  1. Starcraft 2

Awesome, DeMuslim and Bling should be the favorites, don't recognize any other names there, apart from Lau maybe I've seen his stream before.
  2. Episode 173: Going Pro

For StarCraft I'd say watch a few of the big tournaments, they fly in all the top casters and you should get a good feel for them after watching a few. There is usually a big tournament each month or so with smaller ones in between. The GSLis in full swing these days with Tasteless and Artosis casting, can't go wrong with that. Otherwise you can monitor the TeamLiquid tournament forum, there's a calendar on the right and the top threads are very active for the current ongoing tournament.
  3. Starcraft II

I've thought about chess too, I find it mildly fascinating but you say online is weird? I thought there were millions of players online and it was all ELO ranked and you would always have similar skilled opponents, is that not the case?
  4. What's the best way to follow Twitter

Seconding list features. My Twitter feed is rather busy, some people tweet a lot and some people once a week and the slow tweeters tend to get lost. So I put everyone I follow into a twitter list. Friends, work, humor (comedians, fake accounts etc), music, science, sports, game press people (Giant bomb, Thumbs etc), games industry people (Molyneux, Carmack etc).
  5. VVVVVV 2.0!

So awesome, I had my stream running while playing, edit: link fixed
  6. Starcraft II

I find no game gives me adrenaline like the SC2 ladder. Most other 1v1 games have broken matchmaking because nobody plays the game anymore, the dudes who are still playing absolutely annihilate anyone who gives it a try. SC2 still has a huge number of players and always matches me against similarly skilled opponents, even though I'm in foreverBronze. Also what really helps is having a friend who you can share replays with and go over games, wins or losses.
  7. I can imagine it being disorienting, especially since the final blow is dealt right as I stall out and the plane does a good tumble. I would not have been there in the first place if I had been in a social vacuum so it's hard to quantify but I put in a lot of hours to be able to score a kill and it was a huge rush when I finally made it so yes I probably would have felt the same way. I was also pretty much alone in my endeavor, none of my friends played the game, YouTube and Facebook didn't exist yet and the only place that would have cared would have been the IL2 forums but a single kill wouldn't have made a big splash there.
  8. Interesting discussion, I can't agree more with Tom Chick than when he was describing games that are obviously not fun but keep you coming back, I have hundreds of hours in Tony Hawk, racing sims, flight sims and StarCraft only to show minute improvements. All those hours resulted in for example a total of one clean overtake of another human online ( , black car is me) and one clean kill in IL2-Sturmovik online ( ), I was nowhere near as good as 90% of those communities but these where huge achievements for me.Same with StarCraft 2, the matchmaking keeps me coming back, I don't think any RTS on the market today has enough players to match players of even skill almost 2 years after release, even in the lowest tier. I'm still in Bronze and loving it, always even games.
  9. Starcraft 2

I feel the conflict within you. Let go of your fear. The fear of loss is a path to the Dark Side. I always have goals other than victory, at least do one sweet drop or something with a cloaked unit, nothing more satisfying than catching a base without detection. Or be creative...
  10. Starcraft 2

The difference with StarCraft II I feel is the matchmaking. Is there another game that still has enough players 2 years after launch and still matches you with players of equal skill. I'm still having 40 minute games of full on panic mode and then I end up winning. That goes for team games as well, had a 40 minute close 2v2 game just yesterday. That's at least what keeps me going... love it.
  11. Starcraft 2

Anyone still playing the ladder? I've been on and off the ladder since launch, playing 2-3 games a week or so and still in bronze. However I did just find these beginner guide videos, and they're awesome: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=330787 He really lays it down simply and provides firm benchmarks to aim for. I really like his approach and am having more success on the ladder after following his guide.
  12. Mighty Switch Force! It's mighty good!

Another reason to look into Mighty Switch Force would be the soundtrack, I have never played the game but I go the soundtrack from the indie game music bundle and was blown away. Lead me to the composers site where I wound up buying a few more of his soundtracks. Really dig his style.
  13. Recently completed video games

What about Yakuza 1, have you played that? I keep hearing about the Yakuza games and am wondering if I need to play them. Would you recommend playing them all through?
  14. Plug your shit

I stream most of my gameplay so feel free to follow me here on twitch.tv (gameplay examples here: , Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex: HR , , )I also make feeble attempts at making video games, once in a while I'll get a concept going only to implode when it comes to design or mechanics, some examples .I sometimes also make music, examples here.
  15. G4ming Keyb0rdz

I have a Razer BlackWidow, it's mechanical and I love the feel of the keys. I do play StarCraft 2 quite a bit on it, feels good. No USB on it, I'm used to many layouts and switch between them without thinking so layout doesn't matter for me, and windows key is my friend!
  16. The new forums are really fast, is it running on new hardware? Or were they maybe always this fast, I'll admit I'm browsing them quite a bit more since the new version.
  17. Snazzy. Tell me Thumbs, what are your tricks to catch up and respond to threads you've participated in. The "New Content" seems like a good start and the "Go to first unread post" will be useful. Are those the Jesus features we've been waiting for? I've gotten used to some threaded discussion boards and this format seems harder to quickly scan. It doesn't matter though, quoted posts no longer have a broken image, which is all I've ever wanted in life.
  18. Dust 514

Same, I do not function well when I have to be present at a specific time and date for an op. I do get back into EVE maybe twice a year, do some missions, some mining in the background (RIP Hulk), level my dude, pimp my ships. It's fun. So far DUST looks very interesting, the shooter aspect of is not even the most interesting part, it's the persistence, the link to EVE and also the amount of modules and fittings you can put on your dudes seems to put MW and BF to shame. I'll be keeping an eye out on the beta feedback that must coming soon.
  19. I've had that happen. I got an ancient loaner laptop, played XCOM and Brood war on it, and it was glorious. Also got some use out of my 360 and PS3.
  20. My mind is already made up when I buy the game, I too have a huge backlog and made myself stop buying games on release a long time a go. When I finally do buy games I have months of podcasts and forums opinions to go by. It's been years since stopped playing a game because it's just a turd game. Last game started that I didn't finish was Condemned 2 but that was because of a save game wipe bug
  21. Shooty games with many bullets

That game indeed looks great, I will be keeping an eye out, do you know which platforms it's out on? Joystiq said 360 it least. What's the best way to get into these, I find the videos of these crazy shumps fascinating, I've been watching Ikaruga high scores and then there is the guy who plays 2 player Ikaruga by himself making it look easy. I tried Ikaruga and have problems clearing the first stage and I tried Radiant Silvergun and that's just lol no way. Is it just a matter of grinding until the enemy patterns are in your head?
  22. Deus Ex 3

What difficulty did you play on?
  23. Deus Ex 3

Hah yea Just finished the game yesterday, found that as well. Did you also read the emails in the police station, to Alex Murphy talking about among other things Officer Lewis. In case you missed it:
  24. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

That developer interview is very interesting. They're promising an awful lot, I hope they deliver. There are some seemingly in game graphics there and it looks pretty good. Psyched!
  25. 0x10c -- Next little number from Mojang

I saw on reddit that Notch is abandoning the "hard sci-fi" theme. What does he mean by that? Here's what he's stated previously: I for one was super interested in just that aspect, space games tend to be arcady, would have liked some real physics limitations involved... I would probably accept a few bad gameplay mechanics if they were grounded in science and physics. The game will probably be interesting though even if it's not what I had hoped.
