  1. Summer Steam Sale

Typical. I run out of money when some games I want are on sale. So what's the deal with Metro 2033? Looks like a typical FPS monster apocalyptic disaster with that almight Doom influence. Couldn't I just find a cheap copy of Doom 2 and get the same satisfaction, minus teh graph!cs?
  2. The funniest thing ever written?

Yeah, Seanbaby is funny. Well, he sometimes tries too hard, and there's a certain pattern he's been following for a while now, but I found out about him by basically consuming Old Man Murray this past year. He's written a couple of articles with Erik Wolpaw. Good stuffs.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, I saw The A-Team yesterday. It was more fun than I expected, and I guess I've figured out where the "Shut up, fool!" the internet loves so much comes from. It's fun if you don't stop to think about it. Sadly, I can't stop and not think about it. Small things like guns that never reload bother me. Still, if you want a class-a dumb action movie, see it. Really want to see Toy Story 3, but I detest 3D. Actually, anyone else completely turned off by new movies nowadays? It ain't old man nostalgia (I'm 21), it's just that everything is a remake, a sequel, in 3D or a formulaic retread. Whatever happened to creativity? Good movie ideas aren't that hard to come up with. I miss limited release movies Kinda wish I was back in Ottawa at the Bytowne cinema now.
  4. Portal 2

I hope it's not as big as HL2 was. That game is wayyy too bloated. It's tedious. By the time we're trying to enter the Citadel I can't wait for it to be over and done with. Actually, I just remembered its estimated time is 10 hours (dunno where I read that), so it should take the Real Hardcore Gamer 7 hours and Kromsy around 18. Blah, still too long.

Just gonna join the chorus and say 'grats Miffy! So 'grats Miffy!
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

I saw Family Plot earlier tonight. It's not Hitchcock's finest hour (well, two), but it's fun.

One more day. One more exam. One more exam. God. I can't wait for this year to be over. Because my summer is going to rock so hard it'll make Led Zeppelin seem like Justin Brieber. Come hell or high water, nothing will stop me. </OTT rant>

Holy shit. You guys have to see this. One guy did this. He painted it using oil on glass. Holy shit. v1EbNvHDxbA
  10. Yeah, the old LucasArts soundtracks were really really good. I also love 's, most of the score for Shadow of the Colossus, , (both original and licensed), , , and a decent chunk from the Metal Gear Solid games.

I see you've taken a liking to Equus. Hah, no. Sorry. It sounds like loads of fun, apart from the bit where there were knives being thrown at you.
  12. Monkey Island 2: SE

I actually posted this here a few minutes before the Mojo forums. I forgot to edit this message accordingly. Not sure why the times on your side say otherwise (I can't compare since each forum has a different time zone going for it). I'm not trying to pull your chain at all. I really, really am not. Like, at all. The love is all here! It's gigantic, like the heart of a 40 year old trucker whose got some junkfood-induced blockage.
  13. Monkey Island 2: SE

    Where?
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

I liked A Serious Man, even if I don't get it completely. I'll have to let it settle down before I can fully rake through the mud.
  15. The Wire

My copy of The Wire: the Complete Collection arrived recently. I've only seen one episode (re-watched the one I'd already seen) but I already am a huge fan of the show. They clearly know what the fuck they're doing. I've had very little time to myself, lately, so I haven't done much of anything, but I rented A Serious Man today and plan to see it. I was writing a short story with that title, remembered that the Coens had done something similar and so I want to see how our takes compare. Should be fun. I've also developed an interest in Akira Kurosawa's movies, so I'm going to see some of those at some point this summer. Ikiru looks promising.

