well i did love okami, bought black too but that looks a bit shite. i don't really like fps's which seems to render the ps2 a bit useless in my life...am i wrong? well i like doom and goldeneye and deus ex but i never seem to like other fps's.

the guy behind the havoc physics engine just announced a really cool video games masters degree on the floor below me, and they're putting lotsa money into it n stuff. my friend just got a placement with demonware and they're doing incraesingly well. it's a good time to be a gamer in ireland...especially with pokemon finally out in 16 days...

yaay yufster come start a studio! we can start it from my flat which has tea and coffee making facilities, and i'm learning to program, and there's a GAME right around the corner, and a gallery across the road, perfect for fostering creativity! But yeah, I would never buy a house in Ireland. Its gone pretty much the same way here, my rent isn't so bad, but if we were to buy a house in an ok area with 4 bedrooms it would be around 500k. I'm gonna move to japan when i'm old enough and buy a cardboard box for 80 million yen which i then hand down to my kids. now that's the way to go...

haha check this out... http://onastick.net/sitz/images/ warhammer now looks funner!

So we could talk about games we like, and then maybe some games we don't like? sounds like some sorta forum to me!!! i can't play grim for more than 5 minutes before getting too frustrated with the controls. i'm going for earthbound. the writing's better than anything else around, and its pretty as all hell. i like the start sequence of super metroid very much, but that doesn't count as a game.

i'm still looking forward to pokemon pearl. that's what i get for living in a third world country. otherwise all the games i want to play are out, but just not out on the right console yet, or i can't afford them. our new flatmate just moved in and in the luckiest of circumstances every single game he owns we already have. except red steel. hah. now i'm depressed.

Ooh, yeah it could be like a kind of reverse Paperboy! Paperboy 2: Householder's Revenge. Go to it.

forgive me for being cynical but those papers are just advertisement vehicles. and the worst thing about em is that in dublin the train stations don't even have any recycling facilities so all the papers just go in the regular bin. and on rainy days the floor of the train turns into some sort of papier mache installation mush.
-
The weirdest thing is that the touters always look so happy despite the fact that ppl are crashing into them, grabbing papers off them, and insulting them all the time. The ones in Dublin congregate around the entrance of the train stations, so it can get pretty ugly at rush hour. We do have a free publication called Mongrel that's pretty cool though, and we used to have one called the Slate but it got shut down for being slanderous. they're both just bitchy cynical little publications, but v amusing. Off the topic a little, I'm going insane trying to find mpegs to download. Does anyone know of any good video clip libraries I can download and edit from?

awwww...all this talk of PoP got me all nostalgic, so I dug up Dgeneration, which used to be one of my favourite games. Anyway for the first hour which I spent dying I was soooo confused as to how i had ever managed to finish the game - it seemed so much harder now! then i remembered that spacebar = shoot laser. d'oh.

i bought legend yesterday in game and was told that "no tombraider game will be released on any new or old nintendo console". bear in mind that i was buying it for the gamecube. anniversary IS coming out on wii, yeah? game idiots piss me off.

I bow to your superior gameplay

oh dear god, i remember that game. i had it on my amiga and would literally spend hours just on the first fight. i don't think i ever got past it, actually. (bear in mind i was like seven). so, uh, sorry, nothing constructive to say! except maybe that to keep p of p a happy event in ur life, just replay sands of time.

i used to feel this way a lot when i was working, i was buying a ton of games and doing that really irritating thing where you play something for like a week, profess it to be the best thing ever and then find something newer and shinier to play with. the only game i manage to play on a regular basis is animal crossing, but thats not a game, man lil jo would die if it wasn't for me. i bring my ds into the lab every day, which has its upsides (everyone knows what a care bears fan i am from the stickers) and its downside (comp sci geeks asking me why i don't have a ds lite).and of course sim city but that's inescapable.

Wow! First thread! So we just got back from Spain there yesterday, where we spent an inordinate amount of time trawling through arcades trying to find some hidden gem that we could somehow convince the proprietor to have shipped over to us. We didn't, although we did find a cardboard cutout of mario to take lewd pictures with. All the old shite games got us thinking about other old shite games, that nostalgia has recreated as timeless classics the likes of which will never be seen again, but in reality, were a bit shite. ExistentialistJones' one is bart vs the space mutants. mine was this game i had on the amiga when i was a kid called colorado. I'd spent soooo long rhapsodising about this game, and then when i eventually found it again, i had to admit after about five seconds that it was pure and utter crap. and not in a techie way, some of my favourite games are ancient! just in a...crap way. But i'll still find the time to play through it again. Any contenders for worst-but-best game ever?

omg omg omg so i know this is nothing to do with anything but further to the advancement of the career of jay anthony franke aka jake sommers from california dreams aka jc denton's voice.......he's been on to some of my friends cos they're in a band and they wrote a song called jake sommers and told them he does voices in games for a living now (but only named deus ex) well..... he said he works for activision....he does.... but as a "quality assurance engineer"! he's a tester! and a spoofer! sorry thought you guys should know...

I'm confused. Doesn't that actually happen? If this is sarcasm ignore me, I'm having a blonde (and sick) day. But yeah when u say watch out theres a 3 headed monkey behind you! he appears for a second.

that last picture of her with the red throw looks like a glamour shoot. I'm soooooooo jealous! we're gonna get a kitten when we move out of our flat and into a house in october. i want to call him mr tiddles, but existentialistjones thinks catwoman is better. suggestions? i won't go for tiddleswoman.

fair enough you pedantic little man, I do not have a research history within the field of the study of the subjective experience of emotion. Better? meanwhile, regards the definition of emotion, social psychology has one, neuropsychology has one, personality psychology etc. Within my field we don't look at anything except the physiological nature of emotion, and the perception of emotion, and that sort of observable thing. To my mind the subjective, introspective stuff is part psychology, part philosophy. A social constructivist might say that regarding AI the subjective stuff is unnecessary, because if you take that into account you're getting yourself into a chinese room situation, so a good pragmatic definition might involve the perception and physiology more so. Although of course someone working in another field will have a different definition. Lyle did not recompense me for my sting. HHmph.
-
oh, sorry! I was waffling away about perception of emotion, cos thats what im looking at right now. Scary, didnt realise how narrow-focused i was becoming. research is weird like that. as regards programming, i'm a complete noob (refusing to use 0's) i've gotta learn c++ and visualbasic and all that jazz and i am completely lost - my brain wont work that way! the experience of emotion is something i have no idea about apart from some undergrad courses. it is interesting though and makes a lot of sense tying that into the autism spectrum. on an entirely unrelated subject, i just got stung by a scorpion in animal crossing. wtf???!!

is anyone else having loading issues with this game?
