It looks alright and the demo was surprisingly decent, but I don't know where all these (post-embargo, non-corrupt) 9s and above are coming from. It's crazy. I'm going to get it out of curiosity more than anything else.
-
I'm almost glad my 360's still broken, I'd be fucking balls deep in XBLA stuff right now and I've got about fifteen PC games to play.
-
Oh, actually, does anybody know where the parody demake that he mentioned can be found?
-
I don't want to play it having read Nutt's article. Natural reaction. Also, his political views apparently have influenced the world. Not the anti-gay stuff, but the "I hate lefties" stuff. I don't want to have to sit through some veiled fucking right-wing propaganda to play a pretty good looking Castroid! I'd feel like a traitor. Like it was mentioned, why the fuck did they need to potentially ruin this for some by bringing on board a nutter like this when it looks like every other action game ever ever ever? Hey thanks for ruining Earthworm Jim for me I investigated and it turns out he's some kind of horrible extremist anti-abortion gay-hater who shits all over people he disagrees with for little or no good reason.

Wow, looks like I'm the only one who had (and am still having) an awesome experience with that game. I saw a mountain range in the distance and drove all the way to it and to the top of the massive central peak, discovering a weird base and radar dish at the top. Then I shot down the side on a motorbike and watched the weather and colours radically shift about six times before reaching the immense valley at the foot of the range. I'll admit that early on it's pretty slow, but as you get faster vehicles and just venture into the world it can be incredible. Depends how much you're willing to put in for that payoff I guess. I just seem to discover an amazing new environment and terrain every time I play it, and though I accept the central conceit is almost inherently flawed, the ambition has borne some pretty sweet fruit for some of us. And don't worry, I'm not going to rag on anyone for only playing the demo, after all, they're a viable way of judging games. I'm usually at the wrong end of that stick and it's not pleasant. [Also, Asobo, who developed Fuel, were also behind the amazing multiplayer game Super Farm for PS2.]
-
I disagree with Chris' opinion of Fuel. I think he's being a bit of a whore's baby. Is that right?
-
Yeah, I know, there seemed plenty of scope for additional abilities, but I never got the feeling they'd make too much of a difference or be particularly distinct from each other. You know, it's either hide or fight, and fighting was pretty inevitable anyway.

I had an awesome idea for an adventure game the other day, so I downloaded Adventure Game Studio, installed it, stared in confusion at the interface and closed the program. "Maybe I'll just write a script" I thought. I opened wordpad and realised I had forgotten what the initial concept was. Then I just played someone else's game.

I played it at Edinburgh Interactive last week. If you can be bothered and don't mind me plugging my shit, then follow this link immediately. For those less inclined (and I can't say I blame you), basically it was enjoyable and polished, but I can't see it having lasting appeal for anyone over the age of maybe ten. It's too simplistic to satisfy over the course of a full game based on what I managed to get through.

I've got cheap 2.1 sound, but everything seems fine. During the memory sequences the sound is a little louder than everything else, but other than that I haven't noticed anything wrong.
-
I'm playing it on PC and it runs fine. Using my wired 360 pad.
-
So I'm currently eating my hat having already eaten it and shat it out. Got Prototype off D2D when it was discounted because I had a minor operation the other day and decided I deserved a wee present. About three hours in and it's bloody great fun so far. It's not an 8 or 9 by any means, but there's a surprising amount of variety behind that bland exterior.

Some sweet news. Beneath a Steel Sky, officially the most awesome shit in the history of everything, is getting revamped! And Dave Gibbons is doing some art! It should be amazing! And then you read it has a "context sensitive help system". Well, OK I guess, probably don't have to let it intrude. And then you read it's for iPhone. http://www.revolution.co.uk/_display.php?id=93

"As a fan of G.I. Joe, I expect a Video game version to make me feel like a Real American Hero. This didn't come close. The gameplay is unexciting and the visuals uninspired. There are moments when I found myself enjoying G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but those moments didn't last long. I wish I could give this a "Yo Joe!" but all I can manage is a "Yay, I'm done with this." - 5.8" - IGN.com Fuck me, I could have diahorrea'd on the floor and scraped it randomly with my fingers and come up with a more interesting, flowing concluding paragraph.

Idle News Podblast - 08/01/09: Surprise
gdf replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Wow Jake, you really love donkey cock. And dwarf cock. And donkeys fucking dwarves. With their cocks. This was pretty hilarious. -
By being an unfunny prick.

That's how I experienced BaSS, went through it in a day or two last Christmas when they put it on there and I shat my pants with how good it was. This, on the other hand, blows.

I think all my friends might be massive rotten cunts.

I've just bought a netbook, and Chrome is fucking awesome on it. Its pop-up blocker is magical and it's so lightweight and fast on the little machine, plus there's obviously that wee bit more space on the mini screen. I prefer Firefox on the "real" computer, all those add-ons, no need for more screen space and it's wired to the router, so is faster anyway.
-
I'm the same. They always look amazing, then I play them for about five minutes, don't understand anything and exit to Windows like
-
This is not necessarily an advantage for all. Yeah, I enjoyed buggering about with my online buddies in Halo, Call of Duty and Gears, but I always have and will be a single-player man. Unless it's in a real-life social setting - effectively local multiplayer, the opportunity for which doesn't arise as often as I'd like - I want to play games solo. I don't want my gaming to be an open event, I just want my chair and a fuck-off gaming rig. It's my thing, my special hobby, my quiet time, my space to do as I please. Nobody can disturb me on PC, but as soon as I log on to Xbox Live (and to a lesser extent PSN), I get flooded with invites and people bugging me about multiplayer for whatever shooter I just bought on PC instead. Even multiplayer on PC is a largely solitary experience. You're on your own even in a team. You find your role and you fucking well do it, otherwise you won't last. Plus, in general, the communities are more mature. Lack of voice chat in general means nobody can call my mum gay, and text insults are much easier to ignore than a little kid screaming it repeatedly in your ear. A dark room lit only by the monitor glow and blue LEDs in the case is the perfect setting for gaming. Serious business indeed. tl;dr, basically, in my opinion single-player > multiplayer.

I think Wii shooters are meant to make up for accuracy and comfort in control with the novelty of actually holding something like a gun. I haven't played any, because apparently none have yet entirely succeeded, but I'm cautiously optimistic for Red Steel 2 based on the aesthetic and conceit. Maybe they should just release it on PC with super high def visuals.

I think I'll be at Leeds, pending accommodation and travel arrangements.

I was thinking about that the other day, eljay. I came up with a kind of keyboard/controller hybrid. It's a lump of ergonomically designed plastic that still sits on a desk, and you still put your hand on top of it, but it's obviously convenient to use. Buttons are laid out like the PC, so there's still Ctrl and Shift, ERFG etc., but WASD is laid out in a nice way with softer keys, and you can rock the unit side-to-side to lean. Sort of in the shape of a mouse, but a bit bigger and with more buttons. Hard to explain, and I don't have any artistic talent so I can't draw it.