Haha "Intriguing". Anyone else read that in a droll British voice? Though the quote Southpeak used to describe Two Worlds is itself ridiculous: "Travel the lands and towns of Antaloor including an expanded area Southeast and experience breathtaking landscapes, lively cities, and the thrilling call of ferocious battle."
  17. General Video Game Deals Thread

I don't know if anyone here is particularly biased because of Jake. I know it doesn't affect my posts, anyways. Certainly not in the same way stupidity does. To answer your question: Yes. Season Two starts out good (second episode excluded), butvery good on episode three and suddenly accelerates into excellence on episode four. Season Three has been exceptional so far - they really put a lot of work into making the episodes: 1. Constantly inventive 2. Genuinely funny 3. To make you feel like the puzzles are the story and vice versa. (Excuse the phrase, but it's good game design.) And the games are full of little touches that just make them special. I'm hoping they explore their mechanics completely ala Braid come episodes 3-5, though. That way they'll have their first real must-have game. It's an exciting time in adventure game history. It's even better than Tales of Monkey Island. That's the best way I can put it.

I actually thought of a semi-funny one the other day. "It is the Citizen Kane of not being the Citizen Kane of video games!" - IGN.com

They were made "in jest". I got creeped out because the debate stemmed from an argument about the controversy around the new South Park episodes, "200" and "201". And the threats that episode spawned, too, were "not threats". And when I mentioned that I was able to become tolerant of everything on my own...well. I might as well have raped they're collective mother or something. It's pretty scary seeing people flare up like that. I've been called "too educated" as well (as in, I think too much), so I don't know if I'm offended or what. Either way, it's fucking shit and I'm blabbing. Yeah, I sort of know what you mean. I'm not exactly anti-religion. My stance is pretty...err...complicated and complex (it basically goes both ways). My point is that she was on the brink of complete defeat, but used religion as a way to get back up. Her life is in no way ruled by religion, aka we'd be hanging out and people would be drunk and she doesn't give a shit, she's had boyfriends, she isn't anti-gay (holy crap! In JORDAN?) or anti-Semitic and so on. She's a clear thinker, that's what I like about her. But she needs something to help her, and she chose religion. I can live with that. Beats alcohol, I guess.

So as a follow up on that exam, I got 40%. I'm doing the final in a private room, though, and plan to ace it. As an extra twist, I went home and re-did the paper in silence on my own. I was done in under 20 minutes. *shrug* Also, today, I got some death threats for being an advocate of free speech. I realized that I'm not as dumb as I think I am, because it really was an uphill struggle to learn to be tolerant and understanding, and to try and see the world from a different point of view. As such, I've decided to improve myself on all fronts. I'm exercising, and have been for a while. I'm working on my writing: it's still shit, but at least it's not a total dreck. I'm actively learning everything I can about game design, development, and production. I read science for pleasure. I'm having fun with it. Best/worst of all, I really like this girl. She's really something else. I'm only 20, but I've had a bunch of girlfriends and, well, this one's different. I can only explain it by saying she thinks a lot, that she's been hurt a lot, and that she's crawled out of rock bottom. Admittedly, she needs religious faith as a crutch so she doesn't topple over and wither, but that's perfectly okay. *shrug* Busy month.
  21. Dragon Age

Yep, it does! I get the idea. Thanks you guys.
  22. Dragon Age

Kind of lame bumping a thread like this, but I haven't been able to discern much from videos or reviews. Anyways, I'm thinking of getting Dragon Age for the summer. How does the combat work? Do you press X every time you want to swing ye olde mighty sworde, for example, or do you just tell your peeps to attack and then switch up which attack they use and heal them and so on as they're busy beating a helpless rabbit into rabbit prune? (Aka, is it real time/aggressive or, err...passive?)
  23. Life

It means I'm not worth the paper they wipe their shit with after the farts they like to smell turn into a stream of diarrhetic shit. Though yesterday's exam went well - I think I'll get a full grade - and work today was a lot of fun. So yay.
  24. Life

Yeah, it's just a training thing, I found out. If she's not late, I should be able to bolt out, get a cab, hitch it back and do the exam, then do the lab thing and go to bed at 3pm. It's a fun, excitement-filled life. ...
