Idle Thumbs 45: Episode Forty-Five
Moelman replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
That's interesting you mention that. I didn't notice it when I actually saw the trailer for the first time, but when they overlaid sound clips from the trailer into the episode, I almost thought they were adding in made up sound effects that they just did themselves, but convinced myself otherwise. -
Mostly looking like a lunatic in public, but since I have become somewhat active on these forums I've really enjoyed interacting with you all. Wish I had known about the site years ago before it became a podcast. I've tried to get some of my friends to listen, but a lot of them just aren't "podcast people". I insisted on like everyone I know listening to Chris read the guy's complaint about FF XIII on suckbox, that still makes me laugh. You guys are all fuckin great. Also, Kroms, that really is amazing. I also somewhat aspire to be a "real" games journalist so it's neat to see that you can get inspiration from anything.

From what you guys and others have said, I'm really looking forward to playing it. My copy should arrive from Amazon tomorrow. I really enjoyed Halo 3 so sounds like this should be even better, and I think I'll have a lot more fun with firefight than other multiplayer modes.

I FINALLY beat Call of Duty 4. I played it mostly over the summer and got to the 2nd last level ( ) and just hit a brick wall, and hadn't played it for weeks. I was playing on hardened, and while it had been really hard before, it was by far the most difficult part of the game for me. I know this is lame, but I refused to lower the difficulty even after so many deaths on that part. I made it that far, I should have been able to do the whole thing. Anyways after a bunch of tries I finally got past it and was able to beat the last level shortly after. Probably one of the best FPS games I've played, and definitely one of the hardest.

Aw man! There's a sale on Play and I can't choose what to get!

Yeah, but I don't think you have to kill the dude (with your bullet at least), I just shot the car and it wrecked and he presumably died from that.I'm a big fan of Mirror's Edge despite all the flaws (combat, stupid cut scenes), I just think the running aspect of it was so well done. -
Another brilliant episode, I love me some hot scoops. I imagine this one was a bitch to edit but it was very well done. And I am very surprised to hear that the music that you used was actually from ODST, I figured it was some old adventure game or something.

This is what I had been hoping for as well, but I feel like it's not going to happen at this point. I know Reggie has said stuff about "we only want games on the DS that take advantage of it's unique features" (or something).I still have not redeemed my free 1,000 points. I had heard all the Art Style ones were good, but wasn't sure which would be the best so never went for any of them. I'll probably get PictoBits at your recommendation now, and dunno what else but might as well use my points as I've had one since nearly launch. Overall though, I think it's been an incredibly weak offering on DSiWare. Of course Nintendo likes to think they don't compete with Apple and the App store but people compare the two and even if there is a bunch of crap to sort through in the App store before you find the good stuff, there is such a better catalog of games. And now Sony is going to have the Minis which sounds like a similar service. So Nintendo better get their act together as DSiWare is by far the most disappointing thing about the system when it should have been it's best feature.

I would have been fine if that had been the game's ending and there was DLC that did not continue the story, and a sequel picked up where it left off, but it's ridiculous to have to pay an additional $10 to continue and finish a certain storyline. This is one of the best/worst examples of shit DLC IMO.

Grand Thumb Auto 11111: Let's Make a Thread for This!

Studying strikes again. Maybe I should just not say whether I'm going to be there or not from now on. -
The ending to that game was not a real ending, you were forced to buy the DLC if you wanted the real ending. I did not buy the DLC because I can't support that, but I still enjoyed the game very much.

Idle Thumbs 43: Jeff "Gone" Goldblum

Haha, that RE5 video is hilarious. You couldn't have found a better person's game to join. I saw the car self defense on your twitter before, but it's still hilarious. -
Yeah, I actually love both KotOR and TSL's soundtracks. I thought both composers suited the game they did.

I think I have unlocked everything except infinite rocket launchers. I have unlimited ammo on a magnum, sniper, and shotgun (triple-barreled one) so don't really need to bother getting unlimited on any other normal weapons. I think I have a few achievements left, I haven't upgraded every weapon, but not sure if I'll ever go back and finish that stuff. -
Haha, Kashyyyk was my favorite planet out of the ones where you search for the Star Maps. But I'm weird, most people also hate Taris but I would also say that is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Also, HD DVD was region-free.

Idle Thumbs 43: Jeff "Gone" Goldblum
Moelman replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
That might be the best Idle Thumbs DLC yet. Even though the Goldblum stuff was probably the funniest, I laughed quite loud at seeing JakeVideo Gam's exhibitor badge. -
I know I didn't word that in my other post very well, but putting aside the fact that it's my favorite game and just comparing the two objectively is what I meant.

Guess that just shows how long it's been since I've played; I made a similarly silly mistake in saying there were no non-human Sith in the game on the official swtor forums a while ago. I guess it was more apparent for me because I was much younger the last time I played KotOR, and Mass Effect is so much more recent that it doesn't show much progress when it's using the same flawed mechanic from 6 years ago.

That reminds me of what I forgot to put in my earlier post, this was the first cast I've listened to on my iPod in public since school started again and you guys had me laughing like an idiot getting odd looks from everyone I walked by. Jerks. -
In general I'd say I agree with you about the dialog, while in some cases Shepard didn't say exactly what I expected of him, it was still a better cinematic experience than reading the entire line of dialog before selecting it, and then not having any of your lines voiced. I like the combat better in KotOR, I felt like it was much easier to get party members to do what I wanted them to do by taking direct control of them and issuing several actions in the queue while paused, rather than giving orders in Mass Effect which usually resulted in both my squad mates dead within 5 seconds of an encounter starting. I think Chris also talks about this on one of the episodes where they talk about Mass Effect, so you should still listen to it. Not so much that I didn't like the action part of ME's combat - I was fine with it being more of a shooter. I also feel like KotOR was almost better with the good/evil system than Mass Effect. I feel like the paragon/renegade had almost no effect on gameplay as you pretty much decide how the game ends with where as in KotOR it seemed to be more of a culmination of the choices you made throughout the game. That said, it was still less transparent in ME, just seemed to be more pointless in the long run. Maybe if I played Mass Effect again as renegade it would seem better, I've played KotOR like 6 times so pretty much seen everything that game has to offer (except somehow I never got the "kiss Bastila" scene ).

Hahaha, Kroms that is awesome, saw it on the Facebook page earlier. Did you get a code for it?

I think the last bit of the episode was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Nice work. -
