  1. Jake, is that TF2 thing true? Because whenever I play soldier and there's a set up time, I shoot rockets at my feet until I run out of ammo while a medic heals me. All this time I thought I was being so helpful, but from what Chris was saying, it sounds like all the Medic has to do is run around and buff everyone and achieve the same effect.
  2. Office Pranks

It worked pretty awesome. I edited my co-worker's internet options before he got to work this morning. The sweet thing was that I put the CSS file on a network share so that I could edit it throughout the day. I started off simple by just making his text pink. He actually asked if it was "breast cancer awareness day or something." Later, I changed the font for all of his links to webdings. He called me and another dude into his office to show us. I easily shrugged this one off. Finally, I used the code I showed above proper. It was hilarious. It sets a picture of a phallic ring pop for the background image of the body of every HTML page, dead center. The way it worked was great. It was the very first thing to load when you'd visit a page, so you'd get a quick subliminal flash of a penis pop before the rest of the page contents covered it up. He caught on with that. He says, "I guess this is what I get for putting gay porn on Joey's desktop..."
  3. iSteam

Go here to sign up for the beta. http://store.steampowered.com/macbeta/ It asks some info about you're playing habits and for you to upload your system profile as a text document. Pretty straightforward, here's hopin'.
  4. Another Mario Thing

Whew, so its not just me. I thought my work's internet cock-blocker was getting more draconian. Is that what you're seeing? Oh, and the U R MR GAY thing, sheer coincidence, seriously. Or, maybe I'm a sucker for things that subliminally question my sexual orientation. Damn. Now I'm not sure.
  5. I did a COMMAND-F on the main index and started to type S.T.A.L.... I was dissappointed, but I'll listen anyway:grin:
  6. Nintendo 3DS

I'll admit, I'm one of those chaps that has scoffed at the idea that 3D is the next big thing. But this, I like this, a lot! 3D gaming on a personal device just seems so much more plausible than on something that you gather round in your living room. Hey, and no glasses! Just hope its not this: http://www.flickr.com/groups/62553512@N00/ For example, you'd turn the DS sideways and cross your eyes to see a single 3D display in the middle.
  7. Kid Gets Stabbed for Wallhacking

Amazing story. Its weird, I read about this on GAF yesterday, just a few short hours after seeing something similar on the Science channel. I had gotten up for work and gotten ready and took a quick snooze in front of my TV downstairs. I woke up to a story about a dude who fell on a frog hunting spear. Didn't know what it was from the name, but it looks like a pitch fork with straighter prongs. About 5 of them. Gross stuff, NSFL(unchtime) Dude showed up in an interview and you'd never know what he went through by looking at him. Completely amazing. This guy with the knife in his head. Same thing, utterly amazing. I'd like to have him recount what it felt like. I imagine it just feels like being hit very hard as there's not a lot of feeling in the skull area. Glad this happened after JT got disbarred.
  8. Garriott on the Moon

Oh yeah, well I own the Dark Side of the Moon. Really, on CD and LP. *BADUM PSSH* Oh, sorry, had to.
  9. Ah, I wouldn't write NMH2 off because of that. Naomi is a very small part of the game. Man I love that game, have I said that? (he he )
  10. Don't, I knew what it was in reference to also. I clicked the article and I think I finally understand the etymology of a certain racial slur. I'm not particularly fond of what happened to Dr. Naomi between No More Heroes 1 and 2. She went from pretty awesome to "look we've got boob physics". OK, its not like I was going to play that game in front of my family anyway, but jeeze, thats ridiculous. The NMH games have the unique ability to make reviewers say, "oh its commentary", and maybe it is, but that doesn't make it any less embarrassing.
  11. Wizaaaaaards!!

So, I spend my work life in AutoCAD Mechanical 09. Draftsmen represent! Anyway, this package is so damn bloated, there are still menu items that I have not yet discovered. Here is one that I recently came across. It was truly an emotional roller-coaster of promise followed by disappointment.
  12. Hey, could someone explain to Joe Six Pack here what you guys mean by games that have asymmetry/symmetry? Is this common industry lingo? I've never heard the terms used before. I also picked up on "bark" being used a few times, is that common vernacular for NPC responses, or just a phrase you guys settled on during this episode? Very good episode by the way. I especially loved the WoW story e-mail, that made me very happy.
  13. I was sad that there was no Idle Thumbs Periodical this year. Kinda forgot about that around when I heard: "brains, brains, brains, brains, brains, brains, brains, brains, brains..." Sweet 'nade
  14. Watching other people play games

It's like riding in the passenger seat of a car, sure, you can lock in on what the player/driver is doing, but you're also free to look out of the player/driver's tunnel of focus and enjoy the sweet parallax scrolling on the distant hills, or the attention to detail in that dude's hedge row. This is really just an oversimplification of what the OP has stated though, +rep for you. I've actually never really minded spectating games. I think its mainly because I was the mild mannered, "have-not" kid growing up, always sitting in the back of the room watching my cousins play all the latest games, quietly waiting for someone to generously offer me a controller. Nowadays, if I'm playing a game with a large enough group of people around, I'm actually pretty eager to give others a turn, especially if I feel that I have way more experience at a certain game.
  15. Portal ARG?

