  1. Just Cause 2

Maybe it will be easier to tell when we've played the real thing. Maybe they were so ambitious with the single player they couldn't or didn't want to do multi. Maybe they thought they'd have had to settle for a tacked on multiplayer experience. I'm just talking out of my ass, though. Maybe they take the game more seriously than we think they do and don't want it to be...ah who am I kidding, they literally REQUIRE you to cause "chaos" to unlock new mission objectives. They actually use the word "chaos."
  2. Just Cause 2

The sounds of the guns in this game are so sharp, crisp and satisfying. I love the way the sound echos and seems to carry off into the distance. I don't usually care about gunfire sounds.
  3. Tales of Monkey Island

LucasArts: The Telltale Games of the Past I think we just invented retroactive slogans. New Coke: Don't worry, old Coke will be back!
  4. Life

Haha. I've never heard Animal Crossing compared to WoW, but it certainly fits. I like that.
  5. ファイナルファンタジーXIII

Yeah, since the PS3 doesn't really have any hardware problems (that I've ever heard of) you can feel pretty safe about it too.
  6. Bad Company 2 (360)

  7. The perpetual thread of praise!

What is that thread about? Also: that all sounds delicious.
  8. Life

Yeah, I can understand why someone born in the 30s would have trouble understanding "what is game?"
  9. ファイナルファンタジーXIII

Yeah, if you plan on getting a PS3 down the road, it seems like it would be well worth waiting. And there are plenty of reasons to own a PS3 at this point if you can scrape together the cash. I bought mine used for about $240 and have never regretted it: Little Big Planet alone was almost enough to justify the purchase for me, but then when you throw Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2 and inFAMOUS into the mix...

I didn't know people still played Animal Crossing. Also: Guys I'm trying to quit drinking, or at least drinking alone and then being a dork on the internet. I've posted here many times under the influence over the past few months, so I apologize if I've been dumb, obnoxious or annoying at any point. I need to find a more constructive way to deal with my loneliness. Does anyone else have experience with this issue? Also: Also: A couple weeks ago I bought New Super Mario Bros. Wii as a birthday present for my 57 year old father. He's not "a gamer" per se, but I've gotten him interested since the Wii has come out (he actually bought one after much heated competition between us in Wii Sports). We've had a blast with Wii Sports, Sports Resort and also Boom Blox: Bash Party and I was thinking back on when I was a tiny Groucho and my dad and I had so much fun playing through Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country, plus I saw him eyeing the game when we were in Best Buy once. It dawned on me that this would be an awesome way for us to spend some quality time together now that co-op mario bros. was a reality. He was really excited to recieve that gift and we've been having tons of fun so far. Does anyone else have any stories about gaming with their parents?
  11. Just Cause 2

    Sounds cool Miffy.
  12. Metro 2033?

The Giant Bomb quick look makes it seem pretty cool and crazy. Apparently, it has Nazis and Aliens in it. You were probably being facetious, but just to clarify: yes, it is in-game.

  14. Perfect Dark XBLA

!!!YES!!! I feel like I'm living through that moment on Idle Thumbs when Nick remembered the name of that dirtbike game and Jake flipped out. I almost just considered revisiting that game, but I know it would be a bad idea.
  15. Life

Ugh...just read my earlier posts in this thread. Sorry for my quasi-political rantings, guys. I must remember not to combine the Idle Thumbs forums and beer.
  16. Just Cause 2

But it actually worked??? That's awesome. What kind of crazy super-powered laptop do you have?
  17. Perfect Dark XBLA

Yeah, considering Halo 3 (of all things) felt outmoded to me once I tried COD:WAW which has a run button, this is probably not for me either. My first FPS was Timesplitters which I only liked because of the weird characters and the multiplayer chaos, but back in the Perfect Dark days I was always baffled by the appeal of first person shooters. I couldn't understand why people didn't find it utterly bizarre that they couldn't see their character and instead just controlled a floating gun. I mean, I understood the first person concept, so I don't quite mean that literally, but still, a Video game which basically did not have a main character made no sense to me. I liked the first 3rd person James Bond game that came out on Playstation a couple years after Goldeneye but could never get into Goldeneye. Man...nostalgia moment. I forget what that game was called...but it had a skiing mission! How awesome is that?
  18. Comics

Mostly, I'm talking trade paperbacks. What's good and why? Currently I'm reading the Marvel book Universe X. It's my first attempt at reading a whole arc in terms of superhero oriented stuff. I always kind of closed-mindedly assumed all superhero comics were a waste of time...but I really get a kick out of this inter-dimensional, apocalyptic what-not. I didn't realize this was the sequel to the Earth X limited series, so I'm quite out of the loop, but it's good in a way because it gets me reading backstories for all different characters...so it's getting me more familiar with the Marvel universe. So I wonder if you guys have other suggestions. What would be good some good starting points for getting into superhero comics? (Remember...I know virtually nothing about the subject) I'm looking for stuff that's epic and somewhat serious, but not so serious it becomes ham-fisted. Also, I appreciate stuff that's a little silly, but not overtly jokey. What I mean is...the writers had to know it was kind of corny when they were working on it, but they wrote it with a deadpan tone. Also...I'm interested in stuff that really plays with continuity and character identities.
  19. Heavy Rain

So you're done with Heavy Rain. Is it wrong, Mr. Toblix, that I have a hard time imagining you finishing a game?
  20. Mass Effect 2

Internet slang alert!!! WARNING: this internet user may have had toxic exposure to a dangerous webpage known as 4chan.org In all seriousness, though, I'm going to take your word over that of Toblix in this situation, because I heart dialogue trees.
  21. Mass Effect 2

NOOOOO!....I have very similar taste to Toblix, but I was really looking forward to this game!!! NNOOOOOO!
  22. Life

You're from England though, which seems to be quite different from the US, politically (if I'm wrong I'm sorry for my ignorance). I imagine you've never heard Glen Beck and the like. They are truly enormous fuckjobs who have no business pretending to have anything to do with the news. I have no problem with conservatives (I see myself as a moderate, in between the two parties) but Beck, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Coulter and others are simply complicit propaganda pushers and I take issue with anyone who thinks differently.
  23. Perfect Dark XBLA

Thanks, Miffy for taking so much time to answer my question. I have downloaded the demo and will definitely spend at least an hour with it due to your good salesmanship. Also: I got excited when you said the game doesn't take itself seriously. I didn't like the Bayonetta demo, but when I heard about how much that game did NOT take itself seriously I was like: CAR --> BEST BUY --> PURCHASE WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT, and I loved that game. within the next 120 minutes I'll start the Perfect Dark demo, and if I'm lucky, I'll have a religious experience like I did with my other N64 throwback attempt, Sin & Punishment (if anyone has a Wii and has not played S&P...fucking do so. If you like action video games AT ALL this game will become your new God for at least a little while).
  24. Street Fighter IV

Looks like the buttons are nicely raised up on the modded stick, Patrick. Which is cool since that's one of the main problems with the 360 sticks (low-set, chinzy buttons). Still, the wireless Tekken stick is pretty nice, if anyone's considering it.
  25. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

I have both systems. Occasionally I'm down for casual FPS play. I played a lot of Halo 3 at one point and a pretty good amount of Call of Duty: World at War. I was more partial to COD because it was slick, quick and simple. However, when I tried the multiplayer demo of Bad Company 2, I felt like a couldn't figure out what the hell was going on (to be fair I only played it once for a few minutes, but it was clunky and overwhelming to me). If either of you guys care to advance an argument as to why I might want to consider buying this game for PS3 or 360 I'd be open to considering it (note: I would probably lean toward 360 b/c of multiplayer).
