  1. Comics

I read a one-shot comic Marvel did where the Punisher teamed up with Eminem (yes...the one you're thinking of). It was made because he has a new album coming out. Would you believe it was fucking terrible?
  2. Would the next-gen sequel by Joshua 64? Yes. Yes it would. I'm still anxiously awaiting Jesus HD
  3. Brütal Legend overload...!

Oh man, I love it when you guys say super British things (it's the best!) The above sounds like a 1973 Kinks lyric...or one of the fake commercials from The Who Sell Out
  4. More hits from the Borderlands forum: The main guy doing the review said "you know" more frequently than a professional athlete in a post game interview. I don't even really care how good or bad they said the game was. It hurt my brain to listen to it. I couldn't even make it to the AI part. Now this is me (GrouchoClub) writing: It's weird that those guys who don't listen regularly think you're trying to do a review. I don't think I've ever heard anything on the Thumbs podcast that I'd call a review. And, please, let's keep it that way.
  5. So Axel & Pixel is out...

Any game sounds lame when you break it down to its most banal characteristics.
  6. Life

He did object to a math problem on his homework one time, instead writing in a note that said it was against his religion .
  7. (IGN.com)

From the same site: "WET is a new game from developer Artificial Mind & Movement, it is a heart-pounding, adrenaline-pumping, double fisting action adventure romp." DOUBLE WHAT???? ================================ "The game makers put you inside Rubi Malone the hottest gamer girl, better then Lara Croft from the game Tomb Raider but not hotter then Angelina Jolie who played Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider Movies. Rubi Malone is voiced by Eliza Dushku who is so hot, when I play WET I think about Eliza Dushku, because she is so hot." This website is AWESOME.
  8. Life

    It was worth it.
  9. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I've been mostly listening to my collection of 45s lately. Highly recommended singles and b-sides: "The Shape of Things to Come" - Max Frost and the Troopers "The Hurt Won't Go Away" - Lori Burton "Friday's Child" - Nancy Sinatra "I Don't Wanna Dance" - The Simpson Sisters
  10. freeware + gamepad

Another thread where I ask for advice/suggestions (sorry). I recently got the madcatz fightpad (it's pretty, it has Ken from SF on it) and I found out I can also plug it into my computer. What are some good freeware/indie games I can play with a gamepad? So far I've discovered that this is possible with Cave Story and You Found the Grappling Hook. Note: the game has a d-pad (which can function as an analog stick) and no thumbsticks, so twin-stick shooters are out of the question.
  11. Comics

Yeah, so, since I've quickly found myself becoming a complete Marvel fanboy...I've subscribed to their digital comics collection. I'm starting to make my way through the Incredible Hulk, starting all the way back with the first issue in 1962. These old comics crack me up. I like the habit they have of explaining, with the dialogue, things that should be apparent in the pictures: "I've just shot you in the shoulder, and yet, you keep advancing. You must be impervious to bullets." "The Missile is destroyed, but I have landed at my destination safely."
  12. Movie/TV recommendations

With the kind of money that's invested in Hollywood movies, it's certainly understandable that they don't want to take risks.
  13. Recently completed video games

Just finished Pixel Man, an extremely minimalist platformer on XBLA indie games. The last level was just the word "Yay!" spelled out in the same gray blocks that are used for platforms with an exit...and then a black screen says..."you are win" I don't know what I expected, but it was really disappointing. It's a pretty decent game, though...check out the demo. If you're really into platformers, like I am, you'll be interested just because it's the most stripped down interpretation of the genre I've ever seen.
  14. PSP

Does anyone own a PSP? Is it worth it? I kind of want to get one...especially if I can score a used one really cheap.
  15. Comics

Also, in Ulitmate Spider-Man, Mary Jane is way too sexualized and it's weird.
  16. Help Edmund McMillen (if you want to)

Um. I guess that's correct. There's also a big difference between balloons and fish.
  17. Comics

One thing about Ultimate Spider-Man is that there's a lot of stale pop culture references. One of the employees of the Daily Bugle says "this story has more holes than the plot of a Michael Bay movie." And Kraven the Hunter is a reality tv star in the ultimate continuity; he's like a parody of Steve Urwin. That concept was probably pretty interesting back in 2001, when the story was written and reality tv was a hot topic for social commentary, but now it's more like when I was reading Don Delillo's White Noise and thinking, "this is so dated. I barely know anyone who even watches much tv."
  18. Odious Tea

It's funny to see a British person use the word bugger in a context like this, because: double entendre .
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

I thought the moment when the end-credit song kicked in was really cool in Brick (I won't say what song it was, because I think that should be a surprise). It's a super cheesy film overall but you can really enjoy it if you put yourself in the right frame of mind. Definitely a good rental.
  20. Comics

I can see why those would be divisive. Or why you would be turned off at first. I got the first TPB of Ult. Spidey from the library...so I figured I might as well read it for free; It's not like comics take a long time to read. At first, the hokey dialogue bugged me a little, but the pacing is really good so it quickly became a page-turner for me. Shakes, I looked at All Star Superman, it looks great. I didn't buy it, because my comic money is tied up in Ultimate Spiderman for the moment...but it looks really unusual and interesting, so I'll definitely get to it. I may stick exclusively to Marvel stuff for a little bit, just so I can get a feel for that universe before I move on to DC. I'm very interested in reading Identity Crisis, Crisis on Infinite Earths, 52 and Kingdom Come, as well as a bunch of Batman stuff, so I will get to DC...but I think it's probably best not to mix between the two, because it seems that a lot of the enjoyment of superhero comics comes out of familiarity with the IP...so I don't want to get myself confused by jumping all over the place.
  21. Comics

Ok. I'll seriously consider buying the first trade today (I'm heading to the shop anyway, later on...) What went wrong with the Ultimates? and what would you suggest instead for spiderman TPBs? Has anyone read any of The Phantom? Also: This Exists: http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/comics/comics.htm
  22. Comics

I forgot about cartoons. As far as there being nothing in particular that makes comics a superior medium for superheroes...well, there's nothing in particular about anything that makes anything anything. All ascribed characteristics are arbitrary, so there's no sense arguing about them in terms of absolutes (which, of course, you're doing when you say there's nothing about comics that's more suited to superheroes than other mediums) It is true that mediums are supposed to be a means of conveyance and not of categorization, so you do have a point. Any idea should be suited to any medium. So perhaps I should say, "I, personally, have been most affected by superheroes when experiencing them through comics. At least, insofar as I can comprehend my own experience and convert it into shared language to be communicated to other lifeforms." Edit: I just looked back and realized that I called comics "perfect" medium for superheroes, which is, of course, unfairly speaking in absolutes. And I know, my statements here are full of holes, philosophically speaking...but none of the above is meant to be taken seriously.
  23. Street Fighter IV

well, of course Destructoid hates things that are indestructible.
  24. Trine

Prove it. Addendum: Chris Remo would say that Super Mario Bros. works better with a mouse and/or keyboard.
  25. Comics

Furthermore, (yes, I'm double posting...I figure if I had one post that was too long, no one would read it) something interesting has occurred to me about comics. They are the perfect medium for sci-fi and superhero stories. Because if I have to explain what Captain America looks like in a novel, it will be so much more apparent how goofy it is...because you're moving at a slower pace and figuring out in your imagination what this stuff actually looks like. And film is also not ideal, because the kind of movies that are made about these subjects usually cost a shit ton of money to make, which always just makes everything about them seem pretty unnecessary. But comics are humble.
