Ah well. If we all agreed the world would be boring. I usually hate movies that turn out badly. I feel like I'm hurting the feelings of the people involved by laughing. However, I saw The Room with a couple of friends at 3 am one time and I couldn't stop. It's so surreal. The sex scene at the beginning may have ruined sex for me. I can't do it now without devolving into fits of laughter. I mean, sex was always funny to me (what? It's funny if you think about it), but now that stupid song gets stuck in my head every time and I completely lose it. Oh man. Fuck The Room, unless you're watching it at 3 am with some friends.

Well, I've done it, and figured out the culprit sometimes. I worked-out Murder on the Orient Express and Peril at End House. Murder of Roger Ackroyd I almost had, but decided that that person couldn't actually be the killer. Turns out I had the right culprit. Oh well.

Yes. Her works vary from great (Peril at End House, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd) to poor (The Big Four, The Mystery of the Blue Train), but she always plays fair.

Doubtful. The showrunner is gay. I'm going to assume she isn't really gay. After all, why would a wealthy, lesbian dominatrix agree to be hired by male clients? It's most likely a lie, and one you could explain.

Well, this is surprising. Where'd all this over-analysis come from? I'm amused.

Well, as someone who does take issue with sexism and who has had to see enough of it in Arabic society to hate the idea forever: the episode wasn't, to me, sexist. I like to think I'm open-minded about things. I'm fairly sure I'm right about this one. As Orvidos said, people see what they want to see. I take what is given to me and analyze it. *shrug* Love the show. Already pre-ordered series 2.

    The comments make powerful counter-arguments.

It also makes sense in terms of character development and analysis. . Very good writing, if you ask me. Some of the comments on the Guardian article BBX linked to are very interesting, and are well worth a read. I respectfully disagree.

The comments on that article are pretty great. Thanks, BBX. Ah, right. I mixed-up between him and James Nesbitt. Cumberbatch does have the voice, so it should be interesting to see.

Same here. Loved how tight the script was, the last 30 seconds exempted (was a bit much, that one). Some psuedo-feminists are probably going to go bonkers over , but whatever. I love how the writing doesn't waste a moment: it explores characters and keeps the story moving fast. It's stuffed with killer lines. Series 6 of Doctor Who contained Steven Moffat's only two genuinely bad scripts (especially, I think, "Let's Kill Hitler"), but this managed to renew my faith in the man.

I went and did this. Fuck it, I'm starting early. Felt like a badly out of shape and completely breathless champ, but I still got to pump my fist. GIT ON IT. eaIvk1cSyG8

If only. Jordan's still a little behind the times. Maybe when I get to the US, though. At least I have a lot to keep me busy until then.

Having recently gone through a fairly disheartening break-up, do this: get BUSEH. The day my latest ex and I broke-up, I went and saw Drive. It got my mind off htings. Then I got busy working 20 hour days and then playing too many video games for my own good. Then I saw The Wire, season three. Now I'm re-writing old code to suck less and on my third pint of water in under a half hour. In a minute, I'm going to exercise. You live, you learn, you toughen up. Mostly, you learn. Reading is good too. Getting a hobby, very nice. Learn a new language. Lots of pretty girls learning new languages. Always wanted to learn Spanish? No time like the present. Go do something apart from hanging around internet forums. I just found out that I, too, have giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirly isssssssssues.

Amusingly, Cumberbatch is a dwarf in that film.
  15. Life

I spent a decent chunk of 2009 running 8 kilometers everyday, and one aspect of it I miss now is how much stronger things are after a while - as in, my emotional reaction to books, films, games, whatever, all became stronger. It's better than sitting on my ass all day long like I'm doing now and being bored. I need to find the time to hit a gym also. I've gained a lot of weight over the past year and I need to fix that.

