I mean, they could have at least used vaguer language to dance around it all being about women.

The entire run of BBC evening news. No episodes are skipable.

The Wire It's so good. I've watched the whole run several times, and I plan on doing so again soon.

Perhaps I'm totally lame, but for me the Christmas season really starts in earnest with my family's annual visit to the Swedish Church in London for Sankta Lucia, which we did on Saturday. Here's a clip someone else recorded of one of last year's services: Then on Sunday we had an early pretend Christmas for my nine-year-old nephew, because he'll be in Australia for actual Christmas with some of his dad's family. It was a nice day, but it wasn't the same as real Christmas, and I'll miss him when that comes around. He's usually my assistant gift distributor. I'm still pretty excited, though.

Metalgate was depressing for the second before it transpired to be completely illusory. I assumed that was some sort of pointless non-pun on "Anita". Is even that giving the author too much credit?

I can dress up as Olly Moss if you like.

I was touched by your plight, so I made a dumb tool that creates a redirect URL that ends with .gif For example, here's the one you linked above: I imagine YouTube may eventually add an alternative URL option for this very reason, like some image hosts offer.

I like that the top thread mistakenly declares something a grammatical error because some gaters were confused about the subject noun. Reading comprehension still isn't a strong suit for them, evidently. (To be fair, that could happen pretty much anywhere, but it is fun.)

Those are pretty much my feelings, except I guess I just happen to like the guy a fair amount, and I'm still listening (and watching pretty much everything). Because I don't take him to actually be presenting himself as any kind of role model or source of real advice on anything other than games, I'm not generally bothered by his antics (other than occasional mild frustration at his refusal to engage with a concept at all), and I even think his dismissal of people's tastes is pretty harmless (none of the "hippy crap" stuff seems to be said with any malice). But when that ignorance extends to unironically patronizing anyone who doesn't have the job they want because they "haven't worked hard enough", or whatever, there's no joke there. It's just an insult to a whole huge portion of humanity who haven't had the same good fortune. I don't resent the man for the easy path he's had through life, but I can't abide him slighting, even accidentally, those not able to do the same. But most of the time Dan isn't doing any of that, and I find him very entertaining.

Would anyone actually see that as "nutritional advice", though?
-
I like Dan well enough as long as he isn't talking about anything that actually matters. All the vomit stuff is gross, though. Not into that. Have you seen his cooking experiments?

Another woman? What a remarkable coincidence.

Happy messing things up day! Also the birth thing.

It was probably to do with the combination of image height and the size of the viewport (if you were using a very high or very low resolution screen, or one with unusual proportions, such as being much taller than it is wide). Anyway, I did some more fiddling. Hopefully it works a bit better now. Unless you use an old browser, in which case the CSS changes I made might not be supported.

Thanks! To toot my own horn a little more, I was actually slightly drunk when I took the dog photos, so I think they came out pretty well. Immediately after the straight-on one, she got a little freaked out by the shutter noise, and became very hyperactive. Then the owner kindly calmed her down, which is why she's posing in the other ones. I don't usually ask for poses, even of people. The layout is a free one that I've tinkered around with a bit. I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but I chose it mainly because it devotes the maximum space to the pictures. The main problem currently is that it doesn't scale to different screen heights and aspect ratios very well (due to a rather inept hack of mine to try to make it possible to see each image without any text obscuring it. The subject changes are entirely arbitrary. It's not meant to be a single subject thing; I just tend to upload a bunch from a particular outing or occasion. I still have a bunch of photos from my trip to Stockholm in July that I haven't found the energy to go through yet. I'll get around to it eventually.

Given that I upload pretty much all my tedious photos to Flickr for my mum's benefit, I've taken to picking out the least bad of them (as I judge it) and posting them to a Tumblr blog. There's still some nonsense in there that probably only I find interesting or appealing, but it should be somewhat less of a slog. You are welcome to take a look or not.

I understood, and agree completely. I appreciate the effort, and that the general mood seems to be edging towards somewhere vaguely near the right place. I just found the one thing amusing, and the other frustrating. But the general tone of the thread could have been a whole lot worse.

That's fucking incredible. That's pretty spectacular, to the point that I find it hard to believe it's real, even if it does occasionally miss slightly. I guess colours are comparatively unambiguous, so it can build strong associations for them and identify them with strong confidence.

Depressingly, a few people in that thread seem to believe that sportsmen go around talking about raping each other all the time, and that preventing them from doing so would gravely diminish the very nature of sport itself. I mean, I don't follow sport, so maybe they all do, but I get the feeling those guys in the thread are just a bit lost in their gamer subculture nonsense.
-
He's right, it is important that we take into account the cultural context of rape being bad. (That made me laugh quite a bit.)
