No worries, it happens Reading Ross' twitterings is a surreal experience. I love the thought of him playing Call of Duty with Chris Moyles and using the term pwned. Out of interest, does anyone outside the UK know who this is?

Can we remember to use the spoiler tags here please? Although I have read Watchmen I haven't seen the film yet and, given the praise it's been getting, I was rather looking forward to seeing the new ending for myself. Edit: Thanks Rodi

... maybe. There's these rumours doing the rounds, stemming from Jonathan Ross's twitter feed, about about him and Charlie Brooker being in Fable 3. I know it could easily all come to nothing, but is anyone else excited at the prospect of meeting a virtual Brooker?

Ohhh, did not know that. Do we know why there's a link with autism/ADD yet or do we just know that there is one? Interesting stuff.

Couldn't agree more more, Firefly was superb. Except for Morena Baccarin There was something similar when I was at uni. We'd pile into a lecture theatre with a projector and watch films and tv shows. Then we'd head off to a pub and socialise after. It was really cool

I love Dr Ashen, a fun fact about him is that he appeared briefly in an episode of Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe. Whilst we're on fun facts, it's actually a misconception that too much sugar makes kids hyper active. Unless you have diabetes, the human body as actually excellent at controling blood sugar levels and it will stay pretty constant regardless of what you eat.

ThunderPeel, I'll certainly buy that a good director can make all the difference, you could always tell when you were watching a Whedon episode, but we'll have to disagree the acting quality in Buffy/Angel (both of which I love btw). I'm really heartened to see everyone enjoying Watchmen, or at least not hating it. You all seem confused as to how much you actually enjoyed it which if nothing else is making me curious to see it.

Are Game Reviewers Too Kind to AAA Games?
SignorSuperdouche replied to kuddles's topic in Video Gaming
From my perspective scores are largely irrelevant. The idea that you can assign a number, often a pointlessly precise number, to something so complex and subjective as how good a game is just seems nuts to me. Getting wound up about it seems pretty nuts too. You just have to have faith that as we get older the industry will mature with us, which it almost certainly will. -

I'm not convinced by that argument. It's predicated on the notion that gameplay and narrative have to be two separate systems. I would argue that this is just a common practice and that the Jonathan Blow's of the world are showing us ways of bridging that gap. My money's on Wanted: Weapons of Fate being the game to make my eyeballs leak. -
ULTIMATE GAMER (only attractive people apply)

As a counterpoint, we have aluminium rather than aluminum. It's only a marginal difference but it is shorter in US English. -
I'm with Wrestle on this. Whedon seems to be a very poor judge of acting ability, particularly when it comes to young women. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Eliza Dusku, Michelle Trachtenberg, Morena Baccarin, Charisma Carpenter - all fucking terrible actresses, all given large roles.

I'm going to spend the rest of my life waiting for this to turn up in a pub quiz.

It's good to know that people seem to be enjoying Watchmen. I've been swinging pendulously between being super excited and thinking it'll be shit and preparing myself for complete disappointment. Dollhouse is getting better, but it's also getting worse. Episode four was half pretty good and half annoying as hell, not least of all because it was suggested in a conversation that multiple firewalls makes a system safer, which is a pet hate of mine. Fortunately virtually all the stuff I found annoying was episode specific and it was the overall story parts that I found enjoyable so I'm not giving up on it just yet. Something else I've been watching recently is the BBC adaptation Gormenghast from 10 or so years ago which I strongly recommend. It's delightfully self indulgent with all the actors hamming it up to the best of their ability. I found a couple of clips on you tube which convey only a small part of the series as a whole, but are some of my favourite bits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaZaXDfrE9A

It looks more like a microphone with googly eyes to me. Like a version of Clippy the office assistant for windows media player or something. -
It's spam, the text was copied and pasted from here.

Close I really expected this to be a toblix thread.

Hoisted by my own petard -
I wish he'd stayed as the podgy, balding, dorky J Allard. He actually looked pretty cool in a geeky kind of way.

Because you're supposed to say it in a Mario voice duh -
Yeah I get that it shows you what the audiences are, but it doesn't tell you what they want. If I made a game and tried to aim at a demographic that's not me I'd probably be end up tailoring the game for some imaginary stereotype that doesn't exist in the real world (See Gamer Grub for an example of this). I'm not in marketing, but if I wanted to sell a game to, say, a family audience, I'd want to look at what that audience is already buying. This document doesn't go into any detail on that.

If there's one thing we can say for sure about games in the future it's that they'll have a ton of sweet guns. On reflection I don't know it's fair to say the data is useless. Whilst it doesn't help developers much right now, it does provide a starting point for further investigation. Since we now know, for example, that lots of adult women play games we can look into what sort of games they play in more depth. Does that make sense?

I suppose it depends on the business model. If you run an MMO where your comes from subscription fees then yes, you want to aim for customers who will put in lots of time. If, however, your income is purely from the sale of the disk/download then it doesn't matter how long the customer does/doesn't play the game. The document doesn't give much information as to which games are being bought by whom and at what price point. I have to agree with your assessment that these aren't really useful to anyone beyond, say, a conversation down the pub.
