  1. Oh man, if we're putting Spotify in the equation, then boot it up and slap on Soundway's awesome compilation Nigeria Disco Funk Special: The Sound of The Underground Lagos Dancefloor 1974-1979. That stuff is all kinds of groovy.

I'm actually quite serious. It's a great album, and would definitely work in a party atmosphere. Depending on the guests, obviously. And there are always some good compilations on Spotify, like Kraftwerk's The Mix. Very low maintenance. Slap it on and chug booze for the next hour or so.

  2. Haha, that was excellent :)

Did the green blip for the crooks team actually follow the boat around, or did it stay at the dock?

I think it followed you around. I was quite far off, deciding to swim all the way there after we'd split up, so I didn't exactly see where the blip was. It was just off in the distance, somewhere...

  3. I know that Left 4 Thumbs is a PC-based institution, but are any Thumbers going to get this on console? I don't have a good enough PC set up, and I know hardly any people who would get it on 360. This is the reason I missed out on the first game last year, dammit.

  4. Not out until the 20th for us in Europe, and I'm not sure if I can spare the cash, but my word, I had so much fun playing this. I was at an all-purpose Nintendo Winter preview event, and the assembled cynical journos were making excuses in order to play more NSMB Wii. It's truly joyous. I just need some pals...

  5. I'm pretty certain that he knows about it. I think he might have even retweeted it when it was rediscovered a few months ago.

Depends on your definition of 'wheeled out', really - I'm sure if you went up to him (or someone who looked like him) with that video playing on your phone, or with a screenshot plastered on your chest, you might get a reaction!

Yeah, as Nachimir said, he looks more like the picture on wikipedia now.

Aside: Phonogram rules! Although the latest issue was supposed to be out today, but got recalled because the barcode was printed incorrectly. Gutted.

  6. I went on a date the other night with a cute girl who does martial arts, rides a motorbike, and enjoys programming. It feels like something out of a Scott Pilgrim comic ¬¬

    :yep: Hope it went well!

My life has been pretty dreary and stressful of late. Currently everything is overshadowed by the first assignment for my MA being in on Friday.

I did, however, have a funny Thumbs-in-RL moment, at the Modern Warfare 2 Launch. I was pretty bored, and was writing up my article about it in the cloakroom area, which was well-lit and quite quiet. It was also near the bathroom, so a very drunk guy who worked in game security came over to me, and tried to spill all sorts of beans at me - inside secrets about leaks and the like. Then at the end, he paused, let out a cackle, and said:

'You're looking for hot scoops! Near the toilets!'

    He could be a listener!

  7. I have it. I've not played much of it yet.

I must be on the level before the airport sequence. I find it quite interesting that there is a menu that pops up when you first start the game, telling you that there will be a 'potentially offensive' stage in the single player mode, and it gives you the opportunity to be reminded that you can skip it. So they're definitely aware that it is a potentialy-offensive sequence, and have on some level admitted that it is not an integral part of the experience.

I've read at least one piece, however, that stresses that it is important to how the CoD games are showing to a younger generation that war is hellish. Not sure I entirely agree with their reasoning, but an interesting take nonetheless.

I have played some of the multiplayer, too. I think the level-up, micro-achievements system they have is a work of compelling genius. But it's quite a joyless (relatively similar to CoD4 and 5) slog, for the most part. And the little WWE-macho chugging guitar riffs they throw in when you level up make me feel embarrassed.

(I also attended the huge UK launch for it, which was absurd and OTT beyond anyone's sense of taste. Quite fitting, I suppose.)

  8. I remember seeing a late episode in isolation, and being completely lost. I'd been an X-Files fanatic for the first handful of seasons, then dropped off, just to watch an episode where

CSM gets exploded by a missile

    .

Actually, that seems to be the finale of the final season, so no wonder I was confused.

  9. Sorry guys, I'm not going to be there. Due to a frustrating clusterfuck of a day, full of cancellations and let-downs, I had to come back home early with my friend-guest. I hope it's fun, and full of wizard hats.

Also, apologies to Nachimir for booking a ticket for the Show & Yell and not turning up. I am a douche.

  10. Oh my god this queue is full of terrible fucking people.

I might have seen you in the queue, actually, way back beyond the sea of mostly 16-35 year old males.

In other news, I played some Dante's Inferno, in which King Minos had been turned into a huge serpent creature, with a baby army!

Now to... Do something other than hang around the food area.

  11. Looking forward to this, although I'll be missing The Actual Meet.

Do those that are going to the Eurogamer Expo on the Friday have any designated areas they'll be manning or hanging around? I'm going to be roving, looking like my avatar (but bearded, and ravaged by age), probably wearing a bright red Vertigo t-shirt.
