  1. Zero Punctuation

    Comedy gold.
  2. Weird PS3/Obituary combo

Sorry to hear about your uncle, Miffy. You're right though; he certainly had a good innings considering his affliction. As for the PS3, the only available game that's really piqued my interest in any sort of way is Uncharted. But then I never liked Tomb Raider, so it is only very slight. PS2 backward compatibility is very appealing though -- grab one while you can, I say.
  3. Off-Road Velociraptor Safari

I'll just update the list above whenever someone replies with a new score.
  4. Rez HD

Good golly gosh, Rez HD is even better than the original. I'm finding the game easier to control, foremost, as I wasn't ever capable to getting the higher 'forms' on the Dreamcast. Never played it seriously or for long sessions on the DC, but still -- it just feels more fluid using a 360 stick. And I managed to finally make it to stage 5, which is something else I never achieved during my Dreamcast dabblings. If you like video games, you need to buy Rez HD. It's managed to turn my brain into a giddy blob of jolly primordial jelly all over again. I simply can't find fault with the remake; it's absolutely, delightfully and completely perfect.
  5. Off-Road Velociraptor Safari

    Who's interested in starting an unofficial Thumbs scoreboard then? Me me!!! Good lad -- here we go then: 1,615,650 - ThunderPeel2001 1,549,500 - BigJKO 1,050,000 - n0wak 878,900 - Nappi 877,400 - toblix 701,600 - Wrestlevania 584,850 - ysbreker 526,050 - Cigol 490,300 - miffy495 364,263 - DanJW
  6. Unofficial Baby Thumb's 1st birthday today!

Fair point; I'll make sure you can see the control levers and buttons next time.
  7. Rez HD

I have just topped up on MS Chump Change (via Xbox.com, rather handily) and shall be purchasing Rez HD this very night! ...after T's 1st birthday tea party of course. And when is Ben going to post something..? I seem to remember he despised Rez, calling it:
  8. Unofficial Baby Thumb's 1st birthday today!

    — Mercy, no!
  9. Rez HD

If you mean, "is this Jeff Minter's latest Tempest rip-off?" No, it most certainly is not. Take a risk and try it.
  10. Rez HD

Come on in, water's fine. I can see how someone might not get into it. There's a lot you need to like about it, from the distinctive art style to the very particular music, but I'd give it another shot -- especially as it's been somewhat reworked for the 360. I'm hoping to pick it up sometime in the near future, as I don't think my Dreamcast will last much longer.
  11. Videogaiden 3

Unsurprisingly, their radio appearance(?) was a bit of an anti-climax. You'll be able to listen to it via BBC iPlayer I believe at some point shortly, but it'll likely be the whole show and not an R&R excerpt. And you'll need to have a UK-based IP to use iPlayer of course...
  12. Videogaiden 3

For those interested, Rab and Ryan will be on BBC Radio Scotland from 9:30am GMT today (Weds 30th). They'll be set a series of physical challenges in an attempt to prove gamers aren't a sedentary and unfit lot. You'll need RealPlayer, but it's the BBC's spam- and ad-free version. So not entirely evil -- but make sure you control its file associations during setup.
  13. What can I say?

    Yes, we demand names.
  14. Seeeeeen it...

I heard his mom's a mainstream forum. Apologies for being (more of) a cunt, Thrik; this, I suspect, is why myself and others here perhaps don't frequent "mainstream" forums. It's certainly my reason.
  15. Mass Effect

    ...there's a friggin' map?!
  16. Devil May Cry 4

It's released in the UK on my birthday! That's fate in full effect, right there...
  17. Mass Effect

Funnily enough, once I'd rescued Liara I went straight to Feros. (The conversational interplay and story progression with Liara - and the general alien schism expressed by certain other crew members at this point in the story - is a current high-point for me; intriguing and maturely written throughout.) Those "distress call" interruptions though, mid-flight as you pass through a neighboring system onto your intended destination, are annoying -- especially when it's something like, "can you recover this downed satellite, even though your characters aren't leveled up anywhere near enough to do so?" What an infuriating waste of time. Granted, I'm not asking for hand-holding in this regard. But every single time I go and explore one of these particular types of side quest I find the planet in question in the local system, land, drive around for a while until I find the crash site, only to jump out and then be told - none too blunty - that my team has insufficient tech to recover something? The interface doesn't even hint at how far off you are, for fuck's sake! Just a curt "fuck you very much" (yet again) and you all bundle back into the moon buggy and get on with the proper game. It's appalling, lazy filler and it makes my piss boil.
  18. Tom Cruise in scientology meltdown, get it while it's hot! Not. A. Fucking. Clue.
  19. I'm putting my ethics on you, ruthlessly!

Superb -- and no less creepy.
  20. Mass Effect

Thanks for asking. I've played the game a little more of late and the story is starting to gain pace. I've made my first planetfall and am just about to complete the scientist rescue mission. I've mellowed somewhat in my initial disdain (upgrading from 'thumbs down' to 'thumbs meh'); it's a good story with a limp-wristed art style and deplorable interface. It's fair to say the combat, up to now, is completely forgettable; it's also very easy to get punked by the AI if you don't exit a cutscene into combat standing near some cover. I cannot get my head around why BioWare felt it necessary to include 'magic' in the game, except for the fact they're incapable of deviating from the KotOR mold. And it's this niggling feeling that permeates just about every aspect of the game for me when I'm playing. Yes, the production values are very high; yes, they've worked hard on the story and character development (so far); but I just can't shake the impression that this should have been a Star Wars game with The Force and everything else. Then it would have made a lot more sense and actually been worth the intolerable amount of hype stacked against it. In summary: it's an engaging interactive novel with some annoying combat and an amateurish interface getting in the way.
  21. Mass Effect

Fox won't engage in this any further unless it can make (more) money from it -- and have it on their consummately belligerent terms, i.e. their Shite Desk harassment spot.
  22. Mass Effect

I'm told her next book will deal with the thorny topic of professional suicide... PS: 1,000th post ftw, w00t, etc.
  23. Right, finally hooked up my nano and it's working a-OK with the 360. So I guess the problem just affects current-generation iPods upgraded with the latest firmware. If my father-in-law leaves his new Classic here sometime over the weekend (he seems determined to loose it at the moment, despite rarely taking it out of its box) then I'll try his and see if it's any different.
  24. The Club

No, that's me clicking the email notification and coming in here immediately on your post, assuming you were talking about The Club.
