual sense, and this collaboration with Tim Burton seems to be a great fit for them both. Add to that the wonderfully compelling source material and this thing looks (to me) to be firing on a cylinders. I hope I'm right!