Well, yeah, pretty much, it seems the Source engine has been ported. So the Orange Box is going to be Mac as well as the L4Ds, but Portal 2 is going to be VALVe's first multi-platform release that is simultaneous on Win/Mac. Just a tiny little side note to all of the awesomeness that we've seen so far in regards to this very exciting sequel.
  16. iSteam

Exactly, its a huge cost. That's why recent mac ports are so darn expensive while their PC brethren are going for peanuts. I recently played around with demos for Bioshock and ToCA 3 on my laptop. Thats $100 for games that are at least 3 years old. Especially since these are both cider ports, I think. Why would I buy those when I could get both on steam for, if I recall correctly, under $30 total? I think this is what you're getting at Chris, great, the legwork has been done by VALVe, source is ported. VALVe can recoup their costs for that over time. Other devs/publishers aren't necessarily going to take that risk, not every game is a Source based first person game.
  17. Another Mario Thing

More importantly, how are Luigi's kebabs?
  18. This makes me sad that I was either not a listener yet or just hadn't figured out I could play TF2 when that was going on. I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled should anything like that ever start up again. By voice chat, are you referring to something like ventrillo as opposed to all talk? What are the pros/cons of using voice communication outside of the game?
  19. Hi, I'm suggesting Thumb Fortress Too, frankly, I'm astonished that it doesn't exist already. Perhaps we could declare war on the fans of some other podcast on the internet?
  20. Ubisoft DRM

I don't want to start a riot here, I'm asking for honest opinions with this, but how is this DRM scheme different from Steam's. Case in point, one day, for some reason, my work's internet cock blocker was mysteriously down, so I went nuts doing bad stuff I shouldn't do at work. I downloaded steam and installed Portal and worked on some of the medal challenges. A few days later, when I tried to launch Portal again, I found I couldn't because Steam was getting blocked and it desperately wanted to update itself. OK, fine, I can't update Steam, but that's also preventing me from launching Portal, at all. Isn't this sort of the same thing? I appreciate your answers as I'm a relative computer gaming newby. I stopped playing computer games around the time when you still had to boot into DOS to launch a game.
  21. Bwa-ha-ha-ha! Not what I had in mind, and frankly, a little gross if you think about it, but awesome none-the-less!
  22. So with the whole Activision / Infinity Ward thing blowing up, I've been thinking about how I'd love it if there were games depicting some of the game business stories that are recapped on the show. For instance, the current drama could be a Final Fight style brawler where, after receiving a pink slip, you and your buddy fight your way through hired goons up an office building to the executive suite so that you can quit before being fired. Games about making games, man that would be sweet. I'm gonna listen to older shows to find more. I'm sure there could be a rythm game about the release of rythm games. Release 'em too soon and the market over saturates and collapses, release 'em too far apart and, well actually, I don't know, I never bought one, so I guess you would win by just ever releasing one. Ha, kidding.
  23. Monster Hunter Tri Demo Available

Hello, just got back from my local gameschtop and picked up a free Monster Hunter Tri demo while picking up a cheap copy of Madworld. OK, its free if you don't count your time spent listening to the clerk's dutifully delivered pre-order spiel. I guess you could just pop in and grab one then leave. I'm in the states, don't know if there's anything like this demo in EU. Nice to see Capcom putting forth this effort, though. I'll post impressions of the demo in a bit if anyone's interested. I still don't think I'm very good at conveying such things though. On a side note, the dude at the store actually tried to get me to buy a used copy of Madworld for a whopping savings of $1.80. I don't blame the guy for doing his job, I just thought the whole situation was rather amusing.
  24. Bit.Trip series

Wow! Looks like they pulled that game off nicely. If you're really interested in that game, check out this podcast to listen to an interview with one of the devs. Its actually very entertaining. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2010/01/podcast_nlfm_episode_3_bittrip_down_memory_lane The episode starts off with the song "Pleather for Breakfast" from the No More Heroes soundtrack, I actually keep it on my iPod just for that. If you subscribe to the cast, the same feed gets you some nintendo release news but it also gets you this NLFM podcast, of which there are four so far. I think the 2nd one is 8bit christmas music and I forget what the first one was, but definitely also check out Episode 4 of that, its quite good.
  25. Monster Hunter Tri Demo Available

Yeah, this. Its a TON of camera work during battles. That said, I got used to it after a while. There's a reason this game is being bundled with a classic controller, with the wiimote and nun-chuck you are forced to keep your right thumb over the d-pad. Its not comfortable and made me pine for a lock on button. I switched to my classic controller and faired much better. The CCPro will be sweet! My thumbs crashed into each other more than a few times. The combat is a mixed bag for me so far. I can't figure out if I just suck or if certain types of fighters aren't meant for certain monsters. Some of the weapons take a century to swing and I ended up just getting mauled to death before getting a word in edgewise. The sword and shield guy that is selected by default doesn't have this problem, but then his attacks were so weak, I ran out of time while trying to beat the snot out of my target. I did manage to take one monster down with the medium cross bow girl, but with that one, its real hard to tell if my shots are doing anything, except for the occasional time that the beast would stumble. I'm still kind of lost as to the overall point of the game, I thought the demo would have some literature of what the game will be like, but nothing. There's just a foldout sheet with the widely varied and clunky character specific controls on them. The demo is like Monster Hunter 2 Di, just two monsters to hunt down. It looks great, but it just left so many questions, like what is the online aspect of all this? What do all of these items do? I could only read descriptions of the things that were in a box at camp before I added them to my loadout. I have no idea what the random bits I picked up off the ground and chopped off of fallen monsters were for. Oh well, thats all stuff I'll look into. The stuff that I played seemed clunky, but I could see myself being interested if there's a lot of depth to be found in the actual game.
