Yeah, game developers are basically expendable because people who want to do it are a dime a dozen. If there's something you're not willing to put up with, there's always someone younger and more naïve who will, so you have no leverage to say no. (Of course, once they actually get in, that spirit will be crushed quickly, but by then they're in the same situation.) When I was in film school, there was a huge amount of focus on teaching us the union regulations and how big a deal it is if you require your crew to work even a few minutes longer than the scheduled work day. It was pretty jarring to go from that to an industry where people act like it's some kind of badge of honor to work 80-hour weeks with no additional compensation, and if you don't think that's a good deal, you just look like the lazy one.

Same here. Outside of work, I know literally no one on this side of the country other than my wife. There are a few people at work who I suppose I would consider friends, but we never hang out outside of work, and whenever we talk we pretty much just bitch about work. I don't really interact with people very much in general because of my social anxiety, and whenever I do get to the point where I feel like I can open up to somebody, I start to worry that they don't want me around because I bring them down by being such a grumpy miserable bastard all the time.

I'm tired of video games and, by extension, life.

Whenever somebody posts in the "Intoxicated:" thread and I read it on the new content page, my brain sees the colon at the end and wants there to be more stuff after it, so it ends up adding "with the madness, I'm in love with my sadness."

I have that sometimes, but more often it's just sexual thoughts randomly popping into my head while I'm interacting with the person, which is even more awkward. It's almost inevitable if I spend enough time with someone and find them even slightly attractive. I guess that is just me being a perv, but it's not like I'm doing it on purpose.

I looked at his Giant Bomb wiki page yesterday morning, then that quick look went up, then I looked at it again and somebody had added this fact: Recently learned that humans can't breathe in space due to the lack of air I live in the same town as Jeff and he is absolutely right; the pizza situation here is atrocious. I'd kill for some Domino's. Maybe bespoke artisan pizzas that are actually good exist somewhere, but you can't get them delivered in Petaluma, that's for sure.

My biggest pedantic bitchstorm of the moment is the hypercorrection of "x and me" to "x and I" even when that's not appropriate. I feel like when I was a kid, you would hear things like "Me and Jim Bob went to the store" all the time, and at some point, English teachers all over the country just decided, "fuck it; we'll just teach them to say 'Jim Bob and I' in every circumstance" so you end up with crap like, "Betty Sue went to the store with Jim Bob and I." NO! Jim Bob and you are the objects of the prepositional phrase, so your pronouns have to be in the objective case, GODDAMNIT! That, and the idea that a "run-on sentence" is just a sentence that somebody decides is too long, even if it's structurally correct.

That's just a compound sentence: two independent clauses linked by a conjunction. You don't need a semicolon, but not because "my run-ons push my boundaries" isn't an independent clause (it is). If you wanted to, you could omit the "but" and use a semicolon instead, but that wouldn't be a great idea in this case since it would make the meaning less clear (but it wouldn't be ungrammatical).
