Bah. Bah, I say! The incongruity between the hard-boiled detective tropes and the high school setting is the whole appeal of Brick. You may find it goofy, but the fact that those two worlds don't quite fit together is what makes it that more enjoyable.

Yes, you must see Brick. Brick is amazing. And now I must see Assassination of a High School President, apparently.

Idle Thumbs 45: Episode Forty-Five
Horticulture Tycoon replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Regardless of whether the character is beautiful or not, regardless of how beautiful women are "supposed to behave" (the implications of that statement are best left unexplored, I think...), it's preposterous to the extreme to suggest that Subject Zero is somehow breaking the mold by being a "badass female character". Every female character in every Video game is basically an honorary boy in all respects, because actual honest-to-God femininity is in fact far more threatening to 13-year-old boys than a chick with a flamethrower. If the next Tomb Raider game revealed that Lara Croft was actually a post-op transexual the whole time, I'm not sure I'd be all that surprised. -

So aliens don't require you to suspend your disbelief, but beautiful women do? You're revealing quite a bit about yourself, my friend... -

If you like Tom Waits, I highly recommend Man Man, they're like six Tom Waits's all in one band, but crazier and more high-energy: JaeCiy2pHmI tUPEByiaT_E Also, I actually paid money for an Electric Six show, but I walked out before they took the stage because I was only there to see the opening band (Bang Camaro, of Rock Band fame). Electric Six is way too disco for my tastes... -
My favorite is when a guest gets up and tries to leave immediately after the interview is over, and the host has to physically stop them so it doesn't look like the guy is so eager to get the hell out of there. Oh, and speaking as a fan of both The Roots and Tim Schafer, I fucking love this picture: Either Questlove is way larger than I thought, or Tim Schafer is way smaller.

Anyone would be better than Jimmy Fallon, really. "Late Night with Some Chimpanzee." Tim seemed fine to me, aside from seeming unsure about talk show protocol. You can see him sort of thinking "Should I set down,or do I have to wait for the host to sit? What are the rules here?"

I have read all of those stories, unfortunately. When I was a kid I was super into Star Wars, and reading every Expanded Universe novel (not Extended Universe btw) just seemed like part of the deal. The sad thing is, now at age 30, I still remember almost all of it. It's the kind of information that will never go away. For example, did you know that Ponda Baba (the thing that picks a fight with Luke in the Cantina and gets his arm sliced off) and Dr. Everzan (the pig-nosed "He doesn't like you" guy) later exchanged bodies in a Dr. Frankenstein-like experiment? It's true. You really want a glimpse into the horrors of the Star Wars Expanded Universe? Behold...

Definitely the best episode so far, due in large part to the noticable absence of jungle mazes. I must be in the minority, but I don't find Murray's "evil!!!" schtick all that funny. I really thought what made that character work so well in CMI was the kind of sheepish insecurity that would occasionally seep out from beneath all his boasting. To me, "I'm sorry, it's been a tough day" was his funniest line in that game. Sadly, that aspect of his character isn't really on display here. But whatever, it was still nice to see him, and it still beats his EMI cameo by leaps and bounds. Also I want to echo the praise for the puzzle design. I was never stuck, never at a loss for what to do next, but yet it never felt too easy.

Ah, Star Wars... Is there no background character your universe won't obsessively create an elaborate backstory for? -
Same here, I couldn't get over the finish line either. I learned from making my own track that, while using custom camera angles is fun, if you stray too far from the 2D perspective it becomes way too disorienting, because the controls don't change with the perspective change. Left is still lean back and right is still lean forward, but you instinctively want to press up and down. You might be able to get away with it, but you'd have to go out of your way to design a track that doesn't require you to shift your weight much. Your other track was pretty good though.

Yes, because as we all know, being the world's greatest detective gives you X-ray vision.

Idle Thumbs 43: Jeff "Gone" Goldblum
Horticulture Tycoon replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I suspect it's easier for people in North America to tell Nick and Jake apart than for people overseas. Like that caller from Detroit said, Nick's has a distinctly Midwestern accent, whereas I don't know where Jake is from originally but I'd guess somewhere on the West Coast. But to someone overseas, I'm sure it all sounds like the same generic American accent. -

G20 - Police use tear gas,, sound cannons
Horticulture Tycoon replied to Scrobbs's topic in Idle Banter
I think this is probably a simple case of city officials not accustomed to being on the world stage being paranoid about the security of its visiting world leaders. I wouldn't read into it too much more than that. EDIT: To be clear, I'm not trying to excuse the police response, it's clearly an overreaction. But I think it's a function of the summit being held in a craphole like Pittsburgh, a city that isn't particularly prepared for this sort of thing, as opposed to being a sign of some sort of sinister trend. -
Not one conversation tree? Fuck this demo. In all seriousness, you guys aren't missing all that much. It's the game's tutorial, I blew through the thing in about 10 minutes. The menu is pretty sweet though. And are those Tim's hands?

I can't believe Chris would be stunned that anyone could be a huge Jeff Goldblum fan. I'm stunned whenever I meet someone who's not a huge Jeff Goldblum fan. Jeff Goldblum is awesome. bKnHdICifuw a2CV5R2mMuc -
Agreed, I was worried about the drums being dull, but somehow they're not, despite being (mostly) pretty easy. I think Ringo's left-handedness helps keep things interesting. That guy really had a wacky style of drumming.
