  1. Not only would someone have to implement that; they'd also have to convince their users to use it properly. What would actually happen is people would have a bunch of completely different avatars between which they'd switch freely, meaning you'd have to remember all these different avatars for everyone which would be even worse than the confusion when people change their avatars in the first place. Or maybe it'd be great.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Wait, are we supposed to repost our comments from the other thread here too?
  3. My favourite bit was when Jeff couldn't contain his laughter. "Traditional gamer" is pretty much equivalent to "traditional values", right? A nice name for a shitty attitude to the "non-traditional"?
  4. Ori and the Blind Forest

You also can't return to any of the previous "dungeon" sections. I suppose you could make a point of checking the map to ensure you don't miss anything in them (I believe the completion percentage should show at the top), but I never thought to do that. I missed a few things, but for me this game was far too beautiful to get hung up on dumb achievement or 100% completion nonsense. But it is nice to have a save with all the unlocks, if only so I can go and enjoy the nice green area with the peaceful music to the east of the map. I really liked that bit. This game really does look spectacular. The animation is top notch, so kudos to James Benson I guess. Regarding the difficulty, while it is certainly more challenging than you might infer from the aesthetic, I found it was mainly a few sequences that gave me real trouble, and that in probably half of those cases I'd either forgotten about one of my abilities or I'd been approaching the problem the wrong way. That's not to say that it wasn't tricky, but generally when it seemed like they were asking me to do something absurdly fiddly, they generally actually weren't. For example, I went through a whole big section of bashing off enemy projectiles and bouncing off a whole load of thorns, only to remember after I reached the bottom that I had recently unlocked the leaf, and that that was clearly the intended solution. Anyway, I just finished it. What a great game.

What's with this Owen/Not Aurini/the one with hair/whoever guy? Does he spend his entire life nursing a migraine? It seems like every video I see of him is 50% him sighing, pausing exhaustedly mid-sentence, rubbing his face, pinching the bridge of his nose, lying on his sofa or sitting in a bath.* Is it part of his dumb YouTube affectation? On YouTube you've got to have a dumb affectation. Like copious jump cuts or shrieking at every bloody thing. I'm a YouTube expert.** * I actually only saw a screenshot of that last one. ** This is untrue.
  6. For one thing, it seems like it's more that he has a good technical understanding of language – he knows all the proper grammatical terminology and so on. Beyond that, being a good writer doesn't necessarily mean being able to verbalise one's thoughts on the spot; it's quite possible he's more articulate if allowed to stew on things a little, which is something writing better allows for. My main complaint with Brad is that it sometimes seems like when he's coming at a game with a strategy that isn't really working, he seems weirdly reluctant to try something else. I'm sure I can be the same, but for whatever reason I notice it with Brad, and I find it quite irritating. Examples: refusing to combat-brand in Shadow of Mordor, or his insistence on getting stuck in unnecessary combat in Dying Light. I suppose I'm just being a "you're not playing it right" arsehole.
  7. I had strongly conflicting simultaneous feelings about the latest Unplugged. On the one hand I squirmed my way through all the awkwardness; on the other, it was hilarious and pretty thrilling. At this rate it's going to take them forever to get anywhere, but I don't suppose that matters.
  8. The one thing you can say for that music is that it's tragically well-matched to my namesake: a naff and hilariously soft mockery of the traditionally tough (if not outright mean) biker aesthetic. He's so completely wet and rubbish, and that cheesy tune is his perfect match.
  9. An email I sent to Giantbomb

I greatly enjoy when Drew snaps and cries out a defiant "NO!". Example: Demo Derby

I got that he was going for some wrestling thing, but I don't know wrestling well enough to know who it is. Anyway, it seems like he's going to make it work within the game, but maybe I'm being too credulous. Didn't Danny ask him if he was some other wrestler? A current one. John Cena or something. Tested dot com's Will Smith says "here's the thing" way too often. And Adam Savage is rather too fond of the word "inculcated". But those matters are of no concern to the Giant Bomb thread.

Holy shit, I didn't see that. The tail end of that video was great. Drew's protests eventually breaking down to a simple pained "NO!", in particular. And yes, Danswers gives a much more rounded view of Dan, I think. I can't wait for the next episode of the D&D thing. I'm excited by how earnestly Dan seems to be treating it. I'm sure his character will be very much his own thing, but he seems happy to do so on the game's terms, and Rorie seems like he could be pretty good at finding a way to make things fit, if that makes any sense. I've never played it myself, so I'm pretty interested to see more of the nuts and bolts stuff than The Adventure Zone lays bare.
  12. Eurovision Song Festival

I remember them. Weren't they the lot who would insist on conducting interviews in car parks with megaphones or whatever? Or was that someone else? Also, if you won, wouldn't it not only mean that you got to compete again, but also that the following competition would be held in Australia? That'd be an expensive year for the annual attendees.

Christmas is incredibly blue? IT IS IF YOU'RE DOING IT RIGHT HURR HURR

I have Photoshop, but I don't really know what I'm doing:
  15. Feminism

Yeah, I can't even imagine how I'd cope with that.
  16. An email I sent to Giantbomb

The obvious reason being that it has so damn many of them. Got it.
  17. An email I sent to Giantbomb

I, too, enjoyed Danswers. I'm pretty pro-Dan in general, but the more he shows his reasonable/relatively responsible/sensitive/whatever side, the less conflicted I can feel about that.

Cooking is a colossal pain in the arse. Fuck this thread. Mashed potatoes should have a bit of texture to them. That purée style stuff creeps me out. Brad seems like he blames games for him not paying attention. Unless they're Destiny or Dota, I suppose. I honestly don't notice the Jeff being down on games thing, but enough people say it, so I must be deaf. Or I just subconsciously adjust anything he says to compensate.
  19. Is bathroom best common room to build a PC in?

You're probably right that it's a waste of money, but it's a waste of not very much money, so if it'll ease an unnecessarily nervous mind, perhaps it's the way to go. I have a grounding strap from an electronics toolkit that I got from my dad who I think stole it from his former place of work, along with a couple of office phones and an outdated laptop. I'm not sure about that, but they certainly seemed pinched. If I'm building a PC I use it because I have it, but I don't think the risk is particularly great. I don't always put it on if I'm tinkering around (swapping out RAM or whatever).
  20. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

Hi. Are you in Worcester Park? I lived there for about 18 years!
  21. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

He does, although it's been a while since I've seen him. There are plenty of Thumbs or former Thumbs not yet represented on the map, I think.
  22. I agree completely Moddy and Tegan. Though it might not be entirely to my taste, Aliens does what it does pretty well. I just really wish it had invented its own fiction rather than completely undermining what Alien had established. For all that people hate Alien 3 for killing off Newt and Hicks, for me Aliens killed what the whole premise was even about. That's a much greater crime than the loss of a couple of fan-favourite characters in my book.
