  1. The Eagles are fucking terrible, on the same levels as Journey and Genesis, seriously people like that shit. Urgh now I feel sick, thanks.

I also dislike the Eagles, Journey, and Genesis. I grew up with my dad telling me Journey was girl music, so that one just rubbed off on me.

Also, The Dude from The Big Lebowski hates the Eagles.

That one Joe Walsh song I hear on the radio every so often is okay, though.

  2. I like this game. It's way easier to get a hold of the mechanics than qwop, and I like how it makes me feel like I have to stretch to grab on to things. Stretching my fingers across the keyboard really immerses me into the rock climbing aspect of the game.

  3. Haha, Jake did try to stare us down pretty hard. I was the red-haired guy with Apocrypha.

Also, we came across Weinhändler in the tabletop freeplay area and had to try it. That game is great. Thanks for the recommendation.

Do you guys think the Idle Thumbs meet-ups will continue in the future if you all are at conventions, or will they stop since you're not currently making the podcast?

I totally played some Weinhändler as well, with 3 random dudes, one who happened to also listen to Idle Thumbs.

  4. Thanks everyone who showed up! It was great to hang out with folks on Friday. Thanks also to Marven for setting it up! There were fewer people there this year (probably because we don't do podcasts anymore) but it was especially fun for me since this year had the biggest quotient of actual Thumbs alumni -- Chris, Steve, Me, David (Metallus), Spaff, and Marek. If Nick had made it (sadly he couldn't due to a Bethesda party) it would have been the first time the people who started Idle Thumbs were all in the same room as the people who regularly did the podcast. A near miss for worthless-beyond-being-personally-meaningful-to-me history, but an extremely fun time all around.

Sorry we weren't able to squeeze out a PAX cast. We never had high hopes of one happening which is why nothing was ever said. The timing never worked out -- almost all of us somehow have jobs now which actually cross over with doing things at PAX.

Unrelated to Thumbs in particular: Big thanks to any Thumbs listeners who went to the Poker Night panel. It was awesome, and slightly flattering, to see familiar faces from the meet-up also appear there to hear us say a bunch of crap about that, too!

That was a rad panel, by the way. And these posters are awesome!

  5. So Giant Bomb posted the whole thing in their Bombcast feed, and Jeff started off by saying it was a bit crowded.

It was mostly alright, and definitely better when less people were talking. But it's disappointing to hear everyone talk about how GDC is being commercialized and then proceed on to take part in it. Personally I want GDC coverage, I want to hear stories from the panels and the floor, not about 10 seconds of embargo'd batman footage. Personally if I heard that my appointment tomorrow was going to be the exact same thing I saw last week, I'd cancel it and attend a panel.

Take a break from the endless PR churn, and tell us something interesting about how games are made.

I wholeheartedly agree. I want more panels. I want more insightful talks about video games, and aspects about video games.

I also really appreciate the use of the phrase "PR Drip." I feel it sends a clear and accurate picture to my brain.

  6. I listen to a lot of weird punk music mostly, my two favorites being The Dead Milkmen (as shown by my avatar) and Atom and his Package. Also, oddly enough, I've been listening to NWA and Wu-Tang Clan a lot lately, and I have to say "Straight Outta Compton" and "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" are easily my two favorite rap albums. Also, I've been listening to a whole lot of Girl Talk lately.

  7. THIS MAY BE THE STUPIDEST OF QUESTIONS

But would the bar allow anyone slightly under 21 (20)? Since it's a hotel bar, is it a little like that restaurant bar pub-y thing where they don't exactly check? Does anybody even know?