Anyone miss Sherlock? Another victim to your insidious machinations, Kroms. And here we are, over a year later. Excuse me while I suck bandwidth out the Daily Mail without giving them page hits. Series two started yesterday. I managed to see the first hour, and it was excellent. Unluckily, the episode cut out at this point for me. I really, really want to know what happens. Only nine more hours to go! The hour I did see was very exciting. Definitely the episode I've enjoyed the most out of the three. I like how the script explores characterization and plot without ever compromising.
  17. Backlog Busters

Ha! I bought every single one of them for dirt cheap, after a friend's insistence. Didn't find all the ones I wanted (Xenogears, Chrono Trigger), but I did get a decent haul.
  18. Backlog Busters

CMI took me a few months, but I was eight at the time. Apart from that, 3 weeks tops (SMI, MI2). Most other games took far less.
  19. Backlog Busters

In all honesty, every game I ever bought, I bought to experience fully, and to analyze and think about later. I don't mind the grinding, or anything, so long as I come away with solid footing to base my opinions on. I did the same thing with LucasArts and Sierra adventure games, and it's paid-off. It's especially important to approach RPGs that way. RPG players can be so picky, and I really want to see whether their opinions, especially those about things staying the same, have any substance to them. Old school adventure gamers are fond of saying that their games took them months to solve. From my experience, that's 1. bullshit, 2. not a good thing at all. I want to see what aspects of RPGs work and what don't. I agree. You ought to start with something feasible, but Morrowind's cave rats are the size of fucking dogs. They chewed me up and spit me out. I'm at 8! That would explain it.
  20. Backlog Busters

My list somehow grew from 150 items to 240 over the past year. At the rate I currently play, it'll take me 24 years to finish everything. I don't mind, so long as I get to have fun. Rushing things means I don't get to appreciate all the games I have the way I grew to appreciate the Monkey Islands or Ico or so on. I'm currently into Final Fantasy IX's final stretch - a quick walkthrough I checked tells me I've finished 35 out of the game's 43 parts; that only took two years, but hey, whatever - and I've finally started Morrowind proper. My progress in that one involves a lot of dying. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be the dude who saves the world, but if I am, then I hope the last boss isn't a rat: those little shits have downed me time and time again. A battle with a fucking leech took so long the music reached a crescendo. If I was the leech, I'd have thought the music was playing to encourage me against this idiotic tiger with a sword fize sizes too big for him. I spend more time reading dialogue and picking-up the lore than actually playing. Less chance of dying, except by paper cut, probably.
  21. Paths of Exile (free game)

Earlier today I discovered Paths of Exile, a free online aRPG that is currently in closed beta. Guys, it looks . Yes, it looks like Diablo with some added prettiness, but there's something about it. Maybe it's because it's going for $0.00 and I had low expectations, but I can't help but be impressed with the gameplay videos.I appreciate the diverse classes. If my reading of the FAQ is correct, you can all run out into the world together to find species to joyfully murder. It could help dull the repetition that is inherently present in the current incarnation of aRPGs. It isn't hard on the eyes either. The outdoor sunny areas actually look neat. Would you play this? For some reason I'm really excited about it. (This would be the third aRPG-related thread I've created in under a year - four if you count Bastion - and ah hey, I guess I love the genre.)
  22. Paths of Exile (free game)

There are some quests though, right? You just can't make-out how they fit into any sort of narrative?
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

I always thought they were part of the same crew, but then I googled it and apparently they're twenty years apart. I should probably get around to watching Star Trek.
  24. General Video Game Deals Thread

I think everyone here is missing Serious Sam HD 1 + 2 in one pack together for $2.99.
  25. Books, books, books...

1Q84 caused some minor hysteria in Japan, but every person I know who's read it seems to dislike it. I'd be interested in knowing what you ultimately think of it. -- I haven't been reading much outside of technical books (it takes me ages to get through one and I'm reading three simultaneously), but I've been dipping into New Hope for the Dead, by Charles Willeford, for quick chapter reads before I doze off at night. It seems interesting, if slow, so far. It is, however, quite funny; the main character's dry sense of humour makes for hugely entertaining reading. I can't wait to go on break so I can read more of it. The plot seems to be as interesting as Miami Blues's, so yay.
