  1. Killzone 2

I suppose I am trolling, I spent hours doing it on 4chan's /v/ to much amusement and I'm so used to ripping on it that I do it everywhere I go. I like Killzone 2, but I'm not joking when I say Black is more accomplished in the gameplay department. Then again, I do adore Black. When it came out it had the tech and the gameplay. Now all that remains is the solid, perfectly paced shooting designed for consoles and it works so brilliantly. Killzone 2 attempts to be just that, and falters somewhat in comparison. I don't not like Killzone 2 Cigol, I just hate the way everyone, including the critics, appears to have had the smokescreen of awesome graphics pulled over their eyes to fool them into enjoying themselves more than they really are.
  2. PC Geeks only. [Empire: Total War thread]

Anyone else think this would just be an awesome love in for PC nerds and not about a game they're not massively excited about? No?
  3. Killzone 2

I played me some Black yesterday, first time in a year or so. It's like if Killzone 2 was fun to play.
  4. Killzone 2

Killzone 2 is helplessly inferior to the mighty Call of Duty 4, though.
  5. I would get it, if I were you. I'm me, and I'm definitely getting it, if only so I can troll people who like it on /v/.
  6. Soupface: I know you're ideally looking for a response from one of the Thumbs guys, but I would like to take a swing at this and say that, from my experience, someone coming into it fresh would probably think of it as a slightly awkward, yet moderately enjoyable, action game.

"On harder difficulty settings, this game can be tough." - IGN.com "I got owned harder by the final boss than EGM did by Hearst!" -IGN.com "This game is like chewing glass coated in mercury, but in a good way!" - IGN.com

"This game is like drop-kicking a midget in the back of the head!" - IGN.com "This game reminds me of something really awesome!" - IGN.com
  9. Killzone 2

Here's a summary of impressions I posted on another forum, I realised that a few of them were similar to that which Remo spouted (even stole the Thumbs crew's description of the squadmates, great way of putting it): Some of those are almost directly what was said in the last podcast, but I totally see where they're coming from on many counts. That's what annoyed me with MGS4, they did such a good job with gameplay then pissed it all away after the halfway point.
  10. Killzone 2

I really wanted to adjust the zoomed view separately from the normal look sensitivity, but lo, it was not to be. Also: Mr Stabby, excellent.
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

olol wrong thread for previous post. Anyway, I saw Crank last week and it just exudes pure liquid fucking awesome. Were IGN.com to exclaim it had blown me away, I'd be inclined to agree. "Crank exudes pure liquid awesome!" - IGN.com
  12. Killzone 2

Not mindblowing. I anticipated that to be honest, but it's solid and looks to be shaping up a decent 7/10.
  13. Movie/TV recommendations

If you don't already own some Rachmaninov and Chopin, I implore you to seek some out. I got a couple of de-facto "Best Of"s for a tenner a while back in HMV and they're both brilliant composers.
  14. (IGN.com)

lol'd hard at both of these. Jolly good show, Sir.
  15. (IGN.com)

Every time I read these I imagine them in Remo's "quoting" voice, it's just not the same otherwise. "This game will stuff your sister through a meat grinder and force feed her to wolverines!" - IGN.com
  16. (IGN.com)

"This game will curb stomp your mother!" - IGN.com "This game is so hardcore that its pips are diamonds!" - IGN.com "This game will rape you in half and stuff you through a mailbox!" - IGN.com "Ever wondered what it would be like to stick a gun-mounted chainsaw up an alien's anus? This game is so that!" - IGN.com "This game has exploding faces! 10.0/10!" - IGN.com Amidoingitrite?
  17. Long but interesting article on how to break into game design. I'm fairly sure there was a bit on one of the Thumbs episodes when he talked about it. Anyway, here's the linky: http://www.edge-online.com/blogs/how-break-game-design-with-zero-experience
  18. Steve Gaynor writes for Edge

I applied to freelance for them, but they didn't reply. I want to end up as a staffer on the magazine, but I need to get a break into games journalism first
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

I love a well made documentary, and I was thinking of seeking Man on Wire out because I missed its run at the pictures. I'll pop it on my LoveFilm list, thanks for inadvertently reminding me to do so
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

I started watching The Godfather Part II, then realised I had better not bother because I have an exam tomorrow. I proceeded to check out some Enslaved and I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised, never really liked any Black Metal except Emperor.
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

No, I saw it when it pre-success and public buzz and felt the same way.
  22. Pigeons

I realised I was an idiot for mentioning the cold weather just after I pressed submit Anyway, it's too late, I'm already going to Aberdeen to do Politics and International Relations this Autumn. You never know, I might end up in Finland next year, there's an exchange program on that course as well and I'm definitely thinking about Scandinavia (although you may not consider Finland a part of it), mostly because every Norwegian, Finn, Swede and Dane I've talked to online was incredibly articulate and obliging.
  23. Pigeons

I love it every time I'm there, I'm basically just going by the old football stereotype (being an Aberdeen fan also requires that you hate the Old Firm). It's actually colder up here than in Glasgow, and there's a lot less to do. For that reason I considered applying for Glasgow University, but we're too poor for me to move away right now A lot of people say they like Edinburgh better, but to be honest it's a bit too up its own arse for my liking. And wow, n0wak's great as well. It looks very, very professional. Then again, I can hardly judge, given my skill with a camera is infact in the negative.
  24. Pigeons

That pigeon looks like it's wearing a brain on its nose.
  25. A Prince of Persia?

The PC sales of the game are likely far below console, that's probably half the reason. Obviously, the fear that the DLC would make its way around the Torrents within seconds of release is another biggie.
